  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Shifts to LTIR

Muzzin (neck) was placed on long-term injured reserve Tuesday, per CapFriendly.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Injury more serious than thought

Muzzin (neck) may miss extended time, report Jonas Siegel of The Athletic.

After practice Wednesday, teammate Mitch Marner laid out some pretty sobering comments about Muzzin's condition: "Obviously for him it's just making sure that, if he does come back and play this year, or whatever happens, just make sure that he's going to be able to do whatever he wants to do the rest of his life and enjoy the time with his family, his kids." More to come, but this situation sounds career-threatening.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: No timetable for return

Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said Wednesday that there's no timetable for Muzzin's return from a neck injury, Dave McCarthy of NHL.com reports.

Keefe did add that Muzzin's issue isn't a reoccurrence of any head injury he previously sustained. Muzzin also attended a Leafs event Tuesday night and was in the team's facility Wednesday, which is encouraging. As previously reported though, teammate Mitch Marner made sobering remarks about Muzzin: "Obviously for him it's just making sure that, if he does come back and play this year, or whatever happens, just make sure that he's going to be able to do whatever he wants to do the rest of his life and enjoy the time with his family, his kids." With Muzzin sidelined, Rasmus Sandin was paired with Justin Holl during Wednesday's skate while Victor Mete practiced with Mark Giordano.

Muzzin (neck) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.

Now that he's on IR, Muzzin will miss Toronto's next two games at a minimum. With Muzzin on the shelf, look for Victor Mete or the recently recalled Filip Kral to enter the lineup Thursday versus Dallas.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Exits Monday's contest

Muzzin (neck) will not return to Monday's game against Arizona.

Muzzin logged 9:54 of ice time before suffering the injury. There should be an update on his status before Thursday's matchup with the Stars. The 33-year-old blueliner has one assist and eight shots on goal through four games.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Will play Saturday

Muzzin (back) will draw into Saturday's preseason game against Detroit, per Mark Masters of TSN.ca.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Nearing return to action

Muzzin (back) is expected to suit up against Detroit either Friday or Saturday, Joshua Kloke of The Athletic Toronto reports,

At a minimum, Muzzin should get at least one game before the starting of the regular season Oct. 12 versus Montreal. If Muzzin can stay healthy this season, he should be able to get back over the 20-point threshold after managing just 14 points in 2021-22.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Getting better

Muzzin (back) won't play in Monday's preseason game, but he is getting better, David Alter of Sports Illustrated reports.

Muzzin has been dealing with some back discomfort during training camp. Coach Sheldon Keefe said Sunday that the Leafs defenseman hasn't suffered any setbacks. Muzzin has been skating this week and practiced again Sunday.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Expected to practice Wednesday

Muzzin (back) is slated to return to practice Wednesday, David Alter of Sports Illustrated reports.

Considering Muzzin will just be returning to practice after a week on the sidelines, it seems unlikely he will be in the lineup to face Montreal on Wednesday. Still, the blueliner getting back on the ice should clear the way for him to be ready for Opening Night. If Muzzin can stay healthy, he should be in line to get back over the 20-point threshold after missing that mark last season.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Out this week due to back injury

Muzzin will not participate in the first week of camp due to back discomfort, reports Sports Illustrated.

He's due back next week, but this is somewhat concerning. Muzzin is a stalwart on the second pair and only played 47 games last season due to injury. The 33-year-old is an important pillar for the team and fantasy managers who want pucks to stay out of the Leafs' net.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Scores late in loss

Muzzin scored a goal and added two hits in Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Lightning in Game 4.

Muzzin beat Andrei Vasilevskiy from the point at 15:41 of the third period. While not a particularly high-scoring blueliner, Muzzin's already picked up two goals, one assist and a plus-6 rating through four playoff contests. He's added 18 hits and eight blocked shots, which is less surprising given his physical style of play.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Back Tuesday

Muzzin (undisclosed) will suit up versus Detroit on Tuesday, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.

Muzzin has been limited to just 45 games this year due to various injuries and will be hard-pressed to get over the 20-point threshold with just two contests remaining. Since joining the Leafs from the Kings during the 2018-19 campaign, Muzzin has been all but removed from a power-play role, limiting his fantasy value.

Muzzin (undisclosed) will not play Sunday against Washington, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Ruled out against Lightning

Muzzin (undisclosed) will remain on the shelf heading into Thursday's clash with Tampa Bay, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.

Muzzin is traveling with the Leafs for their three-game road trip, so he could be back in action sooner rather than later. In his last four outings, the 33-year-old defenseman has tallied one goal, one assist and 11 shots while averaging 18:42 of ice time. Once cleared to play, Muzzin figures to relegate Timothy Liljegren to a spot in the press box.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Remains unavailable against Flyers

Muzzin (undisclosed) will not be an option for Tuesday's clash with Philadelphia but will travel with the team for its upcoming three-game road trip, Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun reports.

The fact that Muzzin will make the trip is certainly a step in the right direction after the blueliner missed the previous two outings. Injuries have limited the Ontario native to just 45 games this year in which he recorded three goals, 11 assists and 98 hits. With Muzzin on the shelf, Timothy Liljegren will remain in the team's third pairing alongside Mark Giordano.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Will miss next two games

Muzzin (undisclosed) won't be available for Saturday's game against the Senators or Sunday's matchup with the Islanders, NHL.com's Dave McCarthye reports.

Muzzin's absence isn't related to the concussion that kept him sidelined from late February through early April, so he may not be facing a long-term absence this time around. Justin Holl will likely take Muzzin's spot in the lineup for Saturday's matchup with Ottawa.

  • Maple Leafs' Jake Muzzin: Activated off injured reserve

Muzzin (concussion) has been removed from injured reserve, per the NHL media site.

Muzzin's activation is the last step to clear the way for the defenseman to get into the lineup versus the Panthers on Tuesday. It will be the veteran's first game since Feb. 21 against the Canadiens, a stretch of 20 games on injured reserve due to his concussion. WIth Muzzin cleared to play, he will likely bump Timothy Liljegren from the lineup while Carl Dahlstrom will return to the minors.
