McGee was signed by the Panthers on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
McGee amassed 116 tackles (75 solo) and four sacks throughout his first six years in the NFL, spending four seasons with the Raiders and two in Washington before being released by the Redskins in March. He'll provide depth at nose tackle for the Panthers with veteran Dontari Poe headed for surgery on his torn quadriceps.

Stacy McGee: Cut loose by Washington
McGee was released by the Redskins on Wednesday, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports.
McGee missed half of the past season while recovering from a groin injury, appearing in only eight games and racking up nine tackles (seven solo) and one sack. Though McGee ended the season healthy, the Redskins will cut the 29-year-old with the aim of freeing up cap space. McGee, who inked a five-year, $25 million deal with Washington in March 2017, will likely have to settle for much less favorable contract terms on the open market this time around.

Redskins' Stacy McGee: Returns from PUP list
McGee (groin) was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.
McGee landed on the PUP list because of offseason groin surgery and returned to practice in mid-October. The 28-year-old had a career-high 44 tackles (24 solo) in 2017 and should re-enter the Redskins' defensive line rotation, with fellow nose tackles Caleb Brantley and Tim Settle seeing eight defensive snaps combined in the last four games behind starter Da'Ron Payne.

Redskins' Stacy McGee: Back at practice Wednesday
McGee (groin) returned to practice Wednesday, Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post reports.
McGee spent the first six weeks on the PUP list, but he has 21 days to be activated from the list at this point. Given that he practiced Wednesday, there's a good chance McGee will be available in short order. After racking up a career-high 44 tackles (24 solo) last season, McGee should rejoin the defensive line rotation when healthy.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Wednesday that McGee is recovering from groin surgery and may not be ready for training camp, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
McGee signed a five-year, $25 million contract with Washington last offseason, then had 44 tackles but no sacks in 16 games (10 starts) in 2017. Even if he moves past the groin injury, he'll have a hard time matching last year's total of 432 snaps. The Redskins used their last two first-round picks on defensive linemen, snagging Jonathan Allen (2017) and Da'Ron Payne (2018).

McGee totaled 44 tackles (24 solo) in 16 games for Washington in 2017.
McGee signed a five-year contract in March of 2017 and did not record a sack, but the 44 tackles doubled his previous career high. The 27-year-old has only three career sacks in five seasons so a similar season could be in store for 2018 with Ziggy Hood also slated to return to the rotation at nose tackle.

McGee signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the Redskins on Thursday, MIke Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
McGee had a career high 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles while playing in just nine games with Oakland last season. He'll slot in at nose tackle alongside Phil Taylor in Washington.
