  • Jets' Zach Wilson: May stay if no trade happens

Jets chairman Woody Johnson suggested Monday that if the Jets don't trade Wilson, they intend to keep the QB, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. That said, Cimini notes that the Jets remain motivated to deal Wilson, who last month was granted permission to speak to other teams about a possible trade. Given that Tyrod Taylor was recently signed by the Jets to back up Aaron Rodgers (Achilles), a change of scenery would no doubt benefit Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In three seasons since then, the 24-year-old has compiled a 12-21 record as a starter and thrown more interceptions (25) than TD passes (23).

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Gets green light to pursue trade

General manager Joe Douglas said Wednesday that Wilson (concussion) has been given permission to seek a trade, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Wilson ended the 2023 season on injured reserve while recovering from concussion symptoms, which cost him the Jets' final three games. The 2021 second overall pick's time being up in New York almost looks inevitable at this point, especially after he was moved back and forth between the starting lineup and bench throughout the 2023 campaign. If a trade partner doesn't emerge for Wilson, the Jets could opt to waive him rather than keeping him in the fold at a cap hit of $11.18 million for 2024. In any case, the Jets seem likely to prioritize an upgrade at the backup quarterback spot behind Aaron Rodgers (Achilles), with Trevor Siemian and Brett Rypien being the other signal-callers on the roster.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Offseason trade expected

The Jets will try to trade Wilson (concussion) in the offseason, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. This news comes as no surprise, though Rapoport's reporting adds more legitimacy to previous rumblings that Wilson's tenure with the Jets has come to a close. Wilson will first have to recover from the concussion that kept him out of New York's final three games before he can be moved. If the Jets fail to find a trade partner for the former second overall pick, they could release Wilson to clear space on the roster for a veteran backup to 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers, who is working his way back from a torn Achilles.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Moves to injured reserve

Wilson (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Saturday. It's an uneventful end to what could realistically be Wilson's final season with the Jets. The third-year quarterback missed the final three games of the 2023 campaign due to a concussion, but given how Wilson was yo-yo'd in and out of the starting lineup since Week 11, it's fair to question if the team had whittled away the 24-year-old's confidence to the point of no return. With Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) set to start next season, it's unclear what the future holds for Wilson in a Jets uniform.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Time could be up in New York

Wilson -- who remains in concussion protocol and won't play in Sunday's season finale against the Patriots -- may not return to the Jets in 2024, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. After struggling for his first two seasons as the Jets' primary starting quarterback, Wilson was demoted to a backup role behind Aaron Rodgers heading into his third NFL season. Rodgers tore his Achilles' tendon four plays into the season, thus thrusting Wilson back into a starting role. The second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has shown flashes of brilliance, but he hasn't sustained strong play while catching some bad breaks along the way. After posting his best game of the season with 301 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 14 win over the Texans, Wilson was concussed in the first half of the team's Week 15 loss to Miami, and that may mark his final appearance with the Jets. With Rodgers set to return in 2024, the Jets will likely opt for a more reliable backup to their 40-year-old starter.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Won't play in season finale

Head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that Wilson hasn't cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and won't play in Sunday's season finale against the Patriots, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports. With Wilson unavailable for Week 18, Trevor Siemian will make a third straight start under center. Meanwhile, Saleh was non-committal Wednesday regarding Wilson's future with the franchise, noting that he believed that the signal-caller has a long career ahead of him, but whether that will be with the Jets or elsewhere remains to be seen. In any case, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft finishes up his 2023 campaign with 2,271 passing yards and 211 rushing yards to go along with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in 12 games.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Could miss multiple games

Wilson (concussion), who has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Commanders, is unlikely to be available for the Jets' Thursday night game against the Browns in Week 17, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. "It does make it a challenge that it's a Thursday game," head coach Robert Saleh said Friday, regarding Wilson's potential Week 17 availability. "He's got to clear some hurdles over the weekend. It's going to be one of those where we'll see." Due to the short turnaround for Week 17, Wilson will have just four additional days to clear the five-step concussion protocol after Sunday's game. Trevor Siemian will make his first start of the season Sunday against the Commanders. Siemian may be likely to start again Thursday regardless of how he fares against Washington, though Brett Rypien could also be an option after signing with the Jets earlier in December.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Won't face Commanders

