  • Colts' Alec Pierce: Held catchless in season finale

Pierce went without a reception on four targets in Saturday's 23-19 loss to the Texans.

Pierce was held without a catch for the second time this season in what has been an underwhelming campaign for the 23-year-old. In 17 games, the second-year wideout finished the season with 32 receptions for 514 yards and two touchdowns. Pierce remains under contract with the Colts through the 2025 season, so the speedster will look to continue to improve and grow in his role within the passing attack. The return of Anthony Richardson (shoulder) at quarterback in 2024 should help to make the offense more dynamic, boosting Pierce's big-play potential.

  • Colts' Alec Pierce: Makes sole target count

Pierce caught one pass for a 58-yard touchdown on one target in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Raiders.

Pierce's big-play ability downfield is nothing new, but as his target count from even this game illustrates, the Indianapolis offense just isn't built to feature regular target opportunities for Pierce. As the fastest Colts wideout, it's often Pierce who's stuck with running decoy routes far downfield, which helps buy cover for Michael Pittman and Josh Downs underneath. Usually defenses take appropriate precautions to keep Pierce from getting open downfield, but on his touchdown catch Sunday the Raiders made the mistake of leaving Pierce alone against the 5-foot-8 Amik Robertson, who had no means of defense against the 6-foot-3 Pierce. Until the Colts feature Pierce on a wider variety of routes, his game will likely remain boom-or-bust for fantasy purposes.

  • Colts' Alec Pierce: Quiet despite Pittman absence

Pierce brought in three of seven targets for 30 yards in the Colts' 29-10 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Despite the absence of Michael Pittman (concussion), Pierce was unable to capitalize on what tied for his highest target total of the campaign. Outside of his 3-100-1 line against the Titans in Week 13, Pierce has topped out at three receptions and 53 yards in terms of single-game highs in his 13 other contests. He could see more opportunity than usual again in Week 17 at home against the Raiders if Pittman is forced to miss that contest.

  • Colts' Alec Pierce: Could be more involved Sunday

Pierce could serve as the Colts' No. 1 receiver Sunday against the Falcons with Michael Pittman (concussion/shoulder) set to miss his first game of the season, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

Though Boyd specifically names Pierce as the top candidate to step in as the Colts' top wideout Sunday, rookie Josh Downs has also been a regular alongside Pierce and Pittman in three-receiver sets this season and should see an expanded profile in the passing game as well. Pierce and Downs may not face much competition for looks from quarterback Gardner Minshew, as none of the team's other receivers, tight ends or running backs have proven to be high-volume targets this season. Since Week 7, only one Colts pass catcher other than Pittman, Pierce or Downs has drawn six or more targets in a game (running back Zack Moss, eight targets in Week 14).

  • Colts' Alec Pierce: One reception in win

Pierce had one reception for 13 yards on five targets in Saturday's win over Pittsburgh.

Pierce once again had high usage by playing on 65 of the offense's 67 snaps and went on 34 routes, but he wasn't a huge factor in the offense. Indy's limited deep passing game has resulted in just two games where Pierce has amassed more than 50 yards receiving.
