Grove pitched three innings in relief against the Cubs on Friday, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one batter. Grove has pitched more than an inning in three of his four appearances this season, with Friday's three-inning outing being his longest to date. He's mostly struggled in the early going, allowing at least three earned runs in all but one of his appearances thus far. Overall, Grove has an 11.74 ERA and 2.09 WHIP over 7.2 frames, and opponents are batting an astronomical .382 against him.... See More ... See Less

Dodgers' Michael Grove: Pegged for multi-inning relief role
Grove is expected to open the season in a multi-inning relief role for the Dodgers, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Gavin Stone beat out Grove for the fifth spot in the Dodgers' rotation. The team is expected to use a six-man rotation, or at least a variation of one, and Grove figures to be in the mix there, perhaps in a bulk relief role. The Dodgers could just mix-and-match in the sixth spot until Walker Buehler (elbow) and/or Emmet Sheehan (shoulder) are ready.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: In running for rotation spot
Grove and Gavin Stone will travel with the Dodgers on their season-opening trip to Korea, and both remain in contention to be the team's No. 5 starter, Fabian Ardaya of The Athleticreports. Emmet Sheehan was originally in the running for the fifth-starter spot as well, but he'll open the season on the injured list due to a shoulder injury. Both Grove and Stone were excellent in their most recent Cactus League outings, with Grove tossing 3.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts Saturday and Stone following one day later with a scoreless four-inning, five-strikeout effort. However, Stone has had the better overall spring, yielding just one run over 9.2 frames with a 9:1 K:BB while Grove has given up six earned runs over eight innings with an 11:4 K:BB. With that in mind, Stone probably has the upper hand in the battle to be Los Angeles' fifth starter, though manager Dave Roberts said Monday that a decision on that role has not yet been made, per Ardaya.... Dodgers' Michael Grove: On track for Saturday
Grove (lat) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list Saturday, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. That's the word from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who added that Grove will be given "every opportunity" to earn a spot in the team's postseason bullpen mix. Out since early August due to a right lat injury, the 26-year-old struck out four of the five batters he faced in his third and final rehab appearance Wednesday with Triple-A Oklahoma City.... Dodgers' Michael Grove: Could rejoin LA next week
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Grove (lat) could rejoin the team on its next homestand, per the Associated Press. Grove hasn't pitched for Los Angeles since Aug. 5, when he went 1.1 innings as an opener. The right-hander landed on the injured list the following day due to lat soreness and has made just one rehab appearance since, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three batters for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sept. 7. It's not clear what Grove has been doing to rehab since, but it appears that he could nonetheless return to the Dodgers, likely as a bullpen arm, as soon as Monday, when the team begins a seven-game homestand against Detroit and San Francisco.... Dodgers' Michael Grove: Functions as opener Saturday
Grove allowed a hit and struck out four without walking a batter over 1.1 scoreless innings Saturday versus the Padres. He did not factor in the decision. Grove was announced as the starter, but it ended up being more of an opener situation, with Ryan Yarbrough following him with 4.1 innings in bulk relief. That kind of arrangement may be the only way Grove sticks on the major-league roster in the near term. He was touched up for eight runs over six innings in his last start and still carries a 6.61 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 67:18 K:BB through 64 innings this season. While his strikeout numbers are solid, he'll likely be limited to low-leverage situations if he ends up as a traditional reliever going forward.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Grinds out six innings
Grove (2-3) allowed eight runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out 10 over six innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Reds. It wasn't pretty, as the Reds were ahead 3-0 after the first inning and 7-0 after the third before taking their foot off the gas. Grove hadn't pitched poorly in July, but this outing could be enough for him to lose his rotation spot to Lance Lynn, who is set to make his Dodgers debut Tuesday. Grove is at a 6.75 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 63:28 K:BB through 62.2 innings over 14 appearances (11 starts). It's unclear if Grove will be moved to the bullpen or optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City should he ultimately be taken out of the starting mix.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Strikes out six
Grove allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out six without walking a batter over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Blue Jays on Monday. Grove was decent aside from the eight hits, throwing 48 of 68 pitches for strikes in the short start. It was just the second time all season he's avoided walking a batter. The right-hander is now at a 6.19 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 53:17 K:BB through 56.2 innings over 13 appearances (10 starts). Grove should stick in the rotation for another turn at home over the weekend versus the Reds. He may eventually lose his major-league roster spot with Noah Syndergaard (finger) and Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) working back from injuries.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Notches second win
Grove (2-2) earned the win Tuesday, allowing a run on five hits and two walks over five innings against the Orioles. He struck out four. Grove was solid Tuesday, holding Baltimore to a single run on an Aaron Hicks double in the second inning. It's an encouraging outing for the 26-year-old right-hander, lowering his ERA to a still-subpar 6.40 with a 1.54 WHIP and 47:17 K:BB through 52 innings. Grove will likely stick in the Dodgers' rotation until Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) can return from the IL. He's lined up to face the Blue Jays at home in his next outing.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Slated to pitch Saturday
