The Miami Dolphins coaching staff is not impressed with guard John Jerry.

"A player descending fast, and I was a fan of his in minicamp," offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said.

"You watch the tape on Jerry, he's a catastrophe on tape today," offensive line coach Jim Turner said.

That’s definitely not the way the third-year veteran hoped to be portrayed on this season’s third episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” The series chronicles building an NFL team. And Jerry is a player who should be emerging as a cornerstone for the Dolphins.

The third-round draft pick out of Mississippi has struggled to keep his 6-foot-5, 328-pound frame in shape, and his lack of attention to detail has the coaching staff scratching their heads. Jerry reportedly showed up to camp closer to 360 pounds.

As a result the team has had to put him through a rigorous training camp to get him into shape. This has led to Jerry vomiting on the practice field several times -- and a spot on the third team.

“That’s a TV show,’’ Jerry told Fox Sports Florida. “I understand that. I don’t get caught up in that. I’m not going to get mad at my coaches for anything, for something they’re saying about me.’’

But that’s not the only thing they are saying about him. Some of the coaches are holding out hope he still finds a way to put it all together.

“If he buys in,” Turner said, “he’ll be an All-Pro.”
