Ten days into training camp, the Rams haven’t suffered any significant injuries.

Part of that is luck and part can be attributed to Jeff Fisher’s cautious approach. St. Louis’ new head coach isn’t rushing anyone back from minor injuries or hamstring tightness, preferring to give players an extra day or two even if they lose practice time.

"Over time, I think you have to learn patience," Fisher told the Post-Dispatch. "Coaches want players on the field every single play, and they want 'em back as soon as you can. You can make some mistakes by rushing somebody back.

"So make sure that the rehab is complete, the process is finished, give 'em a couple extra days. I think it helps, too, with confidence — the player's confidence. This training staff is excellent, obviously led by Reggie (Scott)."

Pro Bowl center Scott Wells, for example, still hasn’t joined practice as he recovers from arthroscopic knee surgery in the spring.

"He's doing well inside -- doing very well with the knee," Fisher told the paper. "He is taking every walk-through rep with us, so from a football standpoint he's not behind whatsoever. He's actually doing very well. So he's on pace and he'll be able to participate at some point in a preseason game."

WRs update: Rookie Brian Quick, who got some first-team reps Monday, made a nice sideline catch over corner Bradley Fletcher. Veteran Steve Smith has been the most consistent wideout; he has a knack for finding seams in the defense and has had very few drops.

Danario Alexander returned to practice after missing the first week with a hamstring problem. "He obviously has some talent," Fisher told the Post-Dispatch. "But we just have to keep him out there."

The former Missouri star has not lived up to his big-play potential due to chronic knee and leg problems.

Pead’s learning curve: Rookie RB Isaiah Pead admitted he’s made a few mental mistakes in every practice. But the coaching staff is determined to give him a big role, with good reason.

Look for Pead to get substantial work in Sunday’s preseason opener against the Colts.
