Top Cam Whitmore News

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Nearing return

Coach Ime Udoka said Whitmore (knee), who remains out Wednesday against the Thunder, is right on track with his three-week rehab timeline and is getting closer to a return, Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports.

The red-hot Rockets have won nine straight and are vying for a spot in the Play-In Tournament, so Whitmore's potential return is noteworthy, though it's unclear if Alperen Sengun (ankle/knee) would be back if Houston makes a postseason run. Whitmore hasn't played since March 10 and is due back in early April, barring a setback. Before his absence, the rookie had played 20-plus minutes in seven of his last 10 appearances, averaging 12.6 points and 4.5 rebounds during that stretch.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Out for three weeks

Coach Ime Udoka said Tuesday that Whitmore (knee) will miss roughly three weeks, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Whitmore has already been ruled out for Tuesday's contest due to a right knee sprain and is now set to miss an extended period. In his absence, Amen Thompson and Jae'Sean Tate are candidates to receive increased playing time. Whitmore could still return before the end of the regular season on April 14, but the Rockets may not rush him back if they continue to fall in the standings without Alperen Sengun (ankle/knee).

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Out with knee sprain

Whitmore has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Spurs due to a right knee sprain.

The severity of the injury remains unclear, but the rookie had been sharp since the All-Star break, as he averaged 12.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in 20.3 minutes over his last 10 appearances. With Whitmore sidelined, the Rockets could feed more minutes to rookie Amen Thompson and reopen a spot in the rotation for Jae'Sean Tate.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Leads bench in scoring in loss

Whitmore closed with 17 points (7-15 FG, 3-7 3Pt), two rebounds and one assist in 24 minutes during Wednesday's 122-116 loss to the Clippers.

Whitmore led all bench players in Wednesday's contest in scoring while ending as one of five Rockets players with 15 or more points in a losing effort. Whitmore, who connected on a trio of threes over a bench-leading minute total, has recorded at least 15 points in 12 games this year.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Big night from second unit

Whitmore recorded 19 points (9-16 FG, 1-4 3Pt), eight rebounds, one assist and one steal in 20 minutes off the bench during Tuesday's 114-101 win over the Spurs.

The 19-year-old continues to look like a steal as the 20th overall pick in the 2023 Draft. Whitmore has scored in double digits in five of seven games since the All-Star break, averaging 12.3 points, 4.4 boards and 1.0 threes in 19.3 minutes a contest, although his offensive game remains a work in progress -- he's shooting just 21.2 percent (7-for-33) from three-point range during that time.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Contributes off bench Thursday

Whitmore chipped in 14 points (5-14 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds and one block across 27 minutes during Thursday's 110-105 loss to Phoenix.

Whitmore might have needed 14 shots to score 14 points, but other than that, he provided a spark off the bench and looked active on the glass, ending just two away from notching a double-double. The rookie out of Villanova continues to improve, with four double-digit point appearances across his last five.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Posts 13 points in return

Whitmore (ankle) recorded 13 points (5-11 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 1-3 FT), four rebounds and two blocks across 24 minutes Thursday in the Rockets' 127-105 loss to the Pelicans.

After practicing Wednesday without issue, Whitmore was cleared to return from a three-game absence coming out of the All-Star break. The rookie hit double figures in the scoring column for the ninth time in 10 games, but he may not be able to count on reaching 24 minutes regularly in competitive contests. Whitmore should at least have a firm hold on a rotation spot for the foreseeable future while Tari Eason (lower leg) faces a murky timeline for a return.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Will play Thursday

Whitmore (ankle) will play Thursday against New Orleans, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.

Whitmore missed the Rockets' final three games before the All-Star break due to an ankle injury but will be back in action after having a week to rest. Over his last five appearances, he's averaged 16.4 points and 2.4 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Remains out against Memphis

Whitmore (ankle) won't play in Wednesday's game versus the Grizzlies.

Whitmore's absence streak will extend to three games Wednesday due to a right ankle sprain despite coach Ime Udoka saying the rookie forward could return against Memphis. Whitmore's next chance to suit up will come after the All-Star break on Feb. 22 against New Orleans.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Out Monday, may play Wednesday

Whitmore (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Knicks, but head coach Ime Udoka said the rookie could return for Wednesday's game against Memphis, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.

