Player Outlook
Following a promising rookie campaign, Bobby Miller was slated to be a key piece of the Dodgers' rotation in 2024, but after a dominant six-inning, 11-strikeout, scoreless first start, he took a big step back and ended the year in the minors. Injuries played a part in his rough campaign, as the right-hander missed over two months early with a shoulder issue and later dealt with a minor knee injury. All told, the right-hander posted an ugly 8.52 ERA and 1.77 WHIP while serving up 17 homers over just 56 innings. Miller's Statcast numbers tell the story of a hurler who didn't fool many hitters and was continuously pounded -- while his 97.5 mph average fastball velocity ranked in the 94th percentile among pitchers, he ranked in just the 27th percentile with a 20.2% strikeout rate and in the first percentile in allowing a 91.5 mph average exit velocity. Miller looked so great as a rookie that Los Angeles is likely to give him a chance to turn things around, but he may have to compete with Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May, Landon Knack and possibly others for the sixth spot in what projects to be a deep Dodgers rotation.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Optioned back to OKC

The Dodgers optioned Miller to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. The move comes one day after another poor start in which Miller surrendered four runs on seven hits and one walk across two innings against the Marlins. He's managed an ugly 8.52 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in a horribly disappointing 2024 campaign. The Dodgers have not yet announced a replacement for Miller's spot in the rotation.

It was another rough outing for Miller -- the right-hander's now allowed 17 runs across 11.1 innings in his last three starts. His ERA is up to an ugly 8.52 on the year with a 1.77 WHIP and 52:30 K:BB across 56 innings. Miller would currently line up for a home start next week against the Padres, should the Dodgers elect to give him another look in the rotation.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Another ugly outing

Miller did not factor into the decision in a win over the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two. Miller got knocked around early, issuing back-to-back walks, followed by back-to-back singles with two outs in the first inning. He would surrender two runs in the frame before then going on to give up two long balls between the third and fifth innings. It marked Miller's second consecutive start in which he allowed at least six runs, and he's now given up multiple home runs in five of his last six outings. The right-hander's ERA now sits at an atrocious 8.17 for the season.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Yields three homers

Miller (2-4) allowed seven runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight over five innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Angels. Miller yielded a season-high three home runs, including Mickey Moniak's three-run blast in the first inning. This was the worst of Miller's four starts since he returned to the majors in mid-August. He's now at a 7.79 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 48:25 K:BB over 49.2 innings through 11 starts this year. He is reportedly pitching through a left knee issue, but it's not expected to cost him time. He's tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Cubs, though Miller could lose his spot on the 28-man roster to Yoshinobu Yamamoto (triceps) when the latter makes his return to action Tuesday.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Managing knee issue

Miller revealed after Thursday's win over the Orioles that he's been dealing with a left knee issue, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Miller has been dealing with the injury for a bit and tweaked the knee during the second inning Thursday, but he remained in the game and got through five frames while allowing three runs. The righty said it's something he can manage for the rest of the season, so it doesn't appear at this point that he's in danger of missing any time. Miller holds a 5.74 ERA and 13:4 K:BB over 15.2 innings covering three starts since rejoining the Dodgers' rotation earlier this month.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Receiving another start

Miller is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Rays at Dodger Stadium. At least while Tyler Glasnow (elbow) and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (tricep) are on the injured list, the Dodgers are opting to keep Miller in the rotation as their No. 5 starter over Justin Wrobleski, who was optioned to Triple-A over the weekend. Miller returned from Triple-A to make his first start for the Dodgers since July 9 this past Saturday, when he took a loss to the Cardinals. The command and control problems that plagued Miller when he was up with the Dodgers earlier this season reared their head again in St. Louis, as he was charged with four earned runs on eight hits and one walk while also throwing four wild pitches. Even with a relatively favorable matchup on tap against the Rays at home, Miller's recent form makes it difficult to stream him with much confidence.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Officially recalled

Miller was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to his start Saturday against the Cardinals. Miller hasn't necessarily been pitching well at Triple-A, logging a 5.54 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and as many walks (11) as strikeouts in 13 innings over his last three starts. The Dodgers are searching for answers at the back of the rotation, so if he pitches well, he'll stick up, but some more shaky outings could lead to Miller heading back to Triple-A.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Making start at Triple-A on Friday

Miller (adductor) will start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday versus Round Rock, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Miller was scratched from his last scheduled outing for Oklahoma City due to adductor tightness, but he will wind up missing just one turn through the Triple-A rotation. The right-hander allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks over just 3.2 innings in his last start for Oklahoma City on July 27. Miller will probably need to string together at least a couple solid outings in order for the Dodgers to consider calling him up and reinserting him into their rotation.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Scratched from start Friday

Miller was scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday due adductor tightness, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Miller felt tightness following his bullpen session earlier in the week. After struggling in the majors this season, Miller was optioned to Oklahoma City on July 10. He's been inconsistent since being sent down to the minors, and in his last outing July 27, he walked away with the no-decision after allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out one across 3.2 innings.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Hanging around Triple-A

Miller is expected to make at least one more start with Triple-A Oklahoma City, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Miller was optioned to Triple-A on July 10 after struggling to a 9.87 ERA over four starts following a two-month stretch on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The 25-year-old threw five scoreless innings against Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out four batters. It's unclear how long Miller could remain in the minors, but manager Dave Roberts said Monday that Miller would return to the major-league roster at some point. "I don't know when, but we are counting on it," Roberts said.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Sent out to minors

The Dodgers optioned Miller to the minors Wednesday. The team didn't specifically relay that Miller will be headed to Triple-A Oklahoma City, as the right-hander could instead be headed to the Dodgers' facility in Arizona to work on some mechanical adjustments. His demotion comes after he was lit up for nine earned runs in four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies, bringing his ERA up to 9.87 over his four starts since he returned to the rotation June 19 following a two-plus-month stay on the injured list due to shoulder inflammation. The Dodgers will need a replacement in the rotation for Miller in Sunday's game in Detroit, but the right-hander might be a candidate to rejoin the big club shortly after the All-Star break. The possibility exists, however, that the Dodgers will have Miller spend some extended time in the minors to iron out the kinks, as the team should get some reinforcements to its rotation after the break that may lessen the need to bring back the struggling right-hander. Tyler Glasnow (back) and Walker Buehler (hip) could both be ready to return from the IL immediately after the break, while Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) is in the midst of a rehab assignment and could be ready to come off the 60-day IL by the end of July or the first week of August.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Goes five innings in no-decision

Miller allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over five innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Miller was responsible for a game-tying two-run home run by Christian Walker in the fourth inning. This was Miller's third start since he returned from shoulder inflammation, but he's given up 10 runs over 13.1 innings with a 7:9 K:BB across those outings. Overall, he's at a 6.12 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 25:15 K:BB through 25 innings over six starts this season. Miller is still likely trying to find a rhythm after a two-month absence. With his next start projected to be against either Milwaukee or Philadelphia -- the other two National League division leaders besides the Dodgers -- fantasy managers may want to take a wait-and-see approach with Miller in the short term.

  • Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Reinstated for Wednesday's start

The Dodgers activated Miller (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Wednesday against the Rockies, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Timesreports. The right-hander has been sidelined by shoulder inflammation since mid-April, but he's ready to rejoin the big-league rotation after a four-start rehab assignment in the minors. Miller posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 18:6 K:BB over 11.2 frames in three outings prior to the injury. Walker Buehler (hip) is headed to the injured list in a corresponding move.
