Panthers' Javien Elliott: Shows versatility in limited role
Elliott recorded 38 tackles (24 solo), a half sack, two pass breakups and one interception across 16 contests in 2019.
Elliott held a rotational role in Carolina's secondary for much of the season while also contributing on special teams. He'll become an unrestricted free agent in March, but even if the Panthers opt to re-sign him, Elliott won't be on the IDP radar in 2020.

Panthers' Javien Elliott: Headed to Carolina
Elliott agreed to a contract with the Panthers on Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Elliott spent the 2018 season with the Buccaneers, playing in 15 games and recording 24 tackles (22 solo) and one interception in 15 games. The 24-year-old could provide depth at the cornerback and contribute on special teams for Carolina.

Elliott was promoted to the 53-man roster following the placement of De'Vante Harris (hamstring) on injured reserve. A 2016 undrafted free agent, Elliott has played 21 games with Tampa over the last two seasons, recording 13 tackles and one pass defensed. Elliott should serve as a depth nickel corner and special-teams contributor this season.

Elliott, battling Robert McClain for the nickel corner job, turned in a strong practice Wednesday, Joe Kania of the team's official site reports.
Despite being victimized by rookie Chris Godwin for a spectacular one-handed touchdown grab in one-on-one drills, Elliott's day was largely a success. He actually had solid coverage on the acrobatic catch, and he also picked off Jameis Winston during team drills during the session. Elliott added a strip of receiver Shaq Hill in one-on-ones, ripping the ball loose just after the pass had arrived. The FSU product recorded 10 tackles (eight solo) and one pass defensed in six games last season and logged 38 total snaps (31 on defense, seven on special teams) in last Thursday's win over the Jaguars.

Elliott continued his strong start to camp by breaking up multiple passes in Thursday's practice, Joe Kania of the team's official site reports.
The FSU product has been working as the No. 3 corner in the majority of practices thus far and has flashed in nearly every session. Thursday's may have been his most impressive, however, as Elliott recorded at least three passes defensed and often provided blanket coverage against Adam Humphries in team drills. The 24-year-old spent time on the practice squad last season and also logged six games with the Bucs, posting 10 tackles (eight solo) and one pass defensed.

The rookie will take the roster spot of the suspended Jude Adjei-Barimah and provide some depth at corner for the depleted Bucs, who also saw Brent Grimes suffer a quad injury in Sunday's game against the Chiefs. If Grimes is unable to suit up for the Week 12 tilt against the Seahawks, Elliott and Josh Robinson figure in as the top backups behind presumed starters Alterraun Verner and Vernon Hargreaves.