Whitmore will miss his second consecutive game Monday due to a right ankle sprain, but the 19-year-old appears to be facing a short-term absence. Even if he doesn't show enough improvement in practice Tuesday to put himself on a path to play Wednesday, he should be ready to go coming out of the All-Star break. Whitmore has proven to be a strong per-minute scoring threat with averages of 17.4 points in 20.0 minutes per game over his last nine outings, but he's not providing much in other categories aside from rebounds (4.7 per game in that stretch) and three-pointers (2.7). Moreover, he may not have an avenue to see his minutes increase dramatically while starting forwards Dillon Brooks and Jabari Smith are both healthy.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Out again Monday

Whitmore (ankle) is out for Monday's game against the Knicks.

Whitmore will miss a second consecutive game due to a right ankle sprain. Amen Thompson, Jae'Sean Tate and Dillon Brooks could see increased minutes in Whitmore's absence.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Out with ankle sprain

Whitmore (ankle) will not play in Saturday's contest versus the Hawks, Ben DuBose of USA Today reports.

Whitmore sprained his right ankle in Friday's game against the Raptors after accumulating 17 points (5-9 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds and one assist in 18 minutes. It is no surprise that the Rockets have opted to rule him out on the second night of a back-to-back set. The rookie's next chance to suit up will come Monday against the Knicks. In his absence, Amen Thompson, Jae'Sean Tate and Dillon Brooks are all candidates to see slightly increased workloads.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Done for night with ankle sprain

Whitmore won't return to Friday's game against Toronto due to a right ankle sprain, Michael Grange of Sportsnet.ca reports. He finished with 17 points (5-9 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds and one assist in 18 minutes.

Despite coming off the bench Friday, Whitmore was leading the Rockets in scoring on the night before the ankle sprain ended his game early. Houston will finish up its back-to-back set Saturday with a matchup against the Hawks, and Whitmore's injury makes it unlikely he'll be available for that contest. Whitmore's potential absence Saturday could open up a spot in the rotation for Reggie Bullock, or perhaps result in players such as Aaron Holiday, Jeff Green and Jae'Sean Tate having higher minutes ceilings off the bench.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Career-best 25 points Friday

Whitmore closed with 25 points (10-17 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, one assist and two steals in 21 minutes during Friday's 135-106 win over the Raptors.

The Rockets took a 19-point leads into halftime and were able to empty their bench in the fourth quarter, giving Whitmore a chance to post the best scoring numbers of his young career -- topping the 24 points he scored just four games earlier. The rookie out of Villanova fell to Houston with the 20th pick in the 2023 Draft due to long-term health concerns, but as the season has gone on he's looked more and more like a steal. Over the last 13 games he's averaged 14.9 points, 5.1 boards and 2.2 threes over 21.8 minutes a contest.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Gets buckets in win

Whitmore ended with 20 points (7-12 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 4-6 FT) and six rebounds in 18 minutes during Monday's 135-119 victory over the Lakers.

Whitmore came out gunning, racking up 16 points in his first seven minutes of action while also having multiple threes rim out to take an even bigger night off the table. The 19-year-old is on the rise as a potent offensive threat for the Rockets, but he might struggle to surpass 20 minutes on a regular basis moving forward after Jabari Smith (ankle) returned from a four-game absence Monday.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Continues producing

Whitmore registered 19 points (6-16 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and one block in 29 minutes during Saturday's 106-104 loss to Brooklyn.

Whitmore co-led Houston in scoring Saturday, and the rookie has now canned 14 of his last 32 three-point attempts. Tari Eason (leg) is dealing with an extended absence, potentially as a stress fracture aggravation, and Jabari Smith's (ankle) return timetable remains unclear, so Whitmore's rest-of-season usage and outlook are trending up.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: First career double-double Friday

Whitmore totaled 24 points (9-18 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds and two assists over 20 minutes during Friday's 138-104 win over Charlotte.

Whitmore had a productive performance off the bench Friday. Not only did he register the first double-double of his young career, his points and rebounding output were both career highs for the rookie out of Villanova. Whitmore has established a rotational bench role for himself since the beginning of the new year and is averaging 11.9 points and 4.4 rebounds over 19.0 minutes per game in January.

  • Rockets' Cam Whitmore: Moves back to bench

Whitmore isn't in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Trail Blazers, Jackson Gatlin of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.

Jeff Green will replace Whitmore in the starting lineup Wednesday. Whitmore is averaging 11.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 19.7 minutes across his last five appearances coming off the bench.
