Player Outlook
There were times in 2022 when Tagovailoa looked like the best quarterback in Fantasy, and other times when it looked like he should never play football again. Tagovailoa had some impressive performances last season when healthy, scoring at least 29 Fantasy points in four games, including a 50-point outing in Week 2 at Baltimore. But multiple concussions limited Tagovailoa to 13 games, and there are many Fantasy managers who consider him an injury risk this season. The Dolphins are confident in Tagovailoa, who has been cleared to play, and he's worth drafting as a low-end starter in all leagues. He has an amazing receiving corps with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and Mike McDaniel allowed Tagovailoa to thrive in their first year together. You'll need to draft a second quarterback with Tagovailoa in one-quarterback leagues to cover yourself in case he gets hurt, but he has top-10 upside at his position. In one-quarterback leagues, Tagovailoa is worth drafting with a mid-round pick. In Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, expect Tagovailoa to be drafted no later than Round 4.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Elite efficiency in Week 13 win

Tagovailoa completed 18 of 24 passes for 280 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Dolphins' 45-15 win over the Commanders on Sunday. Tagovailoa and the rest of Miami's front-line players got a chance to take an early seat in the fourth quarter thanks to the expansive lead the fourth-year signal-caller played an integral part in forging. Playing against a Commanders secondary that had been victimized regularly by opposing air attacks, Tagovailoa executed an early aggressive game plan from head coach Mike McDaniel to near perfection, averaging 11.7 yards per attempt while connecting with Tyreek Hill for touchdown passes of 78 and 60 yards in the first and second quarters, respectively. Tagovailoa finished with an elite QB rating of 141.0 for the day, and he's now completed at least 70.0 percent of his passes in three straight games. Tagovailoa and his aerial weapons could be set up for another productive contest in a Week 14 home matchup against the vulnerable Titans secondary on Monday night, Dec. 11.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Top DFS Play

I don't want to get cute this week at QB. We have arguably the most explosive pass offense in the league facing arguably the worst pass defense in the league. This game doesn't have to be as hard as we make it sometimes.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Three turnovers, just one TD in win

Tagovailoa completed 21 of 30 passes for 243 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Friday's 34-13 win over the Jets. He added one rushing yard on two attempts and lost a fumble. Tagovailoa failed to connect with Tyreek Hill in the end zone on fourth down to end Miami's opening drive, but he found Hill for a seven-yard touchdown in the second quarter. That throw extended Tua's streak of games with a touchdown pass to 20 consecutive appearances, which gives him sole possession of second place in franchise history behind Dan Marino's 30-game streak in 1985-87. He let the Jets back into the game with a pick-six to cut Miami's lead to 10-6 in the final minute of the first half, only for Tim Boyle to return the favor on the final play before halftime, allowing the Dolphins to bleed clock with a run-heavy approach in the second half. Tagovailoa came up short of 250 passing yards for just the fourth time this season, but he'll have a nice opportunity to get back over that threshold in Week 13 against a Washington defense that just allowed 331 passing yards and four touchdowns to Dak Prescott on Thanksgiving.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

It's tough to sit Tagovailoa this week, but there are some things working against him. For starters, he's been bad on the road this season. After scoring 33.1 Fantasy points at the Chargers in Week 1, Tagovailoa has scored 16 Fantasy points or less in four-consecutive road games against New England, Buffalo, Philadelphia and Kansas City. The Jets also allow an average of just 16.7 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks and held Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert to under 17 Fantasy points this season. Now, Allen got the Jets for 28.3 Fantasy points in the rematch in Week 11, but this defense should make things tough on Tagovailoa. Most Fantasy managers aren't benching Tagovailoa this week, but just lower expectations for him on the road in this matchup.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Eclipses 300-yard mark in win

Tagovailoa completed 28 of 39 passes for 325 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Dolphins' 20-13 win over the Raiders on Sunday. He also rushed twice for six yards and lost a fumble. The Dolphins had more trouble than anticipated overall with the feisty Raiders, but Tagovailoa finished the game with another impressive stat line that included his fifth 300-yard effort and sixth multi-touchdown tally of the campaign. Tagovailoa lost star running back De'Von Achane (knee) early into the rookie's return from a four-game absence and also saw Tyreek Hill exit briefly with a hand injury before returning. While the final point total was a bit underwhelming, Tagovailoa's day certainly pleased fantasy managers and sends him into a Week 12 Black Friday afternoon divisional road clash against the Jets with plenty of momentum.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Can't solve KC defense

