Morejon (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Morejon is expected to work in two-to-three inning stints as he works his way back from the elbow inflammation that has sidelined him for all of 2023. The left-hander is eligible to come off the 60-day injured list May 31, and the Padres could either stretch the left-hander out as a starter or use him as a multi-inning reliever around the start of June.... Padres' Adrian Morejon: Slated for bullpen session
Morejon (elbow) is expected to toss a bullpen session in Chicago on Tuesday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The bullpen session, if it takes place as scheduled, will mark Morejon's first time on a mound since leaving a spring training game due to left arm discomfort in mid-March. The southpaw underwent a subsequent MRI that came back negative, but he was nonetheless placed on the 60-day IL prior to Opening Day. Morejon isn't eligible to come off the injured list until late May.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Lands on 60-day IL
Morejon (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday. Morejon was diagnosed with a left elbow sprain in mid-March and will be sidelined through at least late May. The oft-injured 24-year-old southpaw doesn't carry an exact recovery timetable at the moment.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Tests come back negative
MRI scans on Morejon's elbow came back negative Friday, Bob Scanlan of Bally Sports San Diego reports. After having to leave Sunday's contest against Oakland early with elbow soreness, Morejon's MRI results bring some good news for the 24-year-old lefty. He will be treated for elbow inflammation going forward, and there is still no official word on how much time, if any, he will miss to start the season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Set to undergo MRI this week
Morejon (elbow) will undergo an MRI this week, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Morejon had to depart Sunday's Cactus League game versus the Athletics due to soreness above his elbow. Arm injuries are, unfortunately, nothing new for the left-hander, and he would appear likely to need another IL stint to begin the season even if he receives relatively good news from the MRI.... Padres' Adrian Morejon: Exits with arm discomfort
Morejon left Sunday's game against the Athletics with discomfort in the back of his arm, above his elbow, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. This is unfortunately all too familiar for Morejon, who has never topped 65.1 innings in a season despite the fact the Padres have continued to try developing him as a starting pitcher. He should be considered out indefinitely and any hopes of him breaking camp in the big-league rotation are likely dashed.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Blown up by Dodgers
Morejon didn't record an out in an appearance against the Dodgers on Sunday, allowing four runs on three hits and one walk. The Padres put themselves back into the game with a three-run top of the seventh inning that closed their deficit to one run, but Morejon couldn't contain Los Angeles in the bottom of the frame. The southpaw allowed all four batters he faced to reach base, and Trayce Thompson ended his outing by slamming a three-run, pinch-hit homer to left field. Morejon allowed only one run over 14.2 innings in August, but a pair of four-run blowouts in 19 appearances this season has his ERA at 4.50.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Earns win Wednesday
Morejon (2-0) was credited with the win against the Marlins on Wednesday. He struck out three batters over 1.2 scoreless innings. San Diego got off to a big early lead, but starter Mike Clevinger wasn't sharp and exited after allowing three of the four batters he faced in the fifth inning to reach base. Morejon came on and hit the first batter he faced with a pitch, but he rebounded by striking out the following two hitters. The southpaw remained in the game for the sixth frame and retired the side on 11 pitches. Morejon has been excellent through seven appearances in August, pitching 7.2 scoreless innings and posting a 7:1 K:BB.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Yields run in return
Morejon (shoulder) gave up a run on two hits and struck out one in one inning during Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the Rockies. Morejon missed about three weeks with shoulder inflammation. The 23-year-old southpaw has allowed at least one run in three of his four appearances this season, though he's also picked up one win. He's added a 2:1 K:BB with a 4.76 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through 5.2 innings. Morejon is expected to fill a middle-relief role going forward, and his background as a starter could allow him to cover multiple innings.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Reinstated from injured list
Morejon (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Morejon has been out a few weeks with shoulder inflammation, but he'll rejoin San Diego's bullpen after a three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso. The left-hander has covered only 4.2 frames for the Padres this year, but he could play a big role in the middle innings during the second half of the season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Beginning rehab assignment
Morejon (shoulder) will join Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Assuming the Padres are keeping Morejon in the bullpen, the lefty doesn't figure to need more than one or two rehab appearances before being activated. Morejon allowed two earned runs in 4.2 innings of relief before going on the injured list June 23 with shoulder inflammation.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Resumes playing catch
Morejon (shoulder) started playing catch again Friday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Morejon was placed on the injured list with left shoulder inflammation June 23, but Padres manager Bob Melvin suggested that the issue isn't a major concern. Still, the organization is likely to take a careful approach with the southpaw given the fact that Morejon is 14 months removed from Tommy John surgery. Regarding the shoulder injury, Melvin stated, "I don't think it's anything serious -- he's obviously somebody we're going to be careful with after what he went through."... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Hits injured list
Morejon was placed on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation Thursday. Morejon returned from Tommy John surgery in early June and also spent time on the COVID-19 injured list. He's been effective when available, allowing only two earned runs across 4.2 frames while picking up a win Wednesday. Given his already significant history of arm injuries, this is a concerning development.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Earns win Wednesday
Morejon (1-0) was credited with the win against Arizona on Wednesday, allowing an unearned run on one hit and one walk over 1.1 innings. Padres starter Mike Clevinger pitched well in his first start since returning from the COVID-19 injured list, but he was limited to four innings. Morejon benefited from Clevinger's short outing, taking over in the fifth with San Diego holding a big lead and tossing 1.1 frames to earn the win. The lefty reliever has gotten into three games since returning from the injured list June 7, allowing two earned runs and posting a 1:1 K:BB over 4.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Added to COVID-19 list
Morejon was placed on the COVID-19-related injured list Saturday. Morejon made his season debut earlier in the week, but he will have to clear the league's protocols before he makes his next appearance.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Throws two perfect frames in return
Morejon tossed two perfect innings against the Mets on Tuesday, striking out one batter. Morejon recently completed his rehab from Tommy John surgery and made his first major-league appearance since April 11, 2021. He needed only 18 pitches to retire all six batters he faced, throwing 14 strikes -- including four of the swinging variety. The southpaw will likely work mostly in low-leverage situations for the time being.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Sent down following reinstatement
Morejon (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Monday. Morejon began a rehab assignment May 10 and allowed five runs (four earned) in 10.1 innings over seven appearances (two starts). While the left-hander is now healthy, he'll remain in the minors for now. Morejon has big-league experience as a starter and as a reliever, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him join the Padres at some point this year.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Solid in first rehab outing
Morejon (elbow) tossed three innings for Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five. In his first trip to the mound since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April of last year, Morejon threw 40 pitches -- 29 of which were strikes. He gave up a home run to the first batter he faced but then retired nine of his final 10 hitters. The left-hander has started eight of the 16 major-league games in which he has appeared, but given San Diego's stacked rotation, he will likely be used out of the bullpen when he rejoins the big club. Morejon is eligible to return from the injured list June 7.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Back to 60-day IL
Morejon (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Morejon underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2021, so it's no surprise he'll open the 2022 campaign on the 60-day IL. The 23-year-old lefty is throwing bullpen sessions and hopes to be ready for game action before the All-Star break in July.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Tommy John surgery completed
Padres manager Jayce Tingler said that Morejon (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Reports surfaced earlier Tuesday that Morejon was recommended to undergo the procedure after getting a second opinion on his left forearm/elbow strain, and he apparently wasted no time going under the knife. Morejon will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2021 season, and likely, a sizable portion of the 2022 campaign while he recovers from surgery. The Padres plan to activate Dinelson Lamet (elbow) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday to fill Morejon's spot in the rotation.... See More ... See Less
