Bears' Mike Pennel: Slated for free agency
Pennel tallied one tackle in the Bears' 29-13 loss to the Vikings in Week 18, and ended the season with 26 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery over 17 games played. Pennel played about 20 snaps per game in a rotational role, and his tackle total is right in line with the production he's posted in most of his nine-year career. He's only had more than 29 tackles once in his career, and that was when he had 35 with the Jets in 2017. He should find a depth role next year, as he's now an unrestricted free agent.... The 31-year-old nose tackle wound up signing a one-year contract with Atlanta and registered 21 tackles over 10 games as a rotational defensive lineman. Pennel should provide much-needed depth along Chicago's interior defensive line following the loss of veterans Akiem Hicks and Bilal Nichols in free agency.... See More ... See Less -

Mike Pennel: Hits open market
The Jets have declined Pennel's $1 million option bonus, allowing him to become a free agent, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Signed to a three-year, $10.5 million contract last offseason, Pennel played all 16 games (seven starts) in 2018, notching 27 tackles (16 solo) and two quarterback hits on 358 defensive snaps. Mike Pennel: Dropped by Packers
Pennel was released by the Packers on Monday. Pennel's served two separate four-game suspensions this season, and after completing his latest punishment, he needed to be activated Monday in order to suit up during the playoffs, but the Packers declined that option by instead releasing him from their roster.
