Marlins' Robby Snelling: Making case for promotion
Snelling allowed three hits over seven scoreless innings for Double-A Pensacola on Wednesday, striking out seven without issuing a walk.
The 21-year-old southpaw seems to have turned a corner since a rough stretch in late April and early May in which he walked 13 batters over 9.2 innings. Over six starts since then, Snelling has compiled a much tidier 35:5 K:BB in 35.1 innings, along with a 2.80 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. He's knocking on the door of a promotion to Triple-A, and given the injuries that have wracked the Marlins' rotation, a big-league debut in 2025 can't be ruled out if he continues to display improved control and command.

Marlins' Robby Snelling: Better since trade
Snelling has a 3.77 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB in 31 innings across six starts for Double-A Pensacola.
The Marlins acquired Snelling as part of the deadline deal that sent Tanner Scott and Bryan Hoeing to the Padres. The 20-year-old lefty had a mediocre 10.3 K-BB% prior to the trade and has a 17.1 K-BB% since the deal. Snelling is the youngest qualified starter at Double-A and has now logged 100-plus innings in back-to-back minor-league campaigns.

Marlins' Robby Snelling: Traded to Fish
Snelling is part of the prospect package going from San Diego to Miami in exchange for Tanner Scott and Bryan Hoeing, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
Snelling is the youngest qualified pitcher at Double-A, which helps explain some of his struggles this season. He had a 6.01 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and a 67:33 K:BB in 73.1 innings across 16 starts in the Texas League. Snelling has been capable of strong performances this year, including several starts in which he allowed one earned run or fewer with five-plus strikeouts over at least five innings, but he has lacked consistency, mixing in multiple starts in which he gave up more runs than innings pitched. The Marlins will likely assign Snelling to Double-A Pensacola, and if he can display more consistency, he could join the big-league rotation at some point in 2025.

Padres' Robby Snelling: Uneven at Double-A
Snelling has a 3.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 23:14 K:BB in 28 innings across six starts for Double-A San Antonio.
The youngest qualified pitcher at Double-A, Snelling was excellent in his first three starts (1.98 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 15:7 K:BB in 13.2 IP), but he's allowed 21 hits while walking seven and striking out eight in 14.1 innings over his last three starts. On the bright side, the young southpaw has thrown five-plus innings in back-to-back starts and is a level or two ahead of most 20-year-old pitching prospects.

Padres' Robby Snelling: Promoted to Double-A
The Padres promoted Snelling from High-A Fort Wayne to Double-A San Antonio on Sunday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The Padres are moving several prospects up in their farm system Sunday, and Snelling will attempt to prove himself at the Double-A level after a month and a half with the High-A club. Over seven outings at Fort Wayne, he posted a 2.34 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 34.2 innings.

Padres' Robby Snelling: Moves up to High-A
The Padres promoted Snelling from Single-A Lake Elsinore to High-A Fort Wayne on Tuesday.
Snelling made his High-A debut Sunday, striking out four Lake County batters over five innings while giving up two earned runs on four hits and two walks. Prior to receiving the bump up to Fort Wayne, Snelling had been one of the most dominant pitchers in the California League, logging a 1.57 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 59:13 K:BB in 51.2 innings.
