Player Outlook
Singletary signed with Houston this offseason, and he's expected to be the No. 2 running back behind Dameon Pierce. Singletary is worth drafting with a mid- to late-round pick as a handcuff in all leagues, and he could emerge as a lottery ticket if Pierce misses any time due to injury. He averaged 12.3 PPR points as a rookie in 2019, which ended up being his best of four seasons in Buffalo, but he had a solid stretch run to close 2021 when he scored at least 14 PPR points in each of his final five games, including two with at least 23 PPR points. Singletary has only had one season (2020) when he averaged fewer than 11.1 PPR points per game. When Pierce is active, Singletary should be looking at a handful of touches, but if his role expands, he could be a flex option in all formats. And should Pierce miss any time then Singletary could emerge as a weekly No. 2 running back.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

Singletary disappointed because he didn't get many carries last week, but that's uncharacteristic of the Texans offense. Some of that was made up for with receptions, giving him weak yardage totals without a touchdown. Rest assured, Singletary is still clearly Houston's lead back -- he played 81% of their snaps and dominated third downs and snaps inside the 5, even though it appeared Pierce rotated drives with him starting with the third one. The matchup is pretty good as Denver's run defense is the only element that hasn't improved much this season. While it's true that the Broncos have given up just one rushing touchdown in their past six games, it's also true they've let up 5.4 yards per carry in those same six games. Bank on the Texans giving Singletary more work on the ground to pace their offense. I'd start him over Jerome Ford, Javonte Williams and Joe Mixon.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: RBs to Start

Dameon Pierce returned from his three-game absence with an ankle injury in Week 12 against Jacksonville, but he played just 18 percent of the snaps. Singletary was still the lead running back, and he scored at least 13.2 PPR points for the third game in a row. I love that he had six catches for 54 yards on seven targets against the Jaguars, and I hope he continues to get work in the passing game moving forward. For Week 13, Singletary takes on a Broncos defense that allows the most Fantasy points to opposing running backs. Four running backs in the past three games have scored at least 12.0 PPR points, and Singletary has top-20 upside in all leagues this week.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Splits with Pierce in Week 12 loss

Singletary rushed six times for 18 yards while catching six of seven targets for 54 yards in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Jaguars. After a three-week run as Houston's lead back, Singletary split carries with Dameon Pierce (ankle) in Pierce's first action since Week 8. Neither running back found much rushing success, as Pierce finished with just 14 yards on five rushing attempts. Singletary was far more involved as a pass catcher out of the backfield, setting season highs in targets, catches and receiving yards while Pierce had just one reception. With a Week 13 home game against Denver's generous run defense up next, both members of Houston's backfield timeshare will be looking to bounce back on the ground.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Rejoined in backfield by Pierce

Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik suggested earlier in the week that Singletary will likely "share the load" Sunday against the Jaguars with Dameon Pierce (ankle), who is active after missing Houston's last three games, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. Pierce served as Houston's starting running back for the first seven games of the season but was one of the NFL's least-efficient runners, averaging a paltry 3.0 yards on 109 carries. While Pierce has been out the last three games with a high-ankle sprain, Singletary has given life to Houston's ground attack, taking 65 carries for 288 yards (4.4 average) and two touchdowns while adding five catches for 17 yards. Though Pierce isn't expected to face any restrictions Sunday after practicing fully Wednesday through Friday, he could have to settle for the No. 2 role out of the backfield or work in a timeshare with Singletary. Even if that's the case, Singletary will likely lose out on some touches and snaps with Pierce back in the fold, making Singletary less appealing of a fantasy play than he had been in the past three weeks.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: RBs to Start

We'll see if Dameon Pierce (ankle) is able to play in Week 12 against the Jaguars, but I can't imagine the Texans taking Singletary off the field for any significant amount of time. He's on fire coming into this game with at least 19.8 PPR points in consecutive games against the Bengals and Cardinals with 52 carries for 262 yards and two touchdowns and three catches for 17 yards on four targets over that span. The Jaguars have allowed three running backs in their past five games to score at least 17.9 PPR points, and Singletary should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy running back in all leagues.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Another 100-yard effort in win

