Player Outlook
We are not suggesting drafting the Packers as a starting defense on draft day. While they profile as a borderline top-12 defense, they open the year against the Lions and Commanders, two of the worst projected matchups for an opposing DST. Last year this defense did rank fourth in DST scoring, thanks to 14 fumble recoveries and a ball control offense that limited other teams' yardage total. They had an uneventful offseason on the defensive side of the ball, we just don't expect them to reproduce their Fantasy production from last year, particularly in their two opening games. You can expect them to be one of the top streaming suggestions in Week 3 when they face the Cleveland Browns.

  • Packers' Kalen King: Wearing cast on forearm

King (forearm) did not participate during minicamp Tuesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. King is evidently hurt enough that he needs to wear a cast on his right forearm, though it's not immediately clear what happened. Until he's ready to return to action, rookie seventh-rounder Micah Robinson could see higher leverage opportunities at practice.

  • Jaire Alexander: Release made official

Alexander (knee) was released by the Packers on Monday. The official move releasing Alexander comes shortly after the team informed the veteran cornerback of its intention to release him. Alexander and the Packers failed to agree to a reworked contract after he appeared in only seven games each of the past two regular seasons, failing to play up to the level expected when he signed a four-year, $84 million contract in 2022. Once he demonstrates that his knee is healthy, the 28-year-old cornerback will likely have a robust market in free agency.

  • Packers' Jaire Alexander: In line to be released

The Packers informed Alexander (knee) on Monday that he will be released, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. Green Bay will save roughly $17.1 million of the $24.6 million cap hit Alexander carries for the 2025 season by designating him a post-June 1 cut, per OverTheCap.com. The 2018 first-round pick had skipped all in-person, voluntary workouts with the Packers to this point in the offseason, though Demovsky reports that Alexander planned to report for mandatory minicamp. One of the league's best cornerbacks when he's healthy, injuries limited Alexander to just seven regular-season appearances in both 2023 and 2024. The combination of health concerns and the two years remaining on Alexander's four-year, $84 million contract evidently made it impossible for Green Bay to find a trade partner for the two-time Pro Bowler. The Packers reportedly recently offered Alexander a revised deal, but with no agreement being reached, his release is an unsurprising outcome.

  • Jeremiah Martin: Waived with injury settlement

Martin (undisclosed) was waived from injured reserve with an injury settlement by the Packers on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The settlement allows the defensive end to play this season if he can find an opportunity with another team. Martin played his last collegiate season in 2022 with Washington and has not yet appeared in an NFL regular-season game.

  • Jeremiah Martin: Waived by Green Bay

Martin (undisclosed) was waived/injured by the Packers on Wednesday. The undrafted defensive end from Washington appears to have picked up an injury and will be placed on the Packers' injured reserve list if he goes unclaimed on waivers. Throughout his final 13 collegiate games, Martin recorded 41 total tackles, including 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass defended.

Barrett signed with the Raiders on Wednesday, Ryan Zuke of mlivenews.com reports. • Packers' Kalen King: Impressing at camp

King has looked "really, really good" throughout the Packers' offseason programs, Jason Wilde of Channel 3000 reports. King spent most of his rookie campaign on the Packers' practice squad, but he now appears to be making a push for the active roster ahead of the 2025 season. The second-year corner has played in the slot and on the outside, providing Green Bay with much-needed secondary depth during offseason programs. If King continues to impresses the Packers' staff, he'll likely earn a spot on the 53-man roster as a depth piece in the cornerback room.

  • Packers' Quay Walker: Fifth-year option declined by team

Walker had his fifth-year option declined by the Packers on Thursday, though the team still wants to work out an extension, Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports. The 2022 first-round pick has recorded 121 (75 solo), 118 (59 solo) and 102 (72 solo) tackles across his three pro regular seasons, respectively, leading Green Bay in the category each year. Walker did miss seven combined games due to injuries the last two seasons, including three with an ankle issue and one with a concussion in 2024. Despite those injuries, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst called Walker "really impactful," "a great leader" and a player the team "would love to have" around "for longer than just a couple years," per Demovsky.

  • Packers' Devonte Wyatt: Option picked up by Green Bay

The Packers exercised Wyatt's (lower leg) fifth-year option Wednesday, Christian Kirby of Sports Illustrated reports. The 2022 first-round pick from Georgia will remain in Green Bay through the 2026 season after the team exercised his option Wednesday. Wyatt has been one of the Packers' top pass-rushers over the past two seasons, recording 59 total tackles, including 10.5 sacks, across 31 regular-season games. Now recovered from the lower leg injury he sustained in last year's wild-card loss to the Eagles, Wyatt is expected to serve as one of the Packers' starting defensive linemen in 2025.

