Kurt Busch has been accused of domestic assault by his ex-girlfriend, and police in Dover, Del., announced Friday that the NASCAR driver is under investigation.
The Dover Police Department said in a statement charges were brought to them Wednesday but refused to provide further details. According to ESPN, Busch's ex-girlfriend says the allegations date back to September, when Busch was in Delaware for a race. The couple had recently broken up when the alleged assault took place.
NASCAR announced it was aware of the situation.
"It would be inappropriate for NASCAR to comment further on this matter until we have more information," a statement read.
Rusty Hardin, Busch's lawyer, said the driver plans to cooperate fully with police.
"He expects to be vindicated when the entire truth of the situation comes to light," Hardin told ESPN.
Busch, who is currently in Arizona, has not been charged.
