Montreal claimed Kovacevic off waivers from Winnipeg on Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Kovacevic could be land a spot with the Canadiens out of training camp after it appeared as though he would be starting the year in the minors. He skated in four games with the Jets last season.
