Texans' C.J. Fiedorowicz: Plans to report for offseason program
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said Wednesday that he doesn't believe Fiedorowicz (concussion) has made a decision on his future in football, but expects the tight end to report for the Texans' offseason program, which begins April 2, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Fiedorowicz said earlier this offseason that he was contemplating retirement as a result of the head injury he suffered Dec. 3, which marked his third concussion of the season. The 26-year-old may be using Organized Team Activities to gauge his interest in continuing his playing career, after which he could make his intentions known to the Texans one way or the other. Given Fiedorowicz's uncertain playing status for 2018, it wouldn't be much of a surprise if the Texans looked to the free-agent market or the draft to strengthen their tight-end corps.

Texans' C.J. Fiedorowicz: Contemplating retirement
Fiedorowicz (concussion) acknowledged Friday that he's considering retirement, Joe Stevenson of the Crystal Lake Northwest Herald reports.
After a breakout 2016 campaign, the 26-year-old tight end inked a three-year, $21.5 million contract last August and entered 2017 with the expectation of filling a prominent role in the Houston passing attack. That never came to fruition, however, as Fiedorowicz sustained a concussion in the preseason and then two more head injuries over five regular-season appearances before he was moved to injured reserve in early December. Though Fiedorowicz said he feels great and has resumed working out, the prospect of sustaining another concussion has left him hesitant to keep his career going. Expect Fiedorowicz to take the next couple months to decide his future before relaying his intentions to the Texans prior to the start of the team's offseason program.

Texans' C.J. Fiedorowicz: NFL future uncertain
Fiedorowicz, who was placed on injured reserve earlier this week, could be forced to retire from the NFL after sustaining his fourth concussion in two seasons, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The 26-year-old was initially placed on injured reserve following the Texans' season opener after suffering a concussion in that contest, only to return mid-season and play four games before sustaining another head injury. While it's unclear if Fiedorowicz wants to stop playing on his own volition, the matter may not be up to him, as sources familiar with his situation have indicated that there's no assurances he'll be able to pass a physical due to his problematic history. Regardless of how things play out for the tight end, the repeated concussions are a troubling development for both he and the Texans, who inked Fiedorowicz to a three-year, $21.5 million contract last summer after he broke out for 54 receptions, 559 yards and four touchdowns in 2016.

It's the third concussion of the season for Fiedorowicz, who was previously on IR-designated to return as a result of a concussion that he suffered in the Texans' season opener. With the tight end also having been concussed during the preseason, it's fair to wonder if he might now be done for the season.

How do you think Fiedorowicz feels about having been injured during Deshaun Watson brief reign? Like a kid who slept through Christmas, maybe? Fiedorowicz is averaging just 8.1 yards per catch since returning from injured reserve and has yet to find the end zone. Houston's passing offense has regressed considerably with turnover-prone Tom Savage at the helm. Though he saw the field for 96 percent of Houston's snaps on Monday, Fiedorowicz can't do much to improve matters.

Texans' C.J. Fiedorowicz: Minor role in Sunday's win
Fiedorowicz caught both of his targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 31-21 win over the Cardinals.
In his second game back from an extended absence due to a concussion, Fiedorowicz experienced a drop in targets from six last week. That's partially due to the Texans making an effort to work the running game more against Arizona, a strategy that reduced targets across the board. And when they did throw, quarterback Tom Savage spread the targets around to seven different receivers. We expect a similar game plan that favors the rush Week 12 against the Ravens, who rank 26th against the run (120.8 yards per game).

Texans' C.J. Fiedorowicz: Targeted six times in return
Fiedorowicz caught two of six targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 33-7 loss to the Rams.
Making his first appearances since the opening week of the season, Fiedorowicz finished third on the team in targets behind DeAndre Hopkins (14) and Bruce Ellington (eight). The current level of quarterback play will make it tough to count on anyone besides Hopkins, but it isn't unrealistic to think that Fiedorowicz could re-establish himself as the second or third option in the passing game, just as he was for much of last season. He draws a Week 11 matchup against an Arizona defense that had been solid against tight ends until Seattle's Jimmy Graham caught a pair of touchdowns Thursday.

The Texans swapped tight ends on IR, giving Fiedorowicz the all-clear to return while placing Ryan Griffin (concussion) on the list. Fiedorowicz has the most pedigree in the TE room, but he may not supersede Stephen Anderson in the pecking order off the bat. For the long run, though, Fiedorowicz is the best bet to click with starting quarterback Tom Savage.

Fiedorowicz has been out of commission since the Week 1 loss to the Jaguars, when he sustained his second concussion since the beginning of training camp. With his symptoms having since subsided, Fiedorowicz was cleared to practice last week and looks like he'll be activated from injured reserve when first eligible in Week 10. Upon returning, Fiedorowicz should immediately displace Ryan Griffin (hip) as the Texans' starting tight end, giving rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson another effective weapon in the passing game to complement wideouts DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller.

Fiedorowicz (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.
Fiedorowicz was one of the three Texans tight ends to sustain concussions in the Week 1 loss to the Jaguars, but his head injury is probably the most concerning of the three, given that he had previously been diagnosed with a concussion earlier in training camp. Given Fiedorowicz's importance as a safety valve and red-zone threat for one of the league's weaker passing attacks, it's possible that the Texans will designate him as one of two players eligible to return from injured reserve, which would allow him to play again by midseason. In order for that to materialize, however, Fiedorowicz will need to pass through all steps of the NFL's concussion protocol, which won't be a given due to his history and the volatile recovery timetables of head injuries in general. Ryan Griffin is the leading candidate to fill in for Fiedorowicz as the Texans' starting tight end, but he's unlikely to suit up Week 2 against the Bengals while he recovers from a concussion of his own.
