The Padres placed Rosario (ankle) on the 60-day injured list Thursday. The move frees up a 40-man roster spot while Rosario, aiming for a midseason return from a broken ankle, continues his recover. Rosario had only six plate appearances in his big-league debut last season and, considering San Diego's remarkable infield depth, it might take some injuries for him to find MLB playing time in 2023.... Padres' Eguy Rosario: Suffers broken ankle
Rosario will be sidelined multiple months after suffering a fractured ankle while doing sprinting drills during winter ball, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Rosario needed surgery to repair the fracture and is expected to be on the shelf until around midseason. Ranked by MLB Pipeline as the No. 5 prospect in the Padres' system, Rosario had been slated to compete in spring training for a reserve role. The 23-year-old went 1-for-5 at the plate during a cup of coffee with San Diego last season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Eguy Rosario: Back to minors
Rosario was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday. Rosario was called up in late August and appeared in seven games off the bench during his few weeks in the majors. He went 1-for-5 with a walk and will now head back to El Paso, where he has a .291/.372/.518 slash line with 21 home runs , 76 RBI and 20 steals this season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Eguy Rosario: Called up by Padres
Rosario was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Friday. Rosario hasn't yet made his major-league debut, but he's one of the Padres' top prospects and has performed well at El Paso to begin the season. He slashed .291/.372/.518 with 21 homers, 92 runs, 76 RBI and 20 stolen bases in the minors this year and will attempt to carve out playing time at the big-league level after Matt Batten was sent down Friday.... Padres' Eguy Rosario: Epic hot streak continues
Rosario has gone 21-for-44 (.477) with four homers, three steals, 13 RBI and 16 runs in his last 11 games for Triple-A El Paso. These are only the latest in a lengthy series of exploits for Rosario, who's racked up an eye-popping .373/.452/.741 batting line across the last 49 games, lifting his season line to .299/.385/.529 with 18 homers and 18 steals. Rosario's development this season has been nothing short of remarkable, but it's hard to see the competing Padres finding many reps for him at the big-league level this season.... See More ... Padres' Eguy Rosario: Building momentum in minors
Rosario has swatted three home runs and knocked in seven runs while going 7-for-14 over his past three games with Triple-A El Paso. Rosario hit only .160 during his first six games in June, but he's turned things around considerably with his three-game hot stretch. The 22-year-old broke through with 12 homers and 30 stolen bases in 114 Double-A games last season and is on a similar pace with six long balls and 10 thefts through 54 games in his first Triple-A stint this year. He's striking out at a 23.7 percent clip but has balanced that with an above-average 10.5 percent walk rate.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Eguy Rosario: Optioned to Triple-A
Rosario was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. Rosario was added to the 40-man roster in November to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, and he went 4-for-18 with a run, an RBI, a stolen base and four strikeouts across nine Cactus League appearances this spring. After spending the entire 2021 campaign at Double-A San Antonio, he should progress to the Triple-A level to begin the season in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Eguy Rosario: Protected from Rule 5 draft
Rosario was added to the Padres' 40-man roster Friday. With the Padres' system a lot shallower than it used to be, Rosario is now one of the team's better hitting prospects in the upper levels. He hit .281/.360/.455 at Double-A and .262/.348/.361 in the Arizona Fall League.... See More ... See Less
