Player Outlook
Wilson is back with the Dolphins again in 2023, and we'll see if he can be the best running back in Miami despite competition from Raheem Mostert and rookie De'Von Achane. In 2022, Wilson was acquired from San Francisco, and he performed well in eight games with 96 total touches for 486 total yards and four touchdowns. He scored at least 10 PPR points five times. Mostert, over that same span, had 98 total touches, 544 total yards and three touchdowns. But now Achane is in the mix, and this could be a frustrating backfield if everyone stays healthy. However, Wilson has struggled with injuries, and we'll see how this competition goes in camp. Most likely, Achane will get drafted first by Fantasy managers, followed by Wilson and then Mostert. It's not bad to take a flier on Wilson with a late-round pick in all leagues, and he could be the best running back in Miami in 2023.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Sleepers (Start/Sit)

I'm not expecting De'Von Achane (knee) to play in Week 13 at Washington, but that's the situation to monitor this week when it comes to Wilson. If Achane is out, then Wilson is worth using as a flex option in all leagues. He just had his best game of the season in Week 12 at the Jets with 11 carries for 56 yards and three catches for 17 yards on three targets, and hopefully he can build off that performance as he works in tandem with Raheem Mostert. The Commanders have allowed a running back to score at least 13.0 PPR points in seven games in a row, and there should be room for Mostert to be a top-10 running back in all leagues, with Wilson as a standout flex.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Week 13 Adds (RB Preview)

Wilson is a good stash just because of the injury history of Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane. If Achane misses Week 13 against Washington then Wilson would also be a good flex play. Wilson played a season-high 33% of the snaps in Week 12 and turned 14 touches into 73 yards and 10.3 PPR Fantasy points.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Week 13 Waiver Priority List

Wilson had his best game of the season in Week 12 at the Jets with 11 carries for 56 yards and three catches for 17 yards on three targets, but De'Von Achane (knee) was out. When Achane returns, which could be Week 13 at Washington, then the Dolphins will have a three-headed backfield with Wilson, Achane and Raheem Mostert, who remains the best running back in Miami. It will be tough for Wilson to help Fantasy managers if everyone is healthy since he's going to be third on the depth chart, but Achane is not a lock to play against the Commanders. If he's out in Week 13, then treat Wilson as a flex option in all leagues, and he's worth adding for 5-10 percent of your FAB.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Gets 14 touches with Achane out

Wilson rushed 11 times for 56 yards and caught all three of his targets for 17 yards in Friday's 34-13 win over the Jets. Wilson worked as the No. 2 running back behind Raheem Mostert, who rushed 20 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns. De'Von Achane (knee) was held out of this game but seems to have a good chance to return in Week 13 against the Commanders, which would push Wilson down to a third-string role.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Active Friday, likely as No. 2 back

Wilson is active and is expected to serve as the Dolphins' top backup running back behind starter Raheem Mostert in Friday's game against the Jets with De'Von Achane (knee) inactive for the contest. In Achane's return from injured reserve during the Dolphins' Week 11 win over the Raiders, Wilson found himself inactive while Miami went with Mostert, Achane and Salvon Ahmed as its three running backs. However, with Ahmed suffering a season-ending foot injury in that contest and with Achane now sidelined for at least the Week 12 game after tweaking his knee in the team's win over Las Vegas, Wilson will re-enter the Miami backfield mix. Mostert is still expected to see the majority of the snaps and touches at running back Week 12, but while he was available for Weeks 7 through 9 during Achane's stint on IR, Wilson averaged 2.3 carries and 2.3 targets per contest. Given that the Dolphins enter Friday's contest as heavy favorites, Wilson could be in store for more touches than usual if Miami is able to establish a comfortable lead early on.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Expected to play Week 12

