  • Canadiens' Brandon Gignac: On waivers

Gignac was put on waivers Thursday, per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports. Gignac has a goal, seven shots, four hits and seven blocks in seven games with Montreal this season. He also had 14 goals and 42 points in 43 outings with AHL Laval.

  • Canadiens' Brandon Gignac: Scores first NHL goal

Gignac scored a goal on two shots over 10:50 of ice time in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Ducks. Gignac pocketed his first NHL goal in his fourth career game, finishing off a two-on-zero break with defenseman Kaiden Guhle for the Canadiens' final tally. Gignac had been getting minutes on the second line and second power-play unit immediately upon his promotion from AHL Laval, but Montreal head coach Martin St. Louis has since moved him to the fourth line and off the power play. Perhaps those moves are designed to take pressure of Gignac, who was a productive scorer with the Rocket. He's expected to finish the season in Montreal, and in time, as Gignac becomes acclimated to NHL play, he could earn a larger role.

  • Canadiens' Brandon Gignac: Makes debut

Gignac had two blocks over 14:54 of ice time in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Capitals. Gignac made his NHL debut after signing a two-way contract with the Canadiens on Sunday. The 26-year-old centered the second line, flanked by Josh Anderson and Joel Armia, and won six of 12 draws. Gignac was a scoring machine at AHL Laval, logging 14 goals and 28 assists over 43 games with the Rocket. The Sean Monahan trade to Winnipeg over the All-Star break opened a spot in the top six that Gignac could fill down the stretch. The fact that he's no longer on an AHL-only contract suggests he may finish out the season with the parent club.

  • Canadiens' Brandon Gignac: Inks two-year contract

Gignac signed a two-year, two-way contract with Montreal on Sunday. Gignac has produced 14 goals and 42 points in 43 contests for AHL Laval this season. The 26-year-old forward has only one game of NHL experience, which came as a member of the Devils during the 2018-19 campaign.

  • Canadiens' Brandon Gignac: Sent down Tuesday

Gignac was reassigned to AHL Laval on Tuesday. Gignac was a long shot to make the Canadiens' Opening Night roster. The 24-year-old will instead spend much of the year with Laval.

  • Brandon Gignac: Unqualified by New Jersey

Gignac did not receive a qualifying offer from the Devils on Monday and will become a free agent. Gignac hasn't seen any NHL action since recording a minus-2 rating in his debut during the 2018-19 season. He spent most of last season with ECHL Jacksonville, tallying 10 goals and 27 points in 35 games. He shouldn't garner much interest at the NHL level this offseason.

  • Devils' Brandon Gignac: Waived by New Jersey

Gignac was waived by the Devils on Monday, Corey Masisak of The Athletic reports. Gignac put up 36 points in 66 games with AHL Binghamton in 2018-19, but he regressed last season, totaling just 14 points in 36 games. The 2016 third-round pick will first need to bounce back at the AHL level to have a realistic chance of cracking the NHL lineup at any point in 2021.
