Vick left in the first quarter of Monday night’s preseason game against the Patriots after he was hit in the ribs by linebacker Jermaine Cunningham just as he released a long, incomplete pass. Vick was in obvious pain after the hit and had to be helped off the field and to the locker room, where X-rays showed no fractures.
However, Vick will have an MRI and a CT scan on Tuesday after the Eagles return to Philadelphia.
Now, he might not play again in the preseason. The Eagles play at Cleveland in just four days, so there was a good chance he wouldn’t have played much, if at all. And teams usually don’t play their starters in the fourth and final preseason game.
“If he doesn’t play again (in the preseason) I think he’ll be OK,’’ Reid said. “I’d like to see him play a little more, but he has enough experience. I think he’d be OK.”
Foles’ star shines bright again: While Vick sat, rookie quarterback Nick Foles impressed a national television audience with another strong performance. Foles was supposed to play most of the third quarter and all of the fourth, but he took advantage of his extra opportunity, completing 18 of 28 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns. “He seemed to play pretty good in there,’’ Reid said.
Reid shrugs off altercation with Jenkins: Reid couldn’t deny it, since the ESPN cameras caught it live, but he did his best to downplay it. Reid and defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins got into a heated argument on the sideline in the first half and it was shocking to see the usually calm Reid erupt like that. “This is an emotional game,’’ Reid said. “He was fired up and I was fired up. Those things happen. We talked about it afterward and we’re OK.” Reid wouldn’t reveal what the argument was about, but the defense had been playing poorly to that point and had been flagged for a few costly penalties.