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that he expects Wilson to play in Friday's game against the Jets, Daniel Oyefusi of The Miami Herald reports. Wilson was a healthy inactive in Miami's 20-13 win over the Raiders in Week 11, as the team welcomed De'Von Achane back from a knee injury. Per Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post, McDaniel mentioned Salvon Ahmed's special teams contributions as a reason that the team went with Ahmed over Wilson as the third running back behind Raheem Mostert and Achane. Ahmed (foot) has since been placed on injured reserve with a season-ending injury, while Achane (knee) is uncertain to play Friday. As a result, Wilson should have a role in team's running back rotation against the Jets behind Mostert, whose practice reps have been capped this week due to ankle and knee injuries.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Week 12 Adds (RB Preview)

If De'Von Achane is out there is a chance that Wilson sees 10-plus touches on Black Friday against the Jets. It's a bad matchup and Wilson hasn't been particularly good on limited touches this season, but this is how slim the pickings are at running back in Week 12.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Week 12 Waiver Priority List

De'Von Achane (knee) and Salvon Ahmed (undisclosed) were both banged up in Week 11 against Las Vegas, which could put Wilson back in the mix as the No. 2 running back for the Dolphins behind Raheem Mostert. Now, Achane and Ahmed could both play in Week 12 at the Jets on Black Friday, so keep that in mind before adding Wilson. And it's not like Wilson did much when active (he was a healthy scratch against the Raiders) with 6.8 PPR points or less in three games this year. But it's not a bad idea to stash Wilson just to see what develops, and Achane might have a hard time staying healthy to close out the year. Wilson is worth up to 5 percent of your FAB.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Healthy inactive for Week 11

Wilson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders. Wilson's status as a healthy inactive for Week 11 represents a steep fall for a player who averaged 4.9 yards per carry and scored six touchdowns in 16 games a season ago, but it likely speaks to the confidence the Dolphins have in the health of rookie De'Von Achane (knee), who will make his return from injured reserve Sunday. After the tandem of Achane and Raheem Mostert proved to be a lethal one through the first five weeks of the season while Wilson was on IR with an injury of his own, Wilson looks as though he could be an afterthought in the backfield rotation moving forward. In addition to Achane and Mostert, Salvon Ahmed is also active as the team's No. 3 back, though he's presumably getting the nod over Wilson due to his responsibilities on special teams.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Just one touch in debut

Wilson secured his only target for four yards during Sunday's 31-17 loss to the Eagles. He did not record a carry. Wilson was an afterthought behind both Raheem Mostert and Salvon Ahmed in his season debut. The veteran may simply still be rusty after having missed the first six games of the season due to multiple injuries, but fantasy managers will want to see him handle a notable workload before considering him a trustworthy lineup option, especially with a matchup against New England's stout defense coming in Week 8.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Three straight FPs but still on IR

Wilson (ribs/finger) was a full participant for a third consecutive practice Friday. Wilson practiced without limitations this week, and the Dolphins opened up a spot on their 53-man roster by moving fellow running back Chris Brooks (ankle) to injured reserve Friday, so all signs point to the former coming off injured reserve to suit up Sunday against the Eagles. Once he's officially activated, Wilson will likely leapfrog Salvon Ahmed as the primary backup to Raheem Mostert, at least until productive rookie De'Von Achane (knee) returns from his own IR stint.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Sit Him (Lineup Decisions)

First, you need to make sure Wilson plays this week; if he doesn't then Salvon Ahmed will take his place. But then you need to understand that the matchup will be tough for Wilson, then figure he will play around 20 snaps and maybe see 10 touches. There are a lot of must-start players in this game, but Wilson isn't one of them.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Not ready for Sunday

Wilson (ribs/finger) was not activated off injured reserve Saturday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. This was always going to be the likely conclusion after Wilson was listed as doubtful following Friday's final injury report. As a result, Raheem Mostert will be the main ball carrier in a tremendous matchup against the Panthers, with Salvon Ahmed figuring to be the next man up.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Sneaky Sleeper (Lineup Decisions)

Once it's clear that Wilson will play, the matchup combined with the Dolphins' approach to utilize multiple backs should put Wilson in position to have some good opportunities. Remember, Wilson's injury was to his abdomen, not his legs, so there might not be much of a limit on how much work he'll do (though it's unlikely he'll have a ton of touches). I'd take my chances with him over Samaje Perine, Jerick McKinnon and Antonio Gibson.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Sleepers (Start/Sit)

