  • Falcons' Grady Jarrett: Moved on IR

    The Falcons placed Jarrett (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Terrin Waack of the team's official site reports. Head coach Arthur Smith confirmed Monday that Jarrett tore his ACL in the first quarter of the Falcons' Week 8 loss to the Titans on Sunday. Jarrett had only missed three games in his career since being taken by the Falcons in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft and started in 120 of 135 appearances. He finishes the 2023 season with 23 tackles (nine solo), including 1.5 sacks, in eight games.

  • Falcons' Grady Jarrett: Won't return to Week 8 action

    Jarrett has been ruled out from returning to Sunday's game against Tennessee due to a knee injury, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports. Jarrett injured his knee early in the contest, and he's since been deemed unable to return. LaCale London took over for Jarrett after the latter's departure but headed to the medical tent with an injury of his own in the third quarter. The Falcons' defensive interior could be razor thin if London's injury keeps him sidelined as well.

    Jarrett registered five tackles (three solo) and one sack during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Browns. Jarrett recorded at least five tackles and one sack for the third time this season. Aside from a lackluster performance against the Rams, the veteran defensive tackle has been a major force for Atlanta's defense this season, totaling 16 tackles and 3.5 sacks through four games.

    Jarrett notched five tackles (four solo), including three for loss, and one sack during Sunday's 27-23 win over the Seahawks. Jarrett was in the backfield on multiple occasions to shut down Seattle's rushing attack, but his lone sack couldn't have come at a better time. After a costly fumble by Marcus Mariota late in the fourth quarter, the Seahawks were driving, but Jarrett sacked Geno Smith for a 10-yard loss on third down, and Richie Grant sealed the victory with an interception on the next play. Across the first three games of the season, Jarrett has totaled 11 tackles (seven solo) and 2.5 sacks.

    Jarrett (groin) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports. Jarrett is back on the injury report again with the groin injury that has caused him to manage his practice reps this season. The Clemson product has yet to miss time this season, playing 79 percent of defensive snaps in last week's loss to New Orleans. If he continues to practice in some fashion this week he'll likely be out there for Week 14 against the Chargers.

Jarrett played through a hip injury over the last two games, and now he's bothered by a back issue. This is worth monitoring as the week goes on, as Jarrett consistently leads the Falcons' defensive line in snaps, and he's recorded 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks through five contests.

    Jarrett (hip) does not carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports. Jarrett was limited in Friday's practice, but he handled 78 percent of defensive snaps Week 4 while playing through the lingering hip injury, so it doesn't look as though his workload is in much danger of diminishing versus Carolina.     Jarrett amassed 2.5 sacks during Sunday's 26-9 win against New Orleans. The 26-year-old interior lineman spearheaded a breakout Week 10 for the Falcons' pass rush, as Atlanta generated six sacks on Saints quarterback Drew Brees after managing just seven sacks through the first eight outings of the year. In addition to his typical run-stuffing prowess, Jarrett has been emerging as a pocket disrupter of late, picking up QB hits in each of his past three appearances as well as 3.5 combined sacks over Atlanta's two most recent games against Seattle and New Orleans. Week 11 presents an opportunity for Jarrett to get after young Panthers signal-caller Kyle Allen, who has five lost fumbles already on the season.

    Jarrett is signing a four-year, $68 million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Jarrett and the Falcons appear to have reached an agreement just an hour or two before Monday's 4 p.m. ET deadline for franchise-tagged players. The 26-year-old defensive tackle averaged 51.7 tackles (27.3 solo) and 4.3 sacks over the past three seasons, including a career-high six sacks in 2018. The $17 million average annual value on his contract ranks third among defensive tackles, behind the Rams' Aaron Donald and the Eagles' Fletcher Cox.

Arguably the Falcons' top defensive player last season, Jarrett collected six sacks, 16 quarterback hits, eight tackles for loss and three forced fumbles for an injury-plagued unit. General manager Thomas Dimitroff has been adamant that the team wants Jarrett to be a cornerstone of the defense for years to come, so there should be plenty of motivation for the organization and the defensive tackle to work out a long-term deal.

After being limited during Wednesday's and Thursday's sessions, Jarrett participated in full Friday, and he does not carry an injury designation heading into a Week 16 road test against the Panthers. The excelling fourth-year defensive lineman has been playing his best ball of the season, collecting 16 tackles and three sacks over the past three weeks -- Jarrett's most tackles in a three-game span since racking up 18 between Weeks 7 and 9 of last season, while his six sacks on the year have already established a new career high. Carolina will look to lean on its No. 3 rushing attack Sunday (134.6 YPG) , with the untested Taylor Heinicke making his first career start at quarterback (five pass attempts across two seasons with Texans and Panthers).
