  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Placed in concussion protocol

Slayton has been placed in the NFL's five-step concussion protocol following Sunday's 27-22 loss to the Commanders, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Slayton was evaluated for a head injury late in the fourth quarter, and the tests revealed a concussion. The veteran wide receiver will need to be cleared by an independent neurologist before he can resume playing. Slayton's placement in concussion protocol could affect the interest in him from other teams prior to the Nov. 5 trade deadline.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Concussion check ordered up

Slayton got checked for a concussion during Sunday's game against the Commanders, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Prior to exiting late in the fourth quarter, Slayton had gathered in all three targets for 49 yards and taken one carry for 11 yards. If he's diagnosed with a concussion, he'll be subject to league protocol before he can suit up again.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Hits for another long gain Monday

Slayton brought in four of seven targets for 108 yards in the Giants' 26-18 loss to the Steelers on Monday night. Slayton led the Giants in receiving yards with his second-highest total of the campaign. The veteran wideout also commanded a lot more of Daniel Jones' attention after logging only one target Week 7, and Slayton now has a combined 30 looks in the past four contests. The speedster could still thrive if embattled head coach Brian Daboll opts to make a change at quarterback from Jones to Drew Lock heading into a Week 9 home matchup against the Commanders, considering Lock has shown a willingness to throw deep throughout his career.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Quiet in Nabers' return

Slayton caught one of three targets for 11 yards in Sunday's Week 7 loss to Philadelphia. With star rookie Malik Nabers out the previous two weeks due to a concussion, Slayton had stepped up as one of QB Daniel Jones' primary targets, totaling 14 catches for 179 yards and a touchdown. However, Nabers returned Sunday, and Slayton predictably faded back into a lesser role. New York's offense struggled as a whole in the contest -- the team totaled a meager 105 passing yards -- and Slayton was on the field for all 58 of the team's snaps, so there's reason to believe the performance was a low point rather than a new norm. Still, it's been pretty clear this season that the veteran wideout is going to struggle to put up useful fantasy numbers whenever the frequently targeted Nabers is on the field.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Stays limited in practice

Slayton (groin) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. With back-to-back capped sessions in his back pocket this week due to a groin injury, Slayton will have only one more chance for full participation in practice Friday before the Giants potentially give him a designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles. Standout rookie WR Malik Nabers reached the final phase of the concussion protocol Thursday, while Wan'Dale Robinson (ankle) practiced fully, so Slayton seemingly is the least healthy of the Giants' top options at the position at the moment.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Limited by groin injury

Slayton was a limited practice participant Wednesday due to a groin injury, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Slayton showed no signs of being limited this past Sunday, when he drew 11 targets for a second straight game and played 86 percent of the offensive snaps in a 17-7 loss to the Bengals. He briefly left the contest to be checked for a concussion, but he returned in short order and continued drawing steady targets in the absence of Malik Nabers, who remains in concussion protocol and also was a limited practice participant Wednesday. Slayton's fantasy appeal for Week 7 against the Eagles hinges on both his health and Nabers'.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Leads team with 11 targets

Slayton finished with six receptions (11 targets) for 57 yards in Sunday's 17-7 loss to the Bengals. Slayton was briefly evaluated and cleared from a concussion after landing hard in the end zone on a missed connection late in Sunday's loss, according to Giants beat reporter Dan Salomone. The injury scare actually drew a pass interference flag that led to the ensuing Tyrone Tracy rushing touchdown. The 27-year-old Slayton finished the contest with a solid PPR performance, but his upside leaves much to be desired heading into next Sunday's tilt against the Eagles. He will receive a small boost in projections should Malik Nabers (concussion) remain sidelined for a third straight game.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Nabers out again Week 6

Slayton is set to remain the Giants' top option on the outside Sunday against the Bengals, as Malik Nabers (concussion) has been ruled out, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Slayton stepped up with 122 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets in Nabers' absence against the Seahawks in Week 5, matching the former's receiving yardage total from the previous four games combined. Slayton is well positioned to make the most of the additional volume in a primetime matchup against a struggling Bengals defense. Jalin Hyatt likely will get the majority of reps on the outside opposite Slayton, while Wan'Dale Robinson will continue to man the slot.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Could see more targets sans Nabers

Slayton could get more looks from QB Daniel Jones with Malik Nabers (concussion) ruled out for Week 5 against Seattle, per Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports. Slayton led New York in targets and receiving yards last season but has taken a backseat to Nabers early in the 2024 campaign. Nabers hasn't cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and has consequently been deemed out for Sunday, likely giving Slayton -- who has 10 catches on 15 targets through four games -- the chance to be a bigger part of the Giants' air attack. Wan'Dale Robinson should continue to work in the slot and get substantial attention from Jones as he has for most of the season, while Jalin Hyatt figures to serve as New York's No. 3 wideout Sunday and will look to log his first catch of the campaign.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Trio of grabs in loss

