Slavin recorded one shot on goal to go along with two blocked shots in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Flyers. Slavin has had himself a nice six-game stretch, recording three assists and five shots on goal. The 29-year-old is playing heavy minutes -- he's averaging 21:14 of ice time over the last six contests. He should continue to skate on the first pairing alongside Brent Burns.... See More ... Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Breaks out of slump
Slavin registered an assist, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Lightning. Slavin stormed out of the gate with three goals and four assists through six October contests, but the subsequent eight-game stretch saw the top-pairing defenseman turn in nothing but box-score goose eggs for goals and assists. Oddly enough, only one of his eight points have taken place on home ice, and that was his shorthanded tally to cap off an Opening Night win against the Senators.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Continues to impress
Slavin scored a goal on four shots, dished an assist, blocked three shots and added two hits in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Avalanche. The Denver native produced a big game in his hometown, albeit in a losing effort for the visiting Hurricanes. Slavin's defensive prowess is well-documented, but he's opened this season with three goals and four assists over six contests. The 29-year-old has added 16 shots on net, 13 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating, showing consistent success defensively despite the Hurricanes giving up 30 goals through their first six games of the season. His career high in points is 42 in 79 outings during the 2021-22 campaign, so his scoring will likely dip eventually.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Draws two helpers
Slavin registered two assists, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 7-4 loss to the Kraken. Slavin earned his first multi-point effort of the season. He's been hot on offense with two shorthanded goals and three even-strength assists over five contests. The steady defenseman has also produced 10 blocked shots, 12 shots on goal and a plus-4 rating from his top-pairing role. His offense will likely eventually slow down, but he should remain a reliable producer in the defensive metrics.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Pots shorthanded goal
Slavin scored a shorthanded goal on four shots in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Sharks. Both of Slavin's tallies this season have come while killing a penalty. The defenseman gave the Hurricanes their first lead with his second-period marker. He's up to three points, 12 shots on net, eight blocked shots and a plus-2 rating through four contests overall. Slavin doesn't post the gaudiest scoring numbers, but he's a solid contributor in defensive statistics in a top-four role.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Adds assist Saturday
Slavin logged an assist, three blocked shots, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 6-5 shootout win over the Kings. Slavin has stood out even with the Hurricanes' crowded blue line so far. He has a shorthanded goal, an assist, a plus-3 rating, four shots on net and five blocked shots through two contests. He set up Brent Burns' opening tally in the first period. While Slavin sees next to nothing on the power play, his top-four role at even strength and the Hurricanes' strong offense should still allow him to produce respectable offense.... See More ... Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Says he's okay
Slavin (upper body) said he was okay after leaving Wednesday's Game 4 versus the Panthers in the first period, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports. Slavin's early exit likely didn't help the Hurricanes as they took a 4-3 loss, but he was available to talk to the media in the locker room following the loss. While his status might have been in doubt had the Hurricanes forced a Game 5, it's unlikely the injury will have any impact on his availability for 2023-24. He had six points over 15 playoff contests.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Tallies second goal of postseason
Slavin scored his second goal of the postseason during Thursday's 3-2 overtime win against the Devils. Slavin is known for his defensive prowess more than his offensive contributions. Yet, he has been contributing offensively during Carolina's second-round series. His assist in Thursday's game gives him assists in four straight games to go with his plus-9 rating over that stretch. He is not a risk-free play, but he has the potential to be a sneaky depth play right now when there are limited options available.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Chips in two points in Game 2
Slavin had a goal and an assist in Carolina's 4-3 overtime win over the Islanders in Game 2 on Wednesday. Slavin was quiet over his previous nine outings, contributing just two assists in that span. Over 76 regular-season contests, he had seven goals and 27 points, which was down from 42 points in 2021-22. Slavin played a key role Wednesday though, helping out on Paul Stastny's marker early in the first period, and then finding the back of the net himself midway through the third to tie the game at 3-3.... Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Has two-point game Thursday
