Colts' Trey Sermon: Re-signs with Indy
The Colts re-signed Sermon on Thursday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
In 14 games for the Colts during the 2023 regular season, Sermon rushed 35 times (including 17 carries in Week 15) for 160 yards to go along with three catches for 13 yards. With Zack Moss now with the Bengals, Sermon will have a chance to carve out a complementary role behind starter Jonathan Taylor in 2024, but chances are Indianapolis will add further backfield depth via free agency or the draft.

Sermon wasn't tendered by the Colts, making him an unrestricted free agent, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Sermon rushed 35 times for 160 yards as a member of the Colts in 2023, but the team didn't retain his rights as a restricted free agent, even after watching fellow running back Zack Moss sign with the Bengals in free agency. Sermon will look to sign with another team and compete for a roster spot in camp.

Sermon had something of a bounce-back season in his third year after suiting up for just two games in his sophomore season in 2022. He was only able to fill a rotational role behind the capable duo of Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss, but he was efficient while averaging 4.6 yards per tote. Sermon enters the offseason as a free agent, but he's put himself in a position to land on a roster somewhere in the league in 2024.

Colts' Trey Sermon: Won't play versus Houston
Sermon (coach's decision) is inactive for Saturday's game against the Texans, Raven Moore of the Colts' official site reports.
The move comes with Zack Moss (forearm) returning from a two-game absence for the regular-season finale. Sermon saw the field in spells due to both Moss and Jonathan Taylor missing time this season. He'll finish the regular season with 160 rushing yards on 35 carries while adding three catches for 13 yards over 14 games.

Colts' Trey Sermon: Has 32 yards rushing in win
Sermon had five carries for 32 yards and two receptions for nine yards on two targets in Sunday's win over the Raiders.
Sermon played 18 snaps on offense as he got playing time late in the game when Jonathan Taylor was briefly banged up. Sermon looks set to be the primary ball carrier behind Taylor with Zack Moss (forearm) out, while Tyler Goodson works in a pass-catching role among the backup running backs.

Colts' Trey Sermon: Just two carries in loss
Sermon had two carries for three yards in Sunday's 29-10 loss to Atlanta.
Both Goodson and Trey Sermon played 14 snaps on offense in reserve roles behind Jonathan Taylor (thumb), who made his return from a three-game absence while Zack Moss (forearm) sat out Sunday. Goodson, who had one carry and two receptions, drew more opportunities than Sermon, but both were used sparingly with Taylor available again. Sermon looks to be the top runner behind Taylor while Goodson profiles as superior pass-catching options, but both could see their roles on offense disappear entirely if Moss is able to play Week 17 against the Raiders.
