After spending his first four seasons in Arizona, Mauro returned to the desert last season, but he only appeared in three games, registering five tackles and one sack. The 30-year-old will now look elsewhere to find a new opportunity for the 2021 campaign.

Josh Mauro: Waived with injury settlement
The Cardinals waived Mauro (hamstring) off injured reserve Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Mauro signed a contract with the Cardinals in October of 2021 and, after three games, he landed on IR with a hamstring injury. Zach Allen likely will continue playing most of the defensive snaps for the Cardinals with Mauro off the team.

Mauro has spent three weeks on IR, and he'll start preparing to be activated. The Cardinals have a 21-day window to activate the 29-year-old defensive end. If he's able to return this week against the Eagles, Mauro could handle a substantial workload because Jordan Phillips (hamstring) has already been ruled out.

Mauro signed a contract with the Cardinals on Wednesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
The 29-year-old was suspended for the first five games of the season, but he was let go by the Jaguars last week before appearing in a game. He then signed with Jacksonville's practice squad. Mauro provides depth on the defensive line with Zach Allen (ankle) moved to injured reserve and Jordan Phillips (hamstring) also less than 100 percent.

Mauro recently completed his five-game suspension for violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, but he was promptly placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list five days later. After starting seven times while recording 19 tackles for the Raiders in 2019, Mauro finds himself back on the free-agent market without having played a single game for Jacksonville.

The Jaguars signed Mauro on Aug. 11 and were reportedly aware that the defensive end would be suspended. The 29-year-old was expected to play a rotational role anyway since Josh Allen and Yannick Ngakoue appear locked into starting roles while rookie first-round pick K'Lavon Chaisson could battle for consistent reps as well. Mauro is eligible to return Week 6 against the Lions.