Wilson (concussion) won't play Sunday against the Commanders. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, with Wilson ruled out for Week 16, Trevor Siemian will pick up his first start as a member of the Jets. Wilson will now target a potential return to action next Thursday against the Browns in Week 17.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Remains in protocol Wednesday

Wilson (concussion) won't practice Wednesday and remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports. Head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that the Jets are "not closing the door yet" on Wilson being available for Sunday's game against the Commanders, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. If he's able to clear the five-step protocol, Wilson would be in line to start against Washington. Should Wilson sit out the Week 16 contest, however, Trevor Siemian -- who replaced the third-year signal-caller in the first half of a 30-0 loss to Miami last Sunday -- would make his first start of 2023.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Remains starter, if cleared

Coach Robert Saleh indicated Monday that if Wilson is able to clear the NFL's concussion protocol ahead of Sunday's game against the Commanders, he'll remain the Jets' starting QB, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. The report adds that if Wilson is unable to fully advance through the protocol, Trevor Siemian would be in line to start in his place. Meanwhile, per Eric Allen of the Jets' official site, the team has until Wednesday to decide whether to activate Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) from IR. It remains to be seen how the Jets -- who have been eliminated from playoff contention -- will approach the veteran QB's situation, but at this stage Cimini suggests that it seems unlikely Rodgers will see action over New York's final three games.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Turns in full practice Wednesday

Wilson (knee) was a full practice participant Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, head coach Robert Saleh relayed Monday that Wilson was dealing with a minor knee issue, but the Jets never had much concern that the injury would affect his status for a Week 15 matchup with the Dolphins. After a two-game benching, Wilson stepped back into the starting role this past weekend against the Texans and turned in one of the best performances of his career. He completed 27 of 36 pass attempts for 301 yards and two touchdowns and carried three times for 12 yards in the Jets' 30-6 win en route to taking home AFC Player of the Week honors.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Benched Sunday, Week 12 starter TBD

Head coach Robert Saleh said after Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Bills that he's undecided on whether Wilson will start Friday in the Jets' Week 12 game against the Dolphins, according to Fox Sports. Wilson was benched in the second half of Sunday's game after completing seven of 15 passes for 81 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed four times for 15 yards. Wilson was replaced by Tim Boyle, who completed seven of 14 passes for 33 yards and one interception in relief. The Jets have lost three consecutive games following a three-game winning streak to fall to 4-6. Boyle's poor play after replacing Wilson may have opened the door for Wilson to remain under center at home against Miami in Week 12, though an announcement on an official starter is likely to come within the next few days.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Will remain starting QB

Coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson will remain the Jets' starting quarterback, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Saleh reiterated that offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett also will continue to call the offensive plays. Wilson has been dreadful this season, checking in at 31st in completion percentage (59.8 percent), 30th in touchdown throws (five) and 29th in yards per attempt (6.1), while the Jets have been downright bad on third downs. The Jets don't seem willing to give Tim Boyle any starts and are going to keep riding it out with Wilson despite just one offensive touchdown over their last three games.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: No TDs in ugly loss

Wilson completed 33 of 49 passes for 263 yards without a touchdown or interception in Monday's 27-6 loss to the Chargers. He added two rushing attempts for seven yards and fumbled three times, losing two. Wilson struggled but didn't get any help from the rest of New York's offense, which has produced just three touchdowns in the last four games. He was sacked eight times behind an unsuccessfully rejiggered offensive line, and numerous drops and penalties didn't help matters. While a significant chunk of Wilson's yardage came with the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, he should have at least had a late touchdown, but C.J. Uzomah dropped a ball that hit him in the chest in the end zone. Coming off this hollow season high in passing yards, Wilson will bring a 5:5 TD:INT into a Week 10 road game in Vegas.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Leads late comeback in OT win

