  • Sharks' Luke Kunin: Nets power-play marker

Kunin scored a power-play goal on three shots and added two hits in Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Ducks.

Kunin hadn't scored since the second game of the season before tallying in the second period Saturday. His longest point drought this season is three games, but his offense has been rather unimpressive in his first year with the Sharks. The 24-year-old has two goals, four assists, 31 shots on net, 32 hits, 30 PIM, 16 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating. He's played on the third line lately, and that's a role that seems best suited to his skill set.

  • Sharks' Luke Kunin: Provides assist Sunday

Kunin logged an assist and went plus-2 in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Flyers.

Kunin helped out on Nico Sturm's empty-net tally in the third period. Through eight contests, Kunin has been as advertised for the Sharks -- he has a goal, three assists, 17 hits, 10 PIM and 19 shots on net with a minus-5 rating. He's been a solid supporting member of the top six with a physical edge. As long as he doesn't slip down the lineup, Kunin could be useful in fantasy formats that don't feature plus-minus as a category.

  • Sharks' Luke Kunin: Gets look on top line

Kunin registered an assist, three hits, two blocked shots and two PIM in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Predators.

Kunin played on the top line and helped out on Tomas Hertl's first-period tally. The assist was Kunin's first point as a Shark after he produced 13 goals, nine helpers, 223 hits, 99 PIM and 125 shots on goal in 82 games with the Predators last season. He's seeing top-line minutes to begin 2022-23 -- he led all Sharks forwards with 21:23 of ice time Friday -- but he may just be keeping a seat warm for Alexander Barabanov (lower body), who is not with San Jose in Prague. Kunin's playing style is more suited to a bottom-six role, though it's possible the 24-year-old could have a breakout in a more advanced position.
