Newhook scored a goal in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Rangers. Newhook has been solid lately with three goals and five assists over his last eight games, though he's had three multi-point efforts in that span. The 23-year-old has centered the second line for much of the campaign when healthy, and he's now reached the 30-point mark for the third year in a row. He has 13 goals, 17 assists, 75 shots on net and a minus-14 rating over 50 appearances.... See More ... See Less

Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Another two helpers
Newhook recorded two assists, one shot and two penalty minutes in Thursday's 7-4 loss to the Lightning. Newhook's garnered four assists over the last two games, leaving him with 29 points through 48 contests. The 2019 first-round pick of the Avalanche never took off in Colorado, but he's been more productive in Montreal. Newhook may have had a breakout campaign in 2023-24 had he not missed 27 games due to an ankle injury.... See More ... See Less -

Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Logs assist in win
Newhook had an assist, three shots on net and one block in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Colorado. Newhook's shot from the point led to Joel Armia's game-winning tally late in the first period. Newhook has three points over the last two games and is up to 25 through 44 contests. He's within shouting distance of the career-high 33 points (71 games) he had in 2021-22, when Newhook was a member of the Avalanche.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Scores twice in win
Newhook scored two goals in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Kraken. The pair of tallies bring Newhook to 12 goals and 24 points through 43 games this season. At 0.55 points per game, he's posting the best points-per-game rate of his career, even if the counting totals aren't quite at his career-best marks. Newhook's also taking fewer shots per game than he has in any other season when he was an NHL regular, and the 23-year-old forward's production in 2023-24 is bolstered by a 19.0 shooting percentage, which will be tough to sustain over a larger sample of games.... Newhook scored a power-play goal on one shot in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Maple Leafs. He added a blocked shot and two hits to his line. Newhook beat Ilya Samsonov with a snap shot early in the third for his 10th goal of the season. He has points in five of the last six contests, including two power-play tallies. Newhook, who has a 17.2 shooting percentage over 37 games, is closing in on the career-high 14 goals he scored over 82 tilts last season with Colorado.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Helps on lone goal
Newhook had an assist, two shots on net and four penalty minutes in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes. Newhook broke up a Carolina clearing attempt and fed Joshua Roy for the Canadiens' lone goal. It was the fourth point in the last five games for Newhook, who has 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) through 36 games. Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Garners first point since return
Newhook had a power-play assist, two shots on net and two blocks over 20:37 of ice time in Tuesday's 5-0 win over Anaheim. As part of some chaos in front of netminder Lukas Dostal, Newhook controlled a rebound that eventually led to a Nick Suzuki tally. It was Newhook's first point in three games since returning from a 27-game absence due to a high-ankle sprain. At even strength, Newhook has skated on the third line since his return, but he was immediately put back on the top power-play unit. The fourth-year forward has 14 points (four on the power play) over 26 games this year.... See More ... See Less -

Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Expected back Saturday
Newhook (ankle) is expected to play Saturday afternoon against Dallas, Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette reports. The game is scheduled for 1:00 pm ET. Newhook, who hasn't played since Nov. 30, worked with the first power-play unit during Friday's practice. Prior to the injury, he occupied a top-six role that included stints on the wing alongside Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield. It looks like Juraj Slafkovsky has achieved a level of comfort on the top line, so Newhook could return to the second line. The 23-year-old Newhook got off to a promising start with Montreal, posting 13 points over the first 23 games. He also had six points over seven outings before getting injured.... See More ... Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Leaves game Thursday
Newhook (lower body) was unable to finish Thursday's game versus the Panthers, Marc Dumont of Montreal Hockey Now reports. Newhook left the game on one leg after sustaining the injury. The 22-year-old will be evaluated further Friday, leaving his status in doubt for Saturday's game against the Red Wings. Michael Pezzetta would likely join the lineup if Newhook can't play against Detroit.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Scores in road win
Newhook scored a goal on two shots and had two hits over 14:52 of ice time in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Blue Jackets. Newhook helped close out Montreal's five-game road trip with a win when he took advantage of a favorable deflection off a Kaiden Guhle shot to beat Elvis Merzlikins glove side in the first period. It was the third goal on the trip for Newhook, who is enjoying life on the top line with Nick Suzuki and Brendan Gallagher. A 2019 first-round draft pick of the Avalanche, Newhook is getting more ice time for his new club -- three more minutes per game than he averaged in Colorado -- and he's headed for his most productive season. Newhook has seven goals, 13 points and 31 shots (22.6 shooting percentage) while averaging 16:38 of ice time through 22 games.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Alex Newhook: First goal in 13

Newhook came to Montreal with much promise and high hopes, but he has struggled to find his stride. The goal was his first in 13 games, and he has just four goals and five assists in 17 games. Newhook may develop into a top-six player, but right now, he's unlikely to score more than 40-45 points.... See More ... See Less -

Newhook had a power-play assist, one shot on goal and one blocked shot over 17:22 of ice time in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Blues. Newhook leads Montreal with three goals through three games.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Scores twice in Montreal debut
Newhook scored a pair of goals in Wednesday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Maple Leafs. Newhook extended Montreal's lead to 2-0 early in the second period, deflecting a rebound past Ilya Samsonov, before adding a second goal in the third that put the Canadiens ahead 4-3. It's an encouraging debut for the 22-year-old Newhook, who was traded to Montreal after tallying 14 goals and 30 points in 82 games last season with Colorado. He'll open the season on the second line alongside Kirby Dach and Juraj Slafkovsky while also seeing time on the Canadiens' second power-play unit.... See More ... See Less -
