  • Giants' Jorge Guzman: Active for Double-A club

Triple-A Sacramento activated Guzman (elbow) from its injured list Thursday and assigned him to Double-A Richmond.

Guzman debuted for the Double-A club Friday, working one inning while giving up one earned run on one hit and one walk. The 26-year-old right-hander previously had a cup of coffee in the majors with the Marlins in 2020 but has been sidelined for most of the 2021 and 2022 seasons due to right elbow injuries.

  • Giants' Jorge Guzman: Rehab progresses to High-A

Guzman (elbow) made his most recent rehab appearance with High-A Eugene on July 8. He allowed two walks and struck out one in one-third of an inning versus Hillsboro.

Guzman has been rehabbing in the lower levels of the minors for the last month. He previously covered six innings in five appearances with Single-A San Jose, posting a 3.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and 6:5 K:BB. The right-hander will likely need a few more rehab appearances, though it's expected he'll ultimately land Triple-A Sacramento's bullpen once he's up to speed.

  • Giants' Jorge Guzman: Pitching in ACL

Guzman (elbow) struck out one and allowed one hit and no walks over two scoreless innings in a rehab outing Tuesday with the Giants' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate.

The appearance was Guzman's first in affiliated ball since August 2021 after he was sidelined to begin the current campaign while recovering from an elbow injury. The Giants signed Guzman to a two-year, minor-league deal in January with the expectation that he would spend most of the first season in rehab mode, so the organization is unlikely to rush him to its top affiliate in Sacramento. Once he's fully ramped up, Guzman will likely serve as a multi-inning relief option for the Triple-A club.

  • Giants' Jorge Guzman: Lands two-year deal with Giants

Guzman's (elbow) agency announced Jan. 15 via its personal Instagram account that the right-hander signed a two-year, minor-league contract with the Giants.

Guzman will move on to the fourth organization of his career after he signed with the Astros as a teenager in 2014 and then was traded to the Yankees and Marlins in 2016 and 2017, respectively. The 26-year-old appeared in two games in the big leagues in 2021, but Miami outrighted him off its 40-man roster in late October after he had been sidelined for the preceding two months with a right elbow injury. The Giants' decision to bring Guzman aboard on a two-year deal could hint that he may have undergone an offseason surgery on the elbow, putting his availability for the start of the 2022 season in question. San Francisco is unlikely to provide much clarity on Guzman's situation until the lockout ends and manager Gabe Kapler is available to speak to the media again.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Outrighted off 40-man roster

Guzman (elbow) has been reinstated from the 60-day injured list and outrighted off the 40-man roster, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Guzman had been out since mid-August with an elbow issue. Players can't remain on the injured list over the offseason, so the Marlins had to either add him to the 40-man roster or outright him. They went the latter route, perhaps unsurprisingly for a pitcher who has given up eight runs in just 2.2 career MLB innings.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Shifts to 60-day IL

Guzman (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The 25-year-old landed on the shelf with soreness with his right elbow in mid-August, so the move to the 60-day IL will bring an end to his 2021 campaign. Guzman missed the first half of the season while rehabbing an elbow issue and made only 11 appearances between Triple-A and the majors before suffering another injury.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Out with sore elbow

Guzman was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with right elbow soreness, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports.

Guzman was promoted from Triple-A Jacksonville last weekend and surrendered six runs over 1.2 frames in two appearances versus Atlanta this week. It's unclear how long he's expected to be sidelined.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Recalled from minors

The Marlins recalled Guzman from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Guzman was reinstated and optioned to Triple-A on Friday after being out since the end of spring training with an elbow injury. He pitched well on his rehab assignment, posting a 3.52 ERA and 20:9 K:BB in 15.1 innings of relief. He'll join the big-league bullpen and replace Zach Pop (finger) on the 26-man roster.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Reinstated, optioned to Triple-A

Guzman (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday and optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Guzman has been on a rehab stint with Jacksonville since late June, and he's allowed five earned runs on nine hits and four walks across 7.1 innings. He'll reclaim his spot on the 40-man roster with his Tuesday activation but will remain in Triple-A for the time being. The Marlins could look to stretch out Guzman in hopes of having him available to start big-league games later this season.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: On brink of rehab assignment