Tagovailoa completed 21 of 34 passes for 193 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 21-14 loss to Kansas City. Tagovailoa has been efficient for the entire season, though that disappeared against Kansas City as he managed only 5.7 yards per attempt. He remained relatively accurate, so his inefficiency ultimately came from his inability to push the ball down the field, illustrated by only one completion that went over 20 yards. Despite the slow performance, Tagovailoa did make a nice throw to Cedrick Wilson to connect for a 31-yard touchdown. The Dolphins will look to regroup on a Week 10 bye before a Week 11 matchup against the Raiders.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Eclipses 300-yard mark in win

Tagovailoa completed 30 of 45 passes for 324 yards with three touchdowns and one interception and added eight yards on six carries in the Dolphins' 31-17 win over the Patriots on Sunday. He was also charged with a lost fumble on a mishandled handoff to Raheem Mostert. Tagovailoa's day included a couple of minor blemishes in the pair of turnovers, but the fourth-year quarterback made up for it with another sharp performance. Tagovailoa started off hot with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill in the first quarter, and he followed it up with a one-yard scoring strike to Cedrick Wilson on a quick slant in the second quarter. Tagovailoa then put the finishing touches on the two-touchdown win by hitting Jaylen Waddle from 31 yards out for his final score of the day. Tagovailoa now has five games with multiple touchdown passes, with three of those coming in the last four games. The Dolphins next gear up for a Week 9 showdown with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Germany, during which Tagovailoa and the air attack should be busy.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Mixed results on SNF

Tagovailoa completed 23 of 32 pass attempts for 216 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 31-17 loss to the Eagles. Tagovailoa had a down game by the lofty standards he set in the six games leading up to Sunday's dud. The 25-year-old's only turnover came late in the fourth quarter as the Dolphins were trying to even the score, down 24-17. Tagovailoa was pressured to throw into coverage on third and long to keep the drive alive, resulting in an errant throw that was picked off for his sixth interception of the season, which helped contribute to Miami's third loss. In the quarterback's defense, this was a road game against a tough opponent looking to rebound from an ugly loss in Week 6. Tagovailoa will look to bounce back in his own right as the Dolphins attempt to get back into the win column against New England next Sunday.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Three touchdowns in easy win

Tagovailoa completed 21 of 31 passes for 262 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 42-21 win over Carolina. Tagovailoa recorded his second-fewest yards in a game this season, though that's more an indication of his excellent start to the year than a poor performance. He averaged 8.5 yards per attempt and managed his third game of the campaign with at least three touchdowns, which came from three, four and 41 yards away. In addition, Tagovailoa continued to show the ability to push the ball deep, as he completed two passes of more than 40 yards and four of greater than 20. He now has at least 249 yards and one touchdown in every contest heading into a Week 7 matchup against the Eagles.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Top DFS Play

There's no Allen, Mahomes, Jackson, or Herbert on the main slate. So in cash games I'll be looking to the captain of the best offense in football. The Panthers won't provide any resistance and the lack of De'Von Achane may mean a couple more passing touchdowns than we've seen the past two weeks.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Eclipses 300-yard mark in win

Tagovailoa completed 22 of 30 passes for 308 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Dolphins' 31-16 win over the Giants on Sunday. He also rushed twice for six yards. Tagovailoa uncharacteristically was guilty of a pair of miscues, with his first interception late in the second quarter going for a pick-six to give the Giants their first first half-points of the season. The fourth-year pro made up for it with his yardage total and pair of touchdown passes, which went for two and 69 yards to Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, respectively. Tagovailoa has now thrown for over 300 yards in three of his first five games of the campaign, and he'll draw another favorable matchup in Week 6 when the Panthers come to town.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Outperformed by Allen in loss

Tagovailoa completed 25 of 35 passes for 282 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Dolphins' 48-20 loss to the Bills on Sunday. He also rushed twice for seven yards, committed a fumble that he recovered and picked up a second loose ball. Tagovailoa and his high-octane arsenal of weapons appeared set to keep pace with an equally high-powered Bills offense early with a pair of scoring drives capped by De'Von Achane touchdown runs. However, Buffalo's attack ultimately overwhelmed Miami's defense, and Tagovailoa couldn't keep up while also taking four sacks and throwing a third-quarter interception in Dolphins territory when the game still was within reach. Tagovailoa naturally has the ability to bounce back from what was a somewhat subpar performance by his team's lofty standards, a goal he'll look to accomplish in a home date with the Giants in Week 5.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: QBs to Start

The Broncos so far have allowed 19.1 Fantasy points to Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 1 and 25.3 points to Sam Howell in Week 3. And now they get to face Tagovailoa and Miami's passing attack -- good luck. Tagovailoa didn't have his best game in Week 2 at New England with just 14.3 Fantasy points, but he scored 33.1 points in Week 1 at the Chargers and has proven capable of those types of performances on a weekly basis. He's also averaged 288.8 passing yards per game in his past five home outings going back to last year. I wouldn't be surprised if Tagovailoa is a top-five Fantasy quarterback once again in Week 3.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Modest output in win

