Brandon Zylstra: Back on practice squad
Zylstra reverted to the Lions' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Zylstra was elevated to the active roster prior to Sunday's Week 9 win over Green Bay but didn't log any offensive snaps. He did tally five snaps on special teams and returned one kick for 19 yards. Zylstra was also active in Week 7 but didn't see any offensive snaps in that game, either.

Lions' Brandon Zylstra: Elevated to active roster
Zylstra was elevated from the Lions' practice squad to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game against Miami.
This marks the second consecutive game that Zylstra has been promoted to Detroit's active roster, as the team continues to battle a number of injuries in its wide receiver corps. He played exclusively on special teams in Week 8, and that could the case once again against the Dolphins.

Lions' Brandon Zylstra: Elevated from practice squad
Zylstra was elevated from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Saturday.
This will be Zylstra's first time on the active roster this season, but he has considerable NFL experience, playing in 53 games over the past four seasons. His best campaign came last year with Carolina, as he compiled 18 catches on 25 targets for 250 yards and a touchdown. Detroit has a need for wide receiver depth with DJ Chark (ankle) moved to IR on Saturday and Josh Reynolds questionable for Sunday's game in Dallas due to a knee injury.

Brandon Zylstra: Joins Lions
Zylstra was signed to Detroit's practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Zylstra will now join his brother Shane on the team's practice squad. The 29-year-old has spent the last three seasons with the Panthers and was a member of their final roster cuts at the end of training camp.

Zylstra was released by the Panthers on Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Zylstra re-signed with the Panthers in March, but he will hit the open market after failing to make the team's final roster. The wide receiver played 13 games with the Panthers in 2021, catching 18 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown. The 29-year-old will likely sign with another squad in need of wide receiver depth.

Zylstra briefly hit the open market but will return to Carolina for the fourth consecutive season. The 28-year-old set career highs across the board in 2021 with 18 receptions for 250 yards and one touchdown in 13 games.

Panthers' Brandon Zylstra: No yards Sunday
Zylstra didn't catch either of his two targets in Sunday's 41-17 loss to the Buccaneers. He also attempted an incomplete pass.
Zylstra played just three snaps after returning from the reserve/COVID-19 list last week, but with Terrace Marshall (foot) sidelined Sunday, Zylstra reclaimed Carolina's No. 3 wideout role and featured on nearly 70 percent of the offensive plays. Despite his increased involvement, Zylstra didn't manage any yards on the day. As a result, he ends this season with 18 catches on 25 targets for 250 yards and a touchdown in 14 appearances. Even though they came within one of the league's worst passing attacks, those totals mark career bests for the 28-year-old. As an unrestricted free agent this offseason, it'll be interesting to see how much interest Zylstra garners as a depth wideout and special teamer.

Panthers' Brandon Zylstra: Tiny offensive role
Zylstra played just three offensive snaps and was not targeted in Sunday's 18-10 loss to the Saints.
Zylstra returned from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday, but his time out prevented him from seeing the field much offensively. In contrast, rookie wideout Terrace Marshall played 44 snaps, catching two passes for 16 yards. Although Carolina's underwhelming offense restricts the upside of its third receiver, it'll be interesting to see whether Marshall or Zylstra gets more run Week 18 versus the Buccaneers.

Panthers' Brandon Zylstra: Comes off COVID-19 list
Carolina activated Zylstra (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
Zylstra looks like he'll be available to play Sunday in New Orleans after he was deactivated ahead of last week's eventual loss to Tampa Bay upon testing positive for the virus hours before kickoff. Assuming Zylstra is good to go from a conditioning standpoint, he could step back in as the Panthers' No. 3 receiver, a role he held prior to going on the COVID-19 list. The job wasn't especially fruitful for fantasy purposes, with Zylstra recording no more than four receptions in any of his past three appearances despite playing more than half of the Panthers' snaps on offense each time out.

Panthers' Brandon Zylstra: Tests positive for virus
Zylstra's placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday was the result of a positive test of the virus, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The 28-year-old receiver was added to the list less than two hours prior to the Panthers' 32-6 loss to the Buccaneers. Assuming he's vaccinated, Zylstra will have a chance to be available for the Panthers' Week 17 game against the Saints if he can clear the necessary COVID-19 return-to-play protocols, but the wideout will almost certainly miss practice time leading up to the contest. Terrace Marshall served as Carolina's No. 3 receiver Week 16 while Zylstra was out, finishing with one catch for six yards across his 39 offensive snaps.

Until Zylstra clears the NFL's COVID-19-related protocols, Terrace Marshall is a candidate for increased snaps. To add depth at the wideout position in advance of the Week 16 contest, Carolina elevated wide receiver C.J. Saunders from the practice squad.

Zylstra once again served as Carolina's No. 3 receiver, playing over 70 percent of the offensive snaps. However, with kicker Zane Gonzalez (quadriceps) getting injured pre-game, Zylstra was also trusted with kickoff duties. Although he didn't net many fantasy points overall, Zylstra proved his worth to the Panthers with his flexibility Sunday.

Zylstra caught four of five targets for 45 yards in Sunday's 29-21 loss to the Falcons.
Zylstra played over half of Carolina's offensive snaps, remaining more involved than teammate Terrace Marshall despite the rookie's return Sunday. Furthermore, while Marshall wasn't even targeted, Zylstra trailed only top wideouts DJ Moore and Robby Anderson in receptions and targets. At this stage, the veteran Zylstra has seemingly claimed the Panthers' third receiver job, helping his value even if his upside remains very modest.

Zylstra caught one of two targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 33-10 loss to the Dolphins.
Zylstra placed second on Carolina in receiving yards, evidence of the team's struggles through the air Sunday. Interestingly, the veteran played over half of the offensive snaps while rookie Terrace Marshall was a healthy scratch. That situation is something to monitor once the Panthers return from their Week 13 bye, as Zylstra's stock could improve slightly should he remain the preferred slot option.

Zylstra's reception gave him a catch in back-to-back games for the first time this season. Although he's hauled in 11 of his 12 targets thus far, Zylstra's 164 yards and one score through eight appearances evidences his limited fantasy value.
