Williams was signed to the active roster from the practice squad Tuesday.
Williams has played in three games so far for the Falcons this season, recording three tackles (two solo). The nine-year veteran had spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Bengals. With Erik Harris (pectoral) being placed on IR on Saturday, Williams will look to provide depth in the Falcons' secondary for the rest of the season, beginning Sunday against the Lions.

Shawn Williams: Sent packing by Cardinals
The Cardinals released Williams on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Williams started 31 games for the Bengals between 2018 and 2019, totaling at least 110 tackles in each season. However, he was held to just 85 snaps across 13 games in 2020. The 30-year-old safety will be immediately eligible to sign with another team.

Williams' one-game suspension was lifted by the NFL on Monday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Though the veteran safety will rejoin his teammates for the final three weeks of the regular season, his future with the organization remains up in the air. Williams is set to become an unrestricted free agent this winter, and he's yet to start a single game at strong safety after registering 15 starts during 2019. Williams has been suspended one game for violation of the NFL's unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct rules, Michael Signora of NFL Communications reports.
Williams stepped on the leg of Dolphins offensive guard Solomon Kindley during Sunday's loss to Miami, prompting the league to dole out discipline to the 29-year-old safety. The Georgia product has made 10 appearances this season, but he remains without a start after registering 15 during 2019.