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Grove is expected to either start or cover the bulk of the innings out of the bullpen during Saturday's game against the Angels, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. The Dodgers' decision to add Triple-A Oklahoma City starter Landon Knack to the taxi squad Thursday created some uncertainty about whether Grove would pitch in the Los Angeles' final game before the All-Star break, but the right-hander looks like he'll make a second straight turn through the rotation after all. After being called up from Triple-A on Monday as a replacement for the injured Clayton Kershaw (shoulder), Grove proceeded to cover four innings in a starting role and gave up one run on five hits and two walks while taking a no-decision against the Pirates.... Dodgers' Michael Grove: Lasts four innings Monday
Grove allowed a run on five hits and two walks while striking out three over four innings in a no-decision versus the Pirates on Monday. Grove threw 79 pitches (46 strikes), but manager Dave Roberts clearly didn't want him going through the order a third time. This was Grove's 10th big-league outing (eighth start) of the season, and he's covered at least five innings in four of them. The right-hander owns a 7.02 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 37:14 K:BB through 41 innings. With Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) out until at least mid-July, but it's unclear if Grove or Gavin Stone will get the nod when this spot in the rotation comes up again Saturday versus the Angels.... Dodgers' Michael Grove: Could be recalled Monday
Grove will be recalled to start Monday against the Pirates if Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) is placed on the injured list, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Kershaw has dealt with left shoulder inflammation for several days, and the team continues to evaluate him ahead of Monday's series opener. Manager Dave Roberts said after Sunday's loss to the Royals that it's possible Kershaw lands on the IL, and he also said that Grove will take the mound to begin Monday's game if Kershaw is unavailable. Grove made five appearances for the major-league club in June and posted a 6.86 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 21 innings during that time.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Listed starter Wednesday
Grove will get the start Wednesday at Colorado, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. Grove has been serving as a swingman for Los Angeles this season while struggling to a 7.59 ERA across 32 innings. The 26-year-old right-hander makes for a risky fantasy streaming option in Wednesday night's tilt at Coors Field.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Confirmed to start Wednesday
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Grove will start for the Dodgers on Wednesday, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. Grove was on the practice squad and with the team in Los Angeles, and it comes as no surprise that the right-hander will make the start in the second contest of the three-game set against the Angels. In 30 innings, Grove has posted an 8.10 ERA and 1.60 WHIP, and he'd be an extremely risky streaming option against Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout and the rest of the Halos' lineup.... See More ... Dodgers' Michael Grove: Dispatched to Triple-A
The Dodgers optioned Grove to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. The transaction clears a spot on the 26-man active roster for right-hander Emmet Sheehan, who has been brought up from Oklahoma City to make his MLB debut versus the Giants on Friday. Grove will likely be up again with Los Angeles in the near future due to all the injuries in the team's rotation, but after turning in an 8.10 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 30 innings with the big club this season, he won't make for an especially reliable fantasy option.... Dodgers' Michael Grove: Confirmed for Saturday's start
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed Wednesday that Grove (groin) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Saturday versus the Yankees in Los Angeles, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. He'll be taking the rotation spot of Gavin Stone, who was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Grove has been on the shelf since April 21 with a right groin strain, but he's looked sharp over his two rehab starts with Oklahoma City. In his most recent outing for the Triple-A club this past Saturday, Grove struck out seven and issued no walks over 5.2 scoreless innings.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Good chance to start Saturday
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that it "makes a lot of sense" for Grove (groin) to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Saturday against the Yankees, though an official decision hasn't been made yet, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. Grove has been on the IL since April 21 with a groin strain, but he recently made a second rehab start at Triple-A Oklahoma City and appears to be ready to help an injury-riddled Dodgers rotation. The right-hander has struggled to an 8.44 ERA over his first four starts of the season with the big club, but the Dodgers still may view Grove as a better option at the back end of the rotation than Gavin Stone (14.40 ERA, 3.00 WHIP in three starts).... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Making rehab start with OKC
Grove (groin) will make a rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City in the coming days, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Grove has left St. Louis and will prepare for that rehab start with the Triple-A Dodgers. The right-hander has been on the shelf with a right groin strain, and he'll likely need to make one more rehab appearance before having a chance to join the Los Angeles pitching staff before the end of June.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Throws live batting practice
Grove (groin) threw live batting practice Tuesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Grove has been working out at the Dodgers' spring training complex in Arizona and might soon be cleared to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment. Sidelined since April 21 due to a right groin strain, the 26-year-old should be ready again for major-league action before the end of May.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Diagnosed with groin strain
Grove suffered a strain in his right groin during Thursday's start against the Cubs, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Grove was pulled in the fourth inning of his start after suffering an apparent lower-body injury. No formal move has been made yet, but it's likely that he'll end up on the injured list. The Dodgers have an off day Monday, so the team could opt to use a four-man rotation in the short term with both Ryan Pepiot (oblique) and Tony Gonsolin (ankle) still sidelined.... See More ...
