The Pirates traded Wolf to the Padres on Tuesday in exchange for Kervin Pichardo. Wolf was DFA'd by the Pirates on Thursday, and he'll now head back to San Diego after being shipped to Pittsburgh at last season's trade deadline. Wolf made a spot start in the majors last season with the Padres, but the 24-year-old southpaw will likely spend most of his time at Triple-A El Paso in 2024.... See More ... See Less

Pirates' Jackson Wolf: Loses 40-man roster spot
The Pirates designated Wolf for assignment Thursday. Wolf was optioned to Double-A Altoona early in spring training, and he'll now be squeezed off the 40-man roster ahead of Opening Day. In addition to making a spot start with the Padres last season, Wolf turned in a 4.13 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across 124.1 frames at Double-A San Antonio.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jackson Wolf: Sent down to Double-A
Wolf was optioned to Double-A Altoona by the Pirates on Monday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Wolf struck out a pair in a scoreless inning in his lone appearance this spring. The tall left-hander skipped over the Triple-A level to make a spot start for the Padres last season before landing in Pittsburgh at the trade deadline. He'll head back to the Double-A level for more seasoning.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jackson Wolf: Dealt to Pittsburgh
Wolf, Alfonso Rivas and Estuar Suero were traded from the Padres to the Pirates on Tuesday in exchange for Rich Hill and Ji-Man Choi, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Wolf, a 6-foot-7 lefty, is extremely deceptive and boasts an above-average slider, but his fastball averaged 88.9 mph in his lone big-league start earlier this year. The 24-year-old prospect has never pitched at Triple-A, but he's logged a 4.08 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 105:22 K:BB in 88.1 innings across 18 starts this year at Double-A. The Pirates will likely continue developing him as a starter for now, but his below-average fastball velocity limits his long-term upside.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Jackson Wolf: Heads to minors after strong debut
The Padres optioned Wolf to Double-A San Antonio on Sunday. Wolf bypassed the Triple-A level to make his MLB debut Saturday, earning the win in the Padres' 14-3 victory over the Tigers while allowing three earned runs on six hits and one walk over five innings. Due to an off day this upcoming Thursday, the Padres look content to get by with a four-man rotation for the upcoming week, so Wolf will be the odd man out and will head back to the minors. Wolf or Ryan Weathers could be called up the next time the Padres require a fifth starter Aug. 1, assuming Michael Wacha (shoulder) isn't ready to return from the 15-day injured list by then.... Padres' Jackson Wolf: Called up for debut start
Wolf's contract was selected as expected Saturday ahead of his major-league debut against the Tigers. Wolf, a fourth-round pick in the 2021 Draft, doesn't come with a ton of prospect pedigree, but he does come with strong numbers at the Double-A level this season. In 17 starts, he owns a 3.39 ERA, striking out 31.3 percent of opposing batters while walking just 6.0 percent. The 6-foot-7 sidearmer will skip Triple-A altogether, though it remains to be seen if his funk and deception will continue to outweigh the fact that his fastball sits below 90 mph.... See More ... Padres' Jackson Wolf: MLB debut coming Saturday
Wolf will be called up to make his major-league debut in a start Saturday at Detroit, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. It had already been reported that Wolf was being promoted, but now he's officially locked in as the Padres' starter Saturday. The 24-year-old left-hander has posted a strong 3.39 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 104:20 K:BB in 85 innings (17 starts) this season with Double-A San Antonio and is probably worth an immediate look in fantasy against a Detroit team that ranks 28th in team OPS at .667. Wolf was a fourth-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of West Virginia University.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Jackson Wolf: Missing bats at Double-A
Wolf, 24, has a 4.09 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 36:4 K:BB over his last 22 innings (five starts) for Double-A San Antonio. The 6-foot-7 southpaw has given up some hard contact, with five balls leaving the yard in those 22 innings, but he is also racking up the strikeouts. Wolf's funky delivery and long extension can cause timing issues for hitters, as was evident in recent dominant outings against Corpus Christi and Northwest Arkansas.... See More ... See Less

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell5H agoThe Dodgers remain NL West favorites, and their lead in the standings is still comfortable. But the Padres have proven a formidable challenger through three early series against their division rivals. https://t.co/okU1oL7PgD

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell6H agoFinal: Padres 4, Dodgers 0 They've met once in Korea, once in L.A. and once in San Diego - and the Padres still haven't lost a series to the Dodgers this year. They won Sunday's rubber match behind 7 scoreless from Yu Darvish and solo homers from Tatis, Cronenworth and Bogaerts.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell6H agoWhat a turn through the rotation for the Padres. ELIAS says they're the first team since at least 1893 with four straight starts of at least five innings and two hits or fewer. Dylan Cease against the Cubs on Wednesday, then Michael King, Matt Waldron and Yu Darvish against LA.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell7H agoThat's seven scoreless from Yu Darvish, who struck out six and allowed only two hits. The Padres lead 4-0, headed to the bottom of the seventh.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell7H agoThe Padres scratch another run across on Luis Arraez's RBI groundout and lead 3-0. They've seen 95 pitches through four innings, nearly twice as many as the Dodgers' 48. Feels like these games have often gone the opposite way in recent years.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell8H agoYu Darvish pitching on Mother's Day reminds me that before the Padres acquired him, my mom legitimately thought his name was "Hugh Darvish" for a really long time. Anyway, YU Darvish has set down 12 straight Dodgers to open today's game. Still 2-0 Padres, mid-4.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell9H agoFernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth went back-to-back off Walker Buehler. Tatis' was a no-doubter. Cronenworth's was not a no-doubter -- enough doubt, in fact, for it to be ruled a double on the field before replay correctly overturned it. It's 2-0 Padres in the first.