Slavin provided a goal and an assist in a 3-2 loss to Detroit on Thursday. Slavin's marker early in the second period put Carolina up 2-1, but the Hurricanes couldn't hold onto that lead. He's up to seven goals and 25 points in 68 contests this season, though that's still well behind his 2021-22 finish of 42 points. Slavin has two goals and five points over his last 12 outings.... Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Notches OT helper Saturday
Slavin assisted on the game-winning goal in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Flyers. The helper marked Slavin's seventh point in his last 11 games, but he's been far too inconsistent this season to have a chance of matching the career-high 42 points he notched last year. He still sees plenty of ice time (22:10 average TOI), but the addition of Brent Burns in the offseason has resulted in a reduction in Slavin's power-play minutes this year (0:09 vs. 1:22 last year), which caps Slavin's upside.... Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: On three-game point streak
Slavin had a goal and an assist in Carolina's 6-1 victory over the Coyotes on Friday. Slavin's marker was scored early in the second period and extended Carolina's lead to 3-0. He has four goals and 19 points in 54 contests this season. Slavin is on a three-game scoring streak with a goal and four points over that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Nabs assist Wednesday
Slavin provided an assist in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Golden Knights. Slavin helped out on a Jordan Staal goal in the third period. This was Slavin's second helper in his last two games after he went scoreless in six outings following his return from a lower-body injury. The 28-year-old defenseman is up to 17 points, a plus-17 rating, 89 shots on net and 83 blocked shots through 53 contests in what's been a down year offensively.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Not expected to play Wednesday
Slavin (lower body) isn't expected to play Wednesday versus Buffalo. Slavin also missed Carolina's previous five contests because of the injury. He has three goals and 15 points in 45 contests this season. If Slavin can't play Wednesday, then Dylan Coghlan will likely stay in the lineup for the sixth straight game.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Expected to sit again
Slavin (lower body) is not expected to play Tuesday versus Los Angeles, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Slavin took part in Tuesday's morning skate, rotating in and out with Brady Skjei and Brett Pesce. Following the session, coach Rod Brind'Amour mentioned that Slavin could be held out until the All-Star break to give the 28-year-old defender some additional time to recover. Carolina plays Wednesday in Buffalo before returning to action Feb. 11 against the Rangers. Slavin, who has already sat out the past four games, has 15 points, 74 shots on goal and 72 blocks in 45 contests this campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Not expected to play Sunday
Slavin (lower body) is doubtful for Sunday's contest against Boston, per Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer. Slavin's expected to sit for a fourth consecutive game due to the lower-body injury he suffered Jan. 19. The 28-year-old defenseman has three goals, 12 assists and a plus-15 rating through 45 games this year. Dylan Coghlan will remain in the lineup in Slavin's absence, with Jalen Chatfield playing alongside Brett Burns on Carolina's second pairing.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Questionable for Sunday
Slavin (lower body) is questionable for Sunday's game versus Boston despite practicing Saturday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Coach Rod Brind'Amour isn't sure yet if Slavin will be available to return even though the 28-year-old defender "skated well" in Saturday's session. Slavin, who has sat out the past three games, has three goals, 15 points, 74 shots on net and 72 blocks in 45 contests this campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Will miss Friday's contest
Slavin (lower body) isn't expected to play Friday against San Jose, according to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site. Slavin is set to miss his third straight game. He has three goals and 15 points in 45 contests while averaging 22:26 of ice time this season. Dylan Coghlan is projected to remain in the lineup for a third straight game.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Doubtful for Wednesday
Slavin (lower body) is doubtful for Wednesday's contest against Dallas, Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal reports. Slavin, who sat out Saturday's win over the Islanders, did not take part in Tuesday's practice. If he is unavailable again, Jalen Chatfield will likely be paired with Brent Burns. Slavin has contributed 15 points in 45 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Out Saturday
Slavin will miss Saturday's game against the Islanders because of a lower-body injury. Slavin has three goals and 15 points in 45 contests this season. With Slavin unavailable, Dylan Coghlan, who was a healthy scratch Thursday against Minnesota, is projected to draw into the lineup.... See More ... See Less
