Twins' Josh Winder: Activated and optioned
The Twins activated Winder (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Monday and optioned him to Triple-A St. Paul, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Winder has been out all season with a scapular stress fracture in his right shoulder, an injury which was first discovered last October. He posted a 6.39 ERA in 12.2 rehab innings, although that came with a 17:4 K:BB. Winder should get another shot with the Twins later this season, but for now he'll try to sharpen things up at St. Paul.

Twins' Josh Winder: Rehab moved to St. Paul
Winder (shoulder) is continuing his rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reported Tuesday.
Winder's rehab stint began with Low-A Fort Myers on April 30, and despite allowing four runs in 3.2 innings, he'll move up to St. Paul to continue his recovery. Even though he's set to return in late May or early June, Winder isn't guaranteed a big-league roster spot, so he'll likely need to make a strong case during his time at Triple-A to improve his chances.

Twins' Josh Winder: Starting rehab assignment

Winder is on the Twins' 60-day injured list due to a scapular stress fracture in his right shoulder which he suffered late last season. He will be eligible for activation in late May, but he isn't necessarily a given to be added to the major-league roster once he's deemed ready.

Twins' Josh Winder: Placed on 60-day IL
The Twins placed Winder (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list on Monday.
Winder's move to the IL is in correspondence with the Twins acquiring outfielder Manuel Margot, infielder Rayne Doncon and cash considerations from the Dodgers in exchange for Noah Miller. Winder has been slowly building his way back from a right scapula stress fracture he sustained late in 2023, and he will now be forced to sit out for the first portion of 2024. Before his injury last season, Winder appeared in 19 games in the majors and posted a 2-1 record with a 4.15 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB.

Twins' Josh Winder: Building up slowly in camp
Winder is behind the Twins' other pitchers for the start of spring training while he builds back up from a right scapula stress fracture he suffered late in the 2023 season, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Winder wasn't placed on the injured list at any point due to the stress fracture, which wasn't detected until he underwent an MRI in October, per Park. After taking some extra time to rest up during the offseason, Winder seems to have moved past the injury, but he was still limited to playing catch from 90 feet at Wednesday's workout while most other Twins relievers threw bullpen or live sessions.

Winder needed just 24 pitches to cruise through his three scoreless innings Monday. Over his last two appearances, he's fired six shutout frames, lowering his season ERA to 4.26 through 25.1 innings. It was Winder's first save of the year, and he should continue being used in a multi-inning relief role.

Winder made one appearance for the Twins back in late April but has spent the bulk of the year with St. Paul, holding a 6.52 ERA and 20:13 K:BB over 19.1 innings. The righty's full-time move to relief this season hasn't gone terribly well and he figures to be used in low-leverage situations.

Twins' Josh Winder: Optioned to Triple-A
Winder was optioned Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday. He gave up two runs and three hits with one walk and one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning in his only appearance this season with the Twins after he was activated from the injured list April 27.
Winder looked set to begin the season as Minnesota's long reliever but came down with a right shoulder injury during spring training. He didn't pitch well during his first outing in the majors, but this move more likely reflects the Twins wanting to rotate fresh pitchers into the bullpen. He'll likely be called back up to a long relief role again soon.

Twins' Josh Winder: Activated from injured list
Winder was activated from the 15-day injured list Thursday after he gave up three earned runs in 4.1 innings with four strikeouts and two walks during a rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul.
Winder looked set to begin the season as Minnesota's long reliever but came down with a right shoulder injury during spring training. Even though there's a spot open in the Minnesota rotation due to the elbow injury to Kenta Maeda, Winder will likely move into the long-relief role, with either Bailey Ober or Louie Varland likely to be called up to join the rotation.

Twins' Josh Winder: Shifts rehab to Triple-A
Winder (shoulder) made the fourth appearance of his rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A St. Paul, covering 1.1 innings while allowing two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out one.
Winder, who has been on the 15-day injured list all season with a sore right shoulder, made his first three appearances at Single-A Fort Myers before jumping to Triple-A. The right-hander will presumably stick with St. Paul through at least the weekend before the Twins determine whether he's fit to return from the IL. Thus far during his rehab assignment, Winder has worked out of the bullpen each time out while working between one and two frames, so the Twins appear to be preparing for him to fill a multi-inning relief role. The 26-year-old previously made 11 of his 15 appearances with the big club in 2022 as a starter, but the Twins' rotation depth appears to be in a much better spot this season.
