  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Excelling at AHL level

Campbell has a .935 save percentage in his last seven games with AHL Bakersfield, per Mark Spector of Sportsnet.

Edmonton general manager Ken Holland allowed Campbell to play right away after he was demoted by the Oilers on Nov. 8. "In hindsight, I think I made a mistake that when I sent him down. Probably should not have had him play right off the bat," Holland said. Campbell was 1-4-0 with a 4.49 GAA and a .873 save percentage before his demotion and started poorly in the AHL, losing four of his first five games while giving up 16 goals on 138 shots. He could return to the Oilers to back up Stuart Skinner and if he does, look for Calvin Pickard to return to the AHL.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Passes through waivers

Campbell went unclaimed off the waiver wire and was reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Wednesday.

It's an indication of how poorly Campbell has played this season that no other team was willing to put in a claim for the netminder. On the year, the backstop is 1-4-0 with a career-worst 4.49 GAA and .873 save percentage. No doubt Campbell's $5 million cap hit played a factor as well. In a corresponding move, Calvin Pickard has been added to the NHL roster.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Waived for AHL demotion

Campbell was placed on waivers Tuesday for the purpose of assignment to AHL Bakersfield.

In 41 games since signing a five-year, $25 million contract with the Oilers in July of 2022, Campbell has posted a 22-13-4 record with one shutout, a 3.53 GAA and an .886 save percentage. He has a registered a mark of 1-4-0 this campaign with a 4.50 GAA and an .873 save percentage through five appearances. Once Campbell is claimed or clears, Edmonton is expected to bring up netminder Calvin Pickard to serve as Stuart Skinner's backup.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Mauled by Predators

Campbell turned aside 29 shots in Saturday's 5-2 loss to Nashville.

The Oilers took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, but the game was essentially all Predators from there as the Edmonton defense crumbled in front of Campbell. It's the netminder's third straight loss, and through five appearances to begin the season he's saddled with a brutal 4.50 GAA and .873 save percentage to go along with his 1-4-0 record. Expect Stuart Skinner to be back between the pipes Monday in Vancouver, although the Oilers' issues won't be solved by a goalie switch.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Tending twine Saturday

Campbell will patrol the home crease Saturday against Nashville, according to Oilers play-by-by announcer Jack Michaels.

Campbell has surrendered 15 goals on 123 shots en route to a 1-3-0 start to the 2023-24 season. He has a 5-1-1 record with a 2.84 GAA and a .912 save percentage in seven career contests versus the Predators.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Struggles mightily in Twin Cities

Campbell allowed six goals on 30 shots in a 7-4 road loss against the Wild on Tuesday.

Campbell and the Oilers actually had a 3-2 lead heading into the third period, but the final 20 minutes was disastrous. The Wild notched three even-strength goals, a power-play goal and an empty-net score to pull away. Campbell has allowed four or more goals in three of his four assignments this season. The good news for the veteran netminder's fantasy managers is Stuart Skinner has performed even worse in limited action early on this season, so Campbell's hold on the No. 1 job in Edmonton appears to be secure for the time being.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Expected to guard road crease

Campbell is slated to start on the road versus Minnesota on Tuesday, according to Jessi Pierce of NHL.com.

Campbell has a 1-2-0 record, 3.65 GAA and .902 save percentage in three contests this season. He's coming off a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia on Thursday in which he stopped 28 of 32 shots. Campbell is 0-3-1 in four career outings against Minnesota, posting a 2.98 GAA and an .897 save percentage in that span.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Grounded by Flyers

Campbell made 22 saves in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Flyers.

The Edmonton defense was more at fault for the final score than Campbell, but it was still a disappointing result after the netminder's impressive 43-save performance in Nashville two nights earlier. Campbell is 1-2-0 with a .902 save percentage through three starts, and it could be Stuart Skinner's turn between the pipes Saturday against the Jets.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Gets Thursday's start

Campbell will defend the visiting crease versus the Flyers on Thursday, according to Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.

Campbell was sensational Tuesday, stopping 42 shots in a 6-1 road win in Nashville. The former Maple Leaf had a shaky start to his season, giving up four goals on 16 shots Opening Night in an 8-1 loss to Vancouver. Campbell is in a battle for the No. 1 job with Stuart Skinner, but Campbell has the edge in the early going, having started three of the first four games.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Excellent in victory

Campbell stopped 42 of 43 shots in the Oilers' 6-1 win over the Predators on Tuesday.

After allowing four goals and getting pulled in the season opener against Vancouver, Campbell bounced back in a huge way, allowing only a power-play goal to Thomas Novak in the second period. While he is expected to split the net with Stuart Skinner, performances like this could give the former Maple Leaf netminder the edge to being the starting goaltender. Thursday against Philadelphia could be the next time Campbell is between the pipes.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Tending twine in Nashville

Campbell will protect the road goal in Tuesday's game versus the Predators.

Campbell was chased from his season debut after allowing four goals on 16 shots versus the Canucks. He'll look to put in a bounce-back effort Tuesday against a Predators team that has scored eight times over three contests. With Campbell and Stuart Skinner both struggling early on, the starting job in Edmonton remains up for grabs.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Chased from opening game

Campbell stopped 12 of 16 shots in Wednesday's 8-1 loss to the Canucks.

Campbell was pulled after Brock Boeser finished a natural hat trick at 7:30 of the second period. Stuart Skinner didn't fare much better, posting an identical stat line with five extra minutes of playing time. A strong training camp allowed Campbell the chance to start the opener, but this kind of performance shows how tenuous his grip on the No. 1 job is. The 31-year-old struggled to a 3.41 GAA and an .888 save percentage over 36 games last season, though playing behind the Oilers' high-powered offense allowed him to earn 21 wins.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Set to start opener

Campbell was the first goalie to exit the ice Wednesday, indicating he'll get the starting nod on the road against Vancouver, Mark Spector of Sportsnet reports.

Campbell went 21-9-4 in 36 appearances for the Oilers last season, sporting a career-worst 3.41 GAA and .888 save percentage. While the netminder may be getting the Opening Night start, he is far from a lock to remain the preferred choice between the pipes moving forward and will have Stuart Skinner looming over his shoulder all season long.