Singletary rushed 22 times for 112 yards and a touchdown and brought in both targets for six yards in the Texans' 21-16 win over the Cardinals on Sunday. Singletary got the starting call once again with Dameon Pierce (ankle) still sidelined and delivered a highly efficient performance the likes of which his injured teammate hasn't come close to generating this season. Singletary also added his second touchdown in as many weeks with an 11-yard run in the second quarter, rounding out his fantasy production nicely. Even if Pierce, who returned to a limited practice Friday, is able to suit up in a Week 12 matchup against the Jaguars, the pecking order in the backfield may have shifted in Singletary's favor for the time being.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Sleeper RBs

We'll give Singletary the chance to be a flex option this week against the Cardinals after his breakout game against the Bengals in Week 10 when he had 30 carries for 150 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 11 yards on two targets. Just keep in mind that prior to that the Texans had two games all season where a running back had more than 10 PPR points, and both of them were by Dameon Pierce. This is a great matchup since the Cardinals are No. 3 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs this season, and Singletary should have the chance for 20-plus touches at home.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Another start on tap

Singletary again will operate as the Texans' top running back Sunday against the Cardinals with Dameon Pierce (ankle) ruled out for that contest. Singletary is slated for a third consecutive start with Pierce sidelined, and the former is coming off a career-best 150 rushing yards in this past Sunday's win at Cincinnati. Another 30-carry performance may not be needed this weekend versus Arizona, but he at least will be taking on a defense that has conceded the second-most touchdowns (14) to opposing running backs in 10 games this season.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

Singletary should continue to get a great opportunity to rack up numbers and potentially score against the Cardinals, even if it may not be as efficient as other backs. I moved him toward the top of the volume-driven Fantasy rushers, making him an RB2 I'd pick ahead of Najee Harris, Derrick Henry and Isiah Pacheco.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Sleepers (Start/Sit)

We'll give Singletary the chance to be a flex option this week against the Cardinals after his breakout game against the Bengals in Week 10 when he had 30 carries for 150 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 11 yards on two targets. Just keep in mind that prior to that the Texans had two games all season where a running back had more than 10 PPR points, and both of them were by Dameon Pierce. We don't know if Pierce (ankle) will return in Week 11 after missing the past two games, and if he's back then it's hard to trust Singletary. But this is a great matchup since the Cardinals are No. 3 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs this season.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Week 11 Adds (RB Preview)

Singletary busted out in a big way in Week 10 with 161 total yards and 23.1 PPR Fantasy points against the Cincinnati Bengals. In Week 11, he gets an even better matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. If Dameon Pierce is out, Singletary is a top-24 running back this week. If Pierce is back we would still expect Singletary to lead the backfield and be a solid flex.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Week 11 Waiver Priority List

Finally, the Texans had a good game from a running back as Singletary dominated the Bengals in Week 10 with 30 carries for 150 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 11 yards on two targets. We'll see if he can replicate that type of production in Week 11 against Arizona, but we also have to see if Dameon Pierce (ankle) is able to return. It could be a messy situation if we're back to Houston being a tandem, but I like Singletary as a No. 2 running back if Pierce remains out in Week 11. The Cardinals are No. 3 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs, and Singletary should be added in all leagues for at least 15 percent of your FAB.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Week 11 Early Waiver Targets (Add/Drop)

The Texans haven't been able to run the ball at all this season, as Dameon Pierce has taken a big step backward after a promising rookie season, but Singletary provided a big spark Sunday. He rushed for 150 yards on 30 carries against a tough Bengals front, nearly 70 more yards than any player had on the ground for the Texans in a game prior to Sunday. Singletary was already forcing his way into a committee before Pierce's ankle injury, and he might have done enough to just be the lead back here moving forward. I don't want to say Singletary would be a must-start Fantasy option moving forward even if that were true, of course, because let's not forget he had just 28 yards a week ago with Pierce out. But, at the very least, Singletary will have to be in the RB2 discussion for Week 11 against a soft Cardinals defense if Pierce is out.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Career-best effort in win

