The Red Wings recalled Witkowski from AHL Grand Rapids to the taxi squad Friday.
The 31-year-old had been in the AHL since Sunday. Witkowski hasn't yet appeared in an NHL game this season and doesn't seem likely to, barring injuries and/or COVID-19 issues in Detroit's defense corps.
