Manny Pacquiao is preparing for a bout with Chris Algieri later this month, but, as usual, all anyone wants to talk about is a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. This is not an uncommon topic.
On Wednesday, Pacquiao said that he's ready to make it happen.
"I do have one specific goal and that is to give the boxing fans the fight they have always asked for," Pacquiao said, according to ESPN. "I want that fight [with Mayweather] too."
There are a lot of variables, however, standing in the way. For one, the fighters have dueling contracts, with Pacquiao under contract with HBO and Mayweather with Showtime. Still, both guys have vowed they want to make the fight happen. Pacquiao, though, places blame on Mayweather's camp for gumming up the works.
"I believe good faith negotiations could produce that fight," he said. "But it is impossible to negotiate when you are the only one sitting at the table. Two fighters who want to fight each other have never been kept from fighting each other."
That last bit may be true, but if things continue progressing as they have, Pacquiao and Mayweather may be the exception to the rule.
