Jashon Cornell: Tries out for New England
The Patriots hosted Cornell (undisclosed) for a workout Monday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
Cornell was waived with an injury settlement from the Lions' IR in early September, though the nature of his issue was never revealed. However, the third-year defensive lineman now appears to be healthy again after going through a workout with the Patriots. Cornell could serve a deep reserve role for New England while nose tackle Christian Barmore (knee) sits out on IR until at least Week 15.

Cornell (undisclosed) was waived by the Lions with an injury designation Tuesday.
Cornell will likely go unclaimed and revert to IR once he clears waivers. The 25-year-old was praised by defensive line coach Todd Walsh earlier in the offseason, so the Lions may be happy to keep him on IR and give him an opportunity next season.

Lions' Jashon Cornell: Talked up by position coach
Lions defensive line coach Todd Wash labeled Cornell as a breakout candidate in 2022, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. "Jashon is a guy that's under the radar right now. I thought he had a really good spring and I look forward to seeing what he can being healthy again," Wash said.
Cornell has only logged four defensive snaps through two seasons, but the 2020 seventh-round draft pick has missed significant amounts of time due to an Achilles tear, a suspension and a stint on the non-football illness list. However, he appears to have had a productive offseason that included reps with the first-team defense, per Chris Burke of The Athletic. While there doesn't seem to be a path for Cornell to become a starter in the base defense when Week 1 rolls around, he could see added responsibilities early on in the year if Romeo Okwara (Achilles) or Joshua Paschal (lower body) are slow to return to the field.

Cornell was activated from the reserve/non-football illness list Tuesday.
Cornell has had a rough start to his NFL career after being selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. First missing time with an Achilles injury, then dealing with a three-game suspension and ultimately ending up on the NFI-list due to an illness. Now healthy, Cornell will look to contribute on the Lions' defensive line, starting Sunday against the Seahawks.

Cornell returned to practice this week, although he is still on the Lions' Reserve/Non-Football illness list. The defensive tackle has been dealt a number of setbacks so far this season including a suspension and this illness.
