The Jaguars were off on Sunday, but they will hit the field again on Monday for their third day of training camp. Those who haven't been in camp have grabbed a lot of the early headlines, but there's still football being played in Jacksonville.

Here's a look at some news and notes from the first weekend of camp:

Session concerned about concussions: While most of the attention in camp has been on the notable absences of first-round pick WR Justin Blackmon and RB Maurice Jones-Drew, but LB Clint Session also has the team concerned.

Session watched practice as he continued to recover from two concussions suffered during the 2011 season. He told the Florida Times-Union he plans to see the field in 2012, but he also has oncerns about his future.

“This is something that could prevent my livelihood,” Session said. “This is how I make my money. This is how I’m known in the world. You definitely get a little scared, but you keep going. I think that [long-term effects from his concussion] are probably going to happen. I can’t control that. Probably too late for that right there.”

Defensive end battle: Jeremy Mincey is entrenched as the starter at one side at DE, but defensive coordinator Mel Tucker likes what he’s seen from veteran DEs Austen Lane and George Selvie in the battle for the other spot.

“Austen Lane has been lined up over there and George Selvie has lined up over there,” Tucker said. “We feel like the guys we have in camp can do the things we’re asking. It’s just a matter of competing, each guy competing and pushing each other.”

Tucker added second-round pick Andre Branch has the skillset the Jaguars are looking for at DE, but he won’t be entitled to anything despite being a high draft pick.

“Branch is going to get what he earns,” Tucker said. “There’s nothing set in stone. He does have the traits we’re looking for at that position. He’s shown that he’s tough and he’s coachable, so we’ll just take it one practice at a time.”

Knighton's thinner: DT Terrance Knighton showed up to camp weighing under 330 pounds for the first time in a while. That may sound heavy, but considering he pushed 370 pounds during the NFL lockout, he is slimmer.

Tucker said his lighter frame will pay off over the grind of a 16-game season.

“I think just as at any other position, you can change direction better, you have more range, stamina, balance and things like that,” he said.

Knighton started camp on the PUP listed with an eye injury sustained over the offseason, but is expected to be back in camp within a week or two.