Tagovailoa completed 21 of 30 pass attempts for 249 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 24-17 win over New England. Tagovailoa was held in check by a division opponent after going off for 466 yards and three scores against the Chargers last week. The 25-year-old connected with favorite target Tyreek Hill for an early touchdown, but the passing game gave way to Raheem Mostert (18-121-2) and Miami's running game in the second half to seal the victory. Tagovailoa may be without his second favorite target, Jaylen Waddle (head), next week after the wideout exited Sunday's contest to be evaluated for a concussion. Either way, Tua's fantasy managers are hoping for results closer to Week 1 when the Dolphins head home to host the Broncos next Sunday.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: QBs to Start

One of the reasons I loved Tagovailoa as the Start of the Week in Week 1 was because Fantasy managers didn't seem willing to trust him at the Chargers. When I wrote this story last week, he was only started in 54 percent of CBS Sports leagues. Now, after he went nuts against the Chargers for 33.1 Fantasy points, Fantasy managers are apparently still hesitant since he's just started in 69 percent of leagues as of Wednesday. I know it seems like a daunting matchup at New England, but Tagovailoa is actually 4-0 against Bill Belichick in his career. While he's healthy, he's a top-10 Fantasy quarterback in all leagues.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Sharp in preseason finale

Tagovailoa completed four of six passes for 67 yards and rushed once for no gain in the Dolphins' 31-18 preseason loss to the Jaguars on Saturday night. As expected, Tagovailoa made a relatively brief appearance and had highlights on both of the drives he was in for. The fourth-year pro led the Dolphins on an 11-play, 74-yard march on his second possession, one that culminated in a field goal. He'd also recorded his longest completion on his first pass, a 32-yard connection with Tyreek Hill on Miami's first play from scrimmage. The performance served as a fitting tune-up for Tagovailoa and the rest of the first-team offense, and the focus will now shift to a Week 1 road showdown against the Chargers on Sunday, Sept. 10.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Will play in preseason finale

Coach Mike McDaniel said Tagovailoa will play in the Dolphins' preseason finale against the Jaguars on Saturday, Tom D'Angelo of The Palm Beach Post reports. Tagovailoa will play "more than a series, less than a half," according to McDaniel. In the same breath, McDaniel praised Tagovailoa's offseason work, which recently drew criticism from ESPN on-air personality Ryan Clark. "I can say hard facts that I've seen with my own eyes and it's been top five on the team," McDaniel said about the QB's work ethic. "Every metric of strength that is measured he's shattered his previous highs and in some instances he's almost twice as strong with things. And that's a daily commitment that he hasn't wavered from. He's taken nutrition to another level. He's taken his commitment to what he's trying to do and really thought outside the box, and really, really worked at it. I couldn't be happier with the work that he's put in and what I've actually viewed from my own eyes."

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Not slated to play Friday

Tagovailoa is not in line to see action in Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. Wolfe also indicates that Atlanta signal caller Desmond Ridder is not slated to play in the contest. In Tagovailoa's anticipated absence, Skylar Thompson and Mike White are available to handle Miami's QB reps Friday.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Bulked up for Year 4

Tagovailoa has added noticeable size and strength during Miami's offseason training program, David Furones of the Orlando Sentinel reports. Tagovailoa's mindset is on improvement entering Year 4, as his offseason has featured not only strength training but also techniques to avoid future concussions and practice with a helmet camera to put him more in sync with coaches. Last year Tagovailoa proved an ability to thrive in coach Mike McDaniel's scheme, at least when healthy, but concussion issues limited him to just 13 appearances. Now with another offseason of familiarity with McDaniel's system, plus increased chemistry with star wideouts Tyreek Hill (undisclosed) and Jaylen Waddle, Tagovailoa should be viewed as a high-upside option in 2023 fantasy drafts after the top options at his position are off the board.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Optimistic about avoiding concussions

Tagovailoa said Wednesday that he considered retirement this offseason but instead decided to prioritize training that may help him avoid future concussions, the Miami Herald reports. Tagovailoa noted that doctors told him he isn't at significant risk for chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and doesn't have any extra risk of suffering additional concussions. Head injuries limited him to 13 games last season in what was otherwise a breakout campaign, with Tagovailoa throwing 25 touchdowns to only eight interceptions while leading the league in yards per pass attempt (8.9). He'll have a similarly favorable setup this season under second-year head coach Mike McDaniel, with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle forming the fastest wideiout duo in the NFL and having a strong argument to be considered the best. The team's skill-position players look much the same as in 2022 minus tight end Mike Gesicki, whose role had been scaled back under McDaniel in any case.