Singletary carried 30 times for a career-high 150 yards and a touchdown and brought in his only target for 11 yards in the Texans' 30-27 win over the Bengals on Sunday. Singletary filled in for Dameon Pierce (ankle) for the second straight game, and on this occasion, he was the only Texans running back to log a carry. Singletary consistently exploited running lanes throughout the afternoon, with his long gain going for a modest 22 yards. He also recorded his first touchdown in a Texans uniform on a six-yard run midway through the third quarter, the perfect punctuation mark on the career-best performance. Given how much Pierce has struggled for running room when he's been healthy, it's certainly conceivable the backfield develops into much more of a timeshare whenever the second-year back returns to action.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Expected to lead backfield

With Dameon Pierce (ankle) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Singletary is again expected to lead Houston's backfield. Pierce will miss his second straight game. Against the Bucs in Week 9, Singletary played 75 percent of the offensive snaps but struggled to get anything going on the ground, finishing with 26 yards on 13 carries. He added two catches for zero yards. Mike Boone will fill in as Singletary's change of pace.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: RBs to Sit (Start/Sit)

Things did not improve for Singletary despite being the lead running back in Week 9 against Tampa Bay with Dameon Pierce (ankle) out. Singletary had 13 carries for 26 yards and two catches for no yards on two targets. Pierce might return in Week 10 against the Bengals, but no Houston running back is worth trusting any time soon. This is the worst backfield in the NFL for Fantasy points, and things shouldn't improve much in Week 10 at Cincinnati. Expect Houston to be throwing a lot against the Bengals, and Singletary (if Pierce is still out) is only worth using as a flex option in deeper leagues.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Tough sledding as lead back

Singletary rushed 13 times for 26 yards and netted no gain on two catches in the Texans' 39-37 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. Singletary paced the Texans in rushing yards while serving as the de facto lead back in the absence of Dameon Pierce (ankle). Singletary found precious little running room against Tampa Bay's standout run defense, however, leading to minimal production relative to opportunity. The fifth-year pro could revert to a complementary role as early as a Week 10 road matchup against the Bengals.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Sit Him (Lineup Decisions)

Singletary is a decent start if you're in need of a running back who should get at least 12 touches. But that might mean just 60 to 70 total yards, and between the Bucs' ability to curb the run (zero rush TDs to RBs) and the Texans' struggles with the run (two rushing touchdowns on the ground, one by Pierce and one by fullback Andrew Beck), this feels like an option with low expectations. I'd rather start either of the Browns' top two RBs, Darrell Henderson, Zack Moss and Brian Robinson.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: Set for lead role with Pierce out

Singletary's expected to handle the bulk of the backfield workload Sunday against the Buccaneers, as Dameon Pierce (ankle) has been ruled out. Singletary started the season as Pierce's backup but worked his way into a timeshare over the past two games, due in large part to Pierce's struggles. With Pierce sidelined, Singletary will get a chance to showcase his skills in a lead role, though he'll be doing so against a Tampa Bay defense that has allowed just one scrimmage touchdown to a running back all season. Mike Boone and Dare Ogunbowale will round out Houston's Week 9 backfield depth chart.

  • Texans' Devin Singletary: RBs to Sit

Dameon Pierce is not expected to play in Week 9 against Tampa Bay because of an ankle injury, so Singletary will start in his place. I would try to avoid Singletary if possible, and he's a flex option at best in the majority of leagues. Houston will likely use Mike Boone and Dare Ogunbowale to help Singletary, but this backfield has been a mess all season. The Texans only have two games this season where a running back has scored double digits in PPR, which was Pierce in Week 3 at Jacksonville (14.9 points) and Week 4 against Pittsburgh (11.8 points). They have scored the fewest Fantasy points of any backfield in the NFL. This also isn't an easy matchup against the Buccaneers, who are No. 7 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs. I hope Singletary does well with Pierce out, but I'm not overly optimistic.
