Richardson (shoulder) exercised his $3 million player option Friday and will return to Miami for the 2024-25 season, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
A shoulder injury in February led to a premature ending to Richardson's 2023-24 season, but he was a rotational player prior to the injury. Overall, he averaged 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 triples and 0.6 steals across 25.7 minutes in 43 games. The veteran wing will look to earn a similar role for the Heat in the upcoming season.

Heat's Josh Richardson: Out with dislocated shoulder
Rotowire
The Heat announced Monday that Richardson has been diagnosed with a dislocated right shoulder following an MRI and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Richardson sustained the injury in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to Boston and was sent in for an MRI, which confirmed that he dislocated his right shoulder. He'll be sidelined for the Heat's final two games before the All-Star break and will likely miss time to begin the second half, with a clearer date for his return to come once he's re-evaluated. Duncan Robinson, Caleb Martin and Jaime Jaquez could all have higher minutes floors in Richardson's absence, while Haywood Highsmith should gain some security in the Miami rotation.

Heat's Josh Richardson: MRI on tap
Rotowire
Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said after Sunday's 110-106 loss to the Celtics that Richardson (shoulder) will undergo an MRI on Monday, ESPN.com reports.
Along with Richardson, Terry Rozier (knee) is scheduled to get an MRI on Monday after both players exited Sunday's contest with injuries. Richardson was the first of the two to depart, checking out of the game with nine minutes remaining in the second quarter when he said he felt his right shoulder pop out and pop back when he unsuccessfully tried to strip the Celtics' Jayson Tatum of the ball. Based on Richardson's own description of the injury, he seems to be dealing with a dislocated shoulder, but the MRI should bring further clarity on the nature and extent of his health concern. The Heat haven't officially ruled Richardson or Rozier out for the front end of a back-to-back set Tuesday in Milwaukee, though both would appear unlikely to be available at this stage.

Heat's Josh Richardson: Late addition to starting lineup
Rotowire
Richardson is starting Sunday's game against the Clippers.
Richardson wasn't included on Miami's initial list of starters for Sunday's matchup, but he'll draw the start due to Tyler Herro being questionable with a headache. Richardson's overall role will likely depend on whether Herro can take the court against the Clippers.
Richardson notched 24 points (9-15 FG, 6-10 3Pt), five rebounds, three assists and one block in 27 minutes off the bench during Wednesday's 115-106 win over the Kings.
The 24 points were a season high for Richardson, who hadn't even topped 12 since Dec. 18. The 30-year-old guard's lack of consistency makes him difficult to roster for fantasy purposes, and through 14 games in January he averaged just 9.9 points, 2.9 boards, 1.8 assists and 1.7 threes in 22.7 minutes a contest.

Rotowire
Richardson tallied 12 points (4-6 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes Monday in the Heat's 120-113 win over the Rockets.
Since returning to action last week following a four-game absence due to a back injury, Richardson has stepped into a stable 20-to-30-minute role on the second unit while averaging 10.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 three-pointers, 0.7 steals and 0.7 blocks.
