Tigers' Devin Sweet: Loses 40-man roster spot
The Tigers designated Sweet for assignment Monday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. He'll cede his spot on the 40-man roster to infield prospect Colt Keith, who signed a six-year extension with Detroit over the weekend. Sweet has already been in three different organizations this offseason, and he'll now go through the waiver process once again. Tigers' Devin Sweet: Goes to Tigers via waivers
The Tigers claimed Sweet off waivers from the Giants on Thursday. Sweet has done some bouncing around since last August, going from the Mariners to the Athletics to the Giants and now to the Tigers via waivers. The 27-year-old reliever held a 10.38 ERA in seven appearances during 2023 in his first taste of the majors, but he posted a 2.25 ERA and 57:11 K:BB over 44 frames in the minors last season. Giants' Devin Sweet: Claimed by San Francisco
Sweet was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. A 27-year-old reliever, Sweet walked as many as he struck out (six) while allowing 10 earned runs over 8.2 innings in the majors, split between stints with the Mariners and Athletics. He primarily pitched with Seattle's Double-A affiliate, logging a 1.54 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in 35 innings during that assignment. Sweet has minor-league options remaining.... See More ... Sweet has joined the Mariners in Chicago and could be recalled prior to the start of their series versus the White Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The Mariners' bullpen is in need of reinforcements after Emerson Hancock lasted just two innings Sunday in Houston before exiting with a shoulder injury. The Mariners purchased Sweet's contract from Double-A Arkansas on Wednesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