Wilson completed 17 of 36 passes for 240 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 13-10 overtime win over the Giants. He added four rushing attempts for 25 yards and lost two fumbles. Wilson fumbled on the opening drive, leading to a Giants field goal, and after the Jets lost their top two centers to injuries in the first half, his first exchange with third-stringer Xavier Newman led to a fumbled snap. In between those two Wilson fumbles, Breece Hall turned a checkdown into a 50-yard touchdown. The Jets started 0-for-12 on third down before Wilson finally converted a 3rd-and-11 with a 17-yard run just before the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter, but things looked bleak after that possession ended on a fourth-down sack. Wilson came alive after the Jets got the ball back with 24 seconds left in regulation, completing back-to-back 29-yard passes to set up a game-tying field goal before helping draw a 30-yard pass interference penalty to set up the game-winning field goal in overtime. It hasn't been pretty, but Wilson and the Jets have won three straight to improve to 4-3 heading into a Week 9 MNF visit from the Chargers.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Manages team to win over Philly

Wilson completed 19 of 33 passes for 186 yards without a touchdown or turnover in Sunday's 20-14 win over the Eagles. He added four rushes for 15 yards and threw a two-point conversion. Wilson came up short of 200 passing yards for the fifth time in six games, but he led New York to a second consecutive victory by avoiding costly turnovers while Jalen Hurts threw three interceptions. Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) was seen throwing a football and walking without crutches, but his return likely remains months away, and Wilson is locked in as the Jets' starter in Rodgers' absence. Wilson will try for a third consecutive win in Week 8 against the Giants after a Week 7 bye.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Sleeper QBs

I don't want to chase Wilson's quality performance against the Chiefs in Week 4, but it was easily the best he looked all season when he passed for 245 yards and two touchdowns on 28-of-39 completions, along with 14 rushing yards. He should build off that outing in Week 5 against the Broncos, who allow the most Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. All four quarterbacks against Denver this season (Jimmy Garoppolo, Sam Howell, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Fields) have each passed for at least two touchdowns, and Tagovailoa and Fields each had more than 300 passing yards and four touchdowns in the past two games. Wilson will hopefully follow suit, and I love the narrative of Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett facing his former team, especially after current Broncos coach Sean Payton took shots at Hackett this offseason.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Tough day in Dallas

Wilson completed 12 of 27 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions in Sunday's 30-10 loss to the Cowboys. He added 36 rushing yards on five carries. The third-year QB actually led the Jets in rushing, as the Dallas defense put together another dominant performance. Wilson's numbers in the first half were fairly solid, highlighted by a 68-yard TD pass to Garrett Wilson (undisclosed) in the second quarter, but all three of his INTs came on New York's final three drives as he tried to make something happen to bring his team back from a 17-point deficit. Wilson faces another potentially tough matchup in Week 3 against the Patriots.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Named starting QB

Coach Robert Saleh reiterated Tuesday that Wilson is the Jets' starting quarterback after the team confirmed Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles during Monday's overtime win versus the Bills, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. After taking over for Rodgers on New York's fifth offensive snap of the game, Wilson played the final 50 en route to 140 yards passing, one touchdown and one interception. He also had four carries for six yards and was sacked twice for minus-13 yards. Saleh noted that the Jets will add another quarterback at some point to a room that currently includes only practice-squad member Tim Boyle behind Wilson.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Set to start rest of season

Coach Robert Saleh said Wilson will "be the guy" under center for the Jets for the rest of the season after Aaron Rodgers suffered what the team believes is an Achilles injury during Monday's 22-16 overtime win versus the Bills, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Wilson stepped in for Rodgers on the Jets' fifth offensive play after the former Packer left the game. Wilson had his usual struggles, completing 14 of 21 passes for 140 yards, one touchdown and one interception, rushing four times for six yards and getting sacked twice for a loss of 13 yards. His TD to Garrett Wilson with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter tied the contest at 13-13, although the receiver bailed out his quarterback with a highlight-reel effort to reel in a poor throw, and the offense didn't need to take a snap in overtime due to Xavier Gipson's 65-yard punt return for the game-winning score. Moving forward, Wilson the QB will have plenty of skill-position talent to work with in addition to Wilson the wideout, including Breece Hall, Dalvin Cook and Allen Lazard.