  • Packers' Jaire Alexander: Could remain in Green Bay

Alexander (knee) could still play for the Packers in 2025, though a trade or release also remain possible outcomes, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. Alexander is participating in Green Bay's voluntary offseason program, and the team's only addition at cornerback in the 2025 NFL Draft was Michigan's Micah Robinson, taken in the seventh round. Following the draft, however, general manager Brian Gutekunst said there were "no updates" on Alexander's status, per Demovsky. The two-time Pro Bowler has been limited the last two seasons due to injuries and is currently working his way back from surgery to address a right PCL tear, and he has two years remaining on his current contract. While all options remain on the table, a reconciliation between both sides might be the best outcome for Green Bay based on the team's current roster.

  • Packers' Zayne Anderson: Returning to Green Bay

Anderson signed his exclusive rights free-agent tender with the Packers on Monday, Zach Kruse of USA Today reports. Anderson is set to return to Green Bay where he racked up 16 tackles (13 solo) and an interception in 16 games during the 2024 campaign. The 28-year-old will likely serve as one of team's top backup safety options behind Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams and can contribute on special teams as well.

  • Packers' Jaire Alexander: Participating in offseason program

Alexander (knee) participated in the Packers' virtual offseason program this past week, Wes Hodkiewicz of the team's official site reports. There were discussions within the Packers' organization during the offseason about trading Alexander, but the two-time Pro Bowl corner is still on Green Bay's roster following the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft. General manager Brian Gutekunst told reporters Saturday that Alexander "[is] still on our roster right now...we'll figure that out as we go along." Injuries have limited Alexander to 14 regular-season games over the past two years, and he's currently working through a knee injury that caused him to miss the Packers' final eight games of 2024 (including playoffs) and required surgery in late December.

  • Packers' Warren Brinson: Lands with Green Bay

The Packers selected Brinson in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 198th overall. Brinson was a four-star recruit and landed at Georgia alongside Jalen Carter on the defensive line. Like many defensive players with the Bulldogs, Brinson's stats are muted due to the depth of the team. However, he has a sturdy frame and should have a chance to make Green Bay's roster out of training camp, even if he doesn't have the opportunity to make an immediate impact.

  • Packers' Collin Oliver: Nabbed by Packers in Round 5

The Packers selected Oliver in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 159th overall. Oliver's 2024 season ended after just two games due to a foot injury, but he impressed at the combine, showcasing his athleticism and alleviating some concerns surrounding the foot. Oliver produced 73 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks in his lone full season as a starter with Oklahoma State in 2023. He doesn't have a ton of experience dropping into coverage and may serve as a rotational rusher early in his career, though a future as an off-ball linebacker may not be off the table either, depending on how defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley views him. He'll likely slot into a depth role and be a possible special teams contributor as a rookie.

  • Packers' Barryn Sorrell: Green Bay adds pass rusher

The Packers selected Sorrell in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 124th overall. Sorrell (6-foot-3, 256 pounds) was a quality three-year starter at Texas, where he produced workmanlike box scores (15.5 sacks, 24.5 tackles for loss in his final 43 games) and provided a steadying, consistent presence for the Longhorns. Sorrell's competent but modest production led to the assumption that he must lack athleticism, but Sorrell quietly posted very good numbers at the 2025 NFL Combine, with his speed (4.68-second 40), explosiveness (121-inch broad jump) and quickness (7.06-second three-cone drill) all grading safely above average. If Lukas Van Ness fails to claim the starting role opposite Rashan Gary, Sorrell might eventually make his way into Green Bay's starting lineup.

  • Packers' Kristian Welch: Going back to Green Bay

Welch signed with the Packers on Friday, Zach Kruse of USA Today reports. Welch previously played for Green Bay in 2023, when he appeared in 14 regular-season games exclusively as a special-teamer. The veteran linebacker saw time in 2024 with Baltimore and Denver, again working primarily in a special-teams role. Welch will likely reprise his status as a core special-teamer with the Packers next season but could log occasional defensive snaps as a depth linebacker.

He'll now compete to carve out a similar reserve role with Kansas City.

Ballentine played in Green Bay the last three years, and in 2024 he finished the regular season with six solo tackles and one forced fumble across 15 games while adding 21 kick return yards. He'll likely reprise his special teams role in Indianapolis, but Ballentine also adds veteran depth to the Colts' secondary.

The Vikings signed Wilson to a contract Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Wilson started 12 of his 17 regular-season appearances with Green Bay in 2024, recording 72 tackles (38 solo), including 2.0 sacks, two pass breakups, including one interception, and one forced fumble.
