Player Outlook
All Bennett did the past two years is throw for 6,990 yards and 56 touchdowns while leading the Georgia Bulldogs to back-to-back national championships. His reward was being drafted by the Rams in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, presumably to back up Matthew Stafford, drafted No. 1 overall in 2009 out of Georgia. Bennett will need an injury to see the field this year, but Stafford is 35 and has struggled with a variety of injuries in the past year. If Bennett gets a chance, his athleticism and maturity could make him a low-end starter in two-QB leagues. For now, he should only be rostered in deeper Dynasty leagues and he shouldn't go before Round 3 in a rookie-only draft.

  • Rams' Stetson Bennett: Goes to NFI list

The Rams placed Bennett on the reserve/NFI list Wednesday, Greg Beacham of The Associated Press reports. It's not clear what precisely prompted the move, partially because Coach Sean McVay declined to explain it to reporters. Bennett had reportedly been dealing with shoulder soreness ahead of Week 1, so it could be that, but for now all that is known for certain is that the Rams will need a new backup quarterback for the immediate future.

  • Rams' Stetson Bennett: Out Week 1

Bennett has been ruled out for Sunday's season opener against the Seahawks due to a right shoulder injury, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports. The Rams will call up Brett Rypien from the practice squad to serve as their backup quarterback spot behind Matthew Stafford. Bennett has been dealing with arm soreness through training camp, culminating in a disappointing preseason finale where he completed just four of nine passes for 14 yards and two interceptions. Bennett's status beyond Week 1 is unclear as of now.

  • Rams' Stetson Bennett: Struggles in limited action

Bennett completed four of nine passes for 14 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in the Rams' 41-0 preseason loss to the Broncos on Saturday night. Bennett drew the start but struggled for the majority of his three drives. The rookie capped off his final possession with an interception at the Broncos' 37-yard line on a pass intended for Demarcus Robinson, putting an ugly finish to what had been a solid preseason coming into the night. Bennett had completed 32 of 53 passes for 333 yards with a touchdown and an interception over the first pair of exhibitions, and it now remains to be seen whether the Rams will opt to keep a third quarterback on the active roster behind Matthew Stafford and Brett Rypien.

  • Rams' Stetson Bennett: Impressive in pro debut

Bennett completed 17 of 29 passes for 191 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and rushed twice for two yards in the Rams' 34-17 preseason loss to the Chargers on Saturday night. Bennett came in on the Rams' fourth possession and remained in the game the rest of the way, overcoming a slow start that saw him open with three straight incompletions. The rookie fourth-round selection and two-time college national champion connected with Puka Nacua for a 10-yard touchdown pass late in the first half for his first NFL scoring toss, and he also hit the fifth-round pick for a 17-yard gain on his first completion. Bennett could conceivably beat out Brett Rypien for the No. 2 job behind Matthew Stafford with a strong enough preseason, although given the veteran's recent injury history, head coach Sean McVay may be more comfortable entrusting that role to a player who at least has a modicum of regular-season experience.
