Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Swipes second bag
Clement went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's rain-shortened loss to the Royals.
Getting the start at third base and batting sixth, Clement did what he could with his opportunities, dropping a sacrifice bunt in the second inning before singling home the Jays' only run of the game in the fourth. The 28-year-old has a four-game RBI streak going despite sporadic playing time, and while he sports an impressive .292/.300/.479 slash line on the season with two homers, two steals, six RBI and nine runs in 51 plate appearances, Clement is one of five utility players currently on the big-league roster -- along with Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Cavan Biggio, Davis Schneider and the recently promoted Addison Barger -- who are splitting time between second base, third base and left field. Unless that logjam gets cleared a little, it will be tough for Clement or any of that cohort to provide consistent fantasy value.

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Goes deep in loss
Clement went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Padres.
Clement left the yard with a solo blast to left field off Joe Musgrove in the third inning for his second home run of the year. Clement came into this season with just four career home runs and is already halfway to that mark in the first month of the campaign. The 28-year-old is slashing .295/.304/.500 with five extra-base hits, four RBI, nine runs and a 0:5 BB:K in 46 plate appearances.

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Swipes bag Tuesday
Clement went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Yankees.
Getting the start at third base and batting seventh, Clement delivered his second straight multi-hit performance and fourth of the season. The 28-year-old utility player predictably hasn't been able to match his blistering spring now that the games count, but he's become a useful part of Toronto's mix-and-match infield, batting .289 (11-for-38) with three doubles, a homer, a steal, two RBI and eight runs while making appearances at third base (nine), shortstop (four), second base (one) and even left field (one).

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Clubs first homer of season
Clement went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's win over the Yankees.
Entering the game as a pinch hitter for Cavan Biggio in the top of the seventh inning, Clement broke open a 0-0 tie by driving a Caleb Ferguson fastball over the fence in left field. It was the 28-year-old infielder's first long ball and first RBI of the season, but he's had a solid start to the campaign, going 5-for-17 (.294) with three runs scored and only one strikeout. Clement's hit tool, defensive versatility and developing power -- he slugged 11 homers with a .196 ISO in 320 plate appearances for Triple-A Buffalo last year -- could allow him to carve out a much larger role than expected on a Toronto roster that lacks full-time starters at second base and third base.

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Looks good for roster spot
Clement appears to have won a spot on the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster following the trade of Santiago Espinal to the Reds on Wednesday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.
Clement was likely in the lead for an infield utility role anyway, but shipping out Espinal clarifies the roster picture for Toronto. The 27-year-old has been stunningly productive this spring, batting .375 (15-for-40) with three homers, two triples, two steals and only one strikeout, but his career .231/.279/.299 slash line through 364 big-league plate appearances is probably a better reflection of his fantasy appeal. It's also not clear just how much playing time Clement will get given that the Jays already have a number of players with versatile defensive portfolios, including Cavan Biggio and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, but Espinal faced similar competition in 2023 and still saw 254 PAs over 93 games.

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Continues raking in camp
Clement 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays.
The 27-year-old launched a two-run homer off Zach Eflin in the second inning before singling home another run off the Tampa right-hander in the third. Clement came into camp with a decent chance of winning the final spot on the Toronto bench due to the fact that he was out of minor-league options, but he's backed that up with a scorching spring that's seen him hit .400 (10-for-25) through nine games with a triple and two homers. Perhaps more impressively, he hasn't struck out once in 26 plate appearances. The Blue Jays have unsettled situations at both second base and third base, and if Clement carries his hot stick into the regular season, he could push his way into playing time at both spots.

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Making case for bench spot
Clement has emerged as a favorite to win a utility job on the Blue Jays' bench, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.
The 27-year-old infielder has a modest .578 OPS through 364 career big-league plate appearances, but he's out of minor-league options and has gone 5-for-13 (.385) with a triple and a stolen base through five Grapefruit League games. Clement's main competition appears to be Santiago Espinal and veteran non-roster invitee Eduardo Escobar, but the former can be optioned to Triple-A and the latter is flailing at the plate, going 0-for-15 with eight strikeouts this spring.