Guzman (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A New Orleans this week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Guzman has been working his way back from elbow inflammation that initially arose during spring training. He most recently threw approximately five innings in a simulated game last Thursday, which appears to have gone well, as he'll now head to New Orleans on a rehab stint. Guzman will likely stay in Triple-A when the rehab assignment expires, though where he ends up will likely depend on the state of the Miami starting rotation.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Set to start in sim game

Guzman (elbow) is scheduled to pitch around five innings in his start Thursday in a simulated game at the Marlins' extended spring training site, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The start could be Guzman's last at extended spring before he reports to an affiliate for the start of a rehab assignment. The 25-year-old right-hander currently occupies a spot on the Marlins' 60-day injured list, but he's unlikely to be a candidate to slot into the big-league rotation once reinstated. Instead, Guzman will likely be making regular starts for Triple-A Jacksonville whenever the Marlins deem him fully healthy.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Faces live hitters

Guzman (elbow) threw 20 pitches in a live batting practice session Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Guzman could face hitters in another live BP session or a simulated game at some point this week before the Marlins map out a rehab assignment for him. Given that he's been troubled by the elbow injury since early in spring training, Guzman may need to make multiple rehab starts in the lower minors before likely joining the Triple-A Jacksonville rotation once he's reinstated from the 60-day injured list.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Shifts to 60-day IL

Guzman (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The 25-year-old has been on the injured list since the start of the season with right elbow inflammation and doesn't appear particularly close to a return, so the move may not affect his return timeline. Guzman was throwing from 105 feet earlier in the week and will be eligible to return from the shelf at the end of May.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Increases throwing distance

Guzman (elbow) was cleared to increase his throwing distance to 105 feet this week, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Guzman looks to be at the same spot in his recovery as fellow rehabbing Marlins pitcher Sixto Sanchez (shoulder), who is throwing from the same distance. Both hurlers will likely need around 3-to-4 weeks to complete the ramp-up process before getting cleared for game action. Once he's activated from the 10-day injured list, Guzman will likely be optioned to the minors and assume a spot in Triple-A Jacksonville's rotation.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Able to throw again

Guzman (elbow) resumed throwing from 60 feet Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Guzman has been out since the start of the regular season with elbow inflammation. He'd advanced to bullpen session in mid-April before suffering a setback last week. He's throwing again now, though it remains to be seen when he'll return to game action.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Suffers setback

Guzman (elbow) recently suffered a setback and will not throw again until next week, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Guzman has been dealing with right elbow inflammation since early March. He began a throwing program around a week prior to the regular season beginning and had been throwing bullpen sessions at the team's alternate training site since early April. It's unclear how the setback will affect his recovery timeline.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Throwing bullpens

Guzman (elbow) has been throwing bullpen sessions at the Marlins' alternate training site, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Guzman has been on the 10-day injured list since March 29 due to right elbow inflammation, but he's progressed to mound work recently. The Marlins still don't have a timetable for Guzman's return, but the right-hander is expected to face live hitters as the next step in his recovery process.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Lands on injured list

Guzman (elbow) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 29.

The 25-year-old was sidelined with right elbow inflammation in early March and was unable to fully recover before the start of the season. Guzman made his big-league debut with one appearance last season and figures to join Triple-A Jacksonville for the start of the minor-league season in May once healthy.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Starts up throwing program

Marlins general manager Kim Ng said Monday that Guzman (elbow) recently made 25 throws off flat ground from 60 feet after beginning a throwing program, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Guzman is beginning the build-up process again after being shut down a little under two weeks ago with right elbow inflammation. Since Triple-A Jacksonville won't begin its season until May, Guzman could be ready to pitch in games by that time if he avoids any setbacks during his throwing program.

  • Marlins' Jorge Guzman: Should resume throwing soon

Guzman (elbow) is expected to begin a throwing program later this week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Guzman was shut down last week due to right elbow inflammation, but the 25-year-old doesn't look like he'll be in store for a lengthy absence. Since he'll still need at least a couple weeks to work his way through a throwing progression before being ready to face hitters, Guzman shouldn't be expected to make any further appearances during the Marlins' Grapefruit League schedule. He looks on track to be healthy in time for the start of Triple-A Jacksonville's season in May, however.