Slayton brought in three of five targets for 56 yards in the Giants' 20-15 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday night. Slayton worked through a thumb injury during the short week to suit up Thursday, and he finished well behind the top duo of Malik Nabers (concussion) and Wan'Dale Robinson across his receiving line. However, the veteran wideout was able to make one of his signature chunk plays through the air, recording a 28-yard grab early in the second quarter on a drive that culminated in a Greg Joseph field goal. Slayton has a trio of three-catch tallies over his first four games, and if Nabers isn't able to clear concussion protocol for a Week 5 road matchup against the Seahawks on Sunday, Oct. 6, the former would be in line for an uptick in opportunity.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Suiting up Thursday

Slayton (thumb) is listed as active Thursday against the Cowboys, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. After leaving this past Sunday's win at Cleveland for a spell due to a thumb injury, Slayton underwent X-rays that came back negative. He then was listed as limited on all three of the Giants' Week 4 practice reports before being listed as questionable. The issue won't stop him from suiting up Thursday, but Slayton will be donning a wrap/splint on his right thumb, per Dan Duggan of The Athletic.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Questionable for Week 4

Slayton (thumb) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Cowboys, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Slayton made a brief exit at the tail end of this past Sunday's win at Cleveland due to a thumb injury. He underwent X-rays that returned negative, but he was listed as limited on the Giants' practice reports issued Monday and Tuesday and thus will head into Thursday with a designation. Slayton's status will be confirmed about 90 minutes before an 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, when the Giants release their inactive list.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Estimated as limited participant

Slayton (thumb) is listed as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. The Giants held a walkthrough Monday, so Slayton's activity level is only an estimation, but it's nonetheless encouraging to see the No. 3 wideout listed as limited Monday. X-rays on Slayton's thumb came up negative Monday after he was briefly forced out of Sunday's 21-15 win over the Browns. That bodes well for his chances of being cleared to suit up for Thursday's divisional matchup against the Cowboys.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: X-rays on thumb return negative

Slayton underwent X-rays on his thumb following Sunday's 21-15 win over the Browns, but they came back negative, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Slayton was briefly forced out of Sunday's contest early in the fourth quarter due to the thumb injury, but he returned with 7:40 remaining and finished the afternoon with a 1-7-0 receiving line on two targets while logging 81 percent of snaps. The wideout might have been playing through some discomfort the rest of the game, but with X-rays coming back negative, Slayton would seem to have a good chance at being available for the Giants' Week 4 matchup with the Cowboys on Thursday night.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Ready for Sunday's contest

Slayton (concussion) practiced full Friday and doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game in Washington, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. In the wake of entering the concussion protocol earlier this week, Slayton was held out of drills Wednesday before getting some non-contact work one day later. His full practice Friday was accompanied by no game status for Week 2, indicating he gained clearance from an independent neurologist. Thus, Slayton will team up with Malik Nabers (knee), Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt at wide receiver for New York's offense this weekend.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Upgrades to limited Thursday

Slayton (concussion) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Slayton entered the protocol for head injuries in the wake of the Giants' Week 1 loss to the Vikings. After sitting out Wednesday's session, he was back on the field for some non-contact drills one day later, indicating he's through at least a few of the five steps of the aforementioned protocol. Slayton will have one more opportunity to get back to all activity this week, but he'll still need to gain clearance from an independent neurologist in order to suit up Sunday at Washington.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Limited in practice

Coach Brian Daboll said Friday that Slayton is "tight" and won't be a full practice participant, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Slayton reportedly was limited Thursday, and he previously dealt with an undisclosed injury during June minicamp. It doesn't sound like anything serious, but perhaps the Giants will provide more details if Slayton isn't back at full strength next week.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: On track for training camp

Coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday he expects Slayton (undisclosed) to be ready for the start of training camp late July, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Slayton suffered an undisclosed injury at Tuesday's minicamp practice, but it doesn't appear the Giants are overly concerned about his health. Slayton is positioned for a starting gig in New York's wide receiver corps, alongside rookie first-round addition Malik Nabers, plus incumbent Wan'Dale Robinson, who should be more effective now that he's another year removed from his ACL tear.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Leaves practice with injury

Slayton (undisclosed) departed Tuesday's practice at mandatory minicamp early due to an apparent injury, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports. Slayton appeared to sustain an injury after colliding with a teammate, but he was able to walk off the field under his own power. The 27-year-old remains in position to handle a starting role for the Giants, though rookie phenom Malik Nabers is likely the clear No. 1, so the Giants' offense can ill afford to have Slayton miss any time. With tight end Darren Waller having now officially retired, New York is lacking for depth behind Nabers, Slayton and third-year pro Wan'Dale Robinson. If Slayton is sidelined, more reps will open up for Jalin Hyatt, Allen Robinson and Isaiah McKenzie.

  • Giants' Darius Slayton: Gets incentives added to contract

Slayton showed up to OTAs this week after the Giants added $650,000 of incentives to his contract, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports. The 27-year-old is entering the second season of a two-year, $12 million contract, and while he might have been hoping for an extension or additional guaranteed money, it seems he'll settle for the boosted incentives. Slayton has led the Giants in receiving yards in four of his five NFL seasons, topping 700 yards each time without ever getting to 800. He'll likely be one of the team's top three WRs in 2024, along with sixth overall pick Malik Nabers and slot man Wan'Dale Robinson. Of the three, Slayton is least likely to draw a large number of targets, as he's never seen passes on a large percentage of his routes even when playing a lot of snaps in offenses with subpar receiving alternatives.