As of Wednesday afternoon, Wilson has yet to be activated off injured reserve with his rib injury, but it seems inevitable like that will happen prior to Week 6 with De'Von Achane (knee) now on IR. When active, Wilson will work in tandem with Raheem Mostert, who is a must-start Fantasy running back in all leagues, but Wilson has flex appeal in his first game back against the Panthers. Carolina is No. 2 in most Fantasy points allowed to running backs, and seven running backs have scored at least 10.8 PPR points against the Panthers this year, with nine total touchdowns scored. Wilson played eight games with the Dolphins in 2022, and he scored at least 10.6 PPR points in five of them. He has the chance to help Fantasy managers for at least the next four games with Achane now on IR.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Limited in first practice

Wilson (ribs/finger) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. Wilson practiced for the first time this season after he was designated for return from injured reserve earlier Wednesday. The transaction opens up a 21-day window for the Dolphins to evaluate him for a return to the 53-man roster, and Sunday's game against the Panthers marks the earliest opportunity for Wilson to potentially play. If activated ahead of the Week 6 matchup, Wilson would likely slide into the No. 2 running back role behind Raheem Mostert, with De'Von Achane (knee) headed for IR. After coming over to Miami in a midseason trade with San Francisco in 2022, Wilson averaged 4.7 yards per carry and accounted for four touchdowns in eight games with the Dolphins.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Practice window opens

The Dolphins designated Wilson (midsection/finger) for return from injured reserve Wednesday, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports. The transaction opens up a 21-day window for the Dolphins to evaluate Wilson in practice before deciding whether to add him to the 53-man roster or keep him on IR for the rest of the season. Wilson's return to practice Wednesday coincides with head coach Mike McDaniel's confirmation that rookie De'Von Achane (knee) will be placed on IR. Wilson spent the first five weeks of the season on IR while recovering from the pair of injuries, but if he turns in a strong week of practice, it's possible he could be activated ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Panthers. Whether the Dolphins opt to bring him back for Week 6 or at a later date, Wilson could settle in as the top complement to lead back Raheem Mostert while Achane is sidelined.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Stashes (RB Preview)

Wilson is expected to return to practice this week, though we have no reason to believe he'll be activated for Week 6. Assuming he's back before De'Von Achane I would expect both Wilson and Raheem Mostert to be startable when Wilson is active. He scored double-digit Fantasy points in five of six healthy games with the Dolphins in 2022.
... See More ... See Less
  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Week 6 Waiver Priority List

With De'Von Achane (knee) expected to miss some time, the Dolphins could replace him by activating Wilson (ribs) off IR. Raheem Mostert should remain the lead running back in Miami, but Wilson did well once he joined the Dolphins last year from San Francisco. In eight games in Miami in 2022, Wilson scored at least 10.6 PPR points in five of them. The Dolphins have been amazing with their ground game this season, mostly due to Achane's emergence in Week 3 against Denver, but Wilson could have some flex appeal playing in tandem with Mostert while Achane is out. Wilson is worth adding for 5-10 percent of your FAB. And in deeper leagues, you can take a flier on Salvon Ahmed (2 percent rostered) just in case Wilson isn't activated prior to Week 6.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Not practicing yet

Wilson (midsection) won't practice Wednesday and appears on track to remain out for the Dolphins' Week 5 game against the Giants, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. After being placed on injured reserve Aug. 31, Wilson is eligible to resume practicing this week, but the running back doesn't seem to have made enough progress in his recovery for the Dolphins to clear him for on-field reps. Whenever the Dolphins deem Wilson ready to practice, the team will then have up to 21 days to evaluate him for a return to the 53-man roster. With Raheem Mostert and rookie De'Von Achane excelling out of the backfield through the team's first four games, Miami has little reason to rush Wilson back if he's still less than 100 percent healthy.
