Young went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases in Friday's 10-6 win over Atlanta. He swiped his ninth and 10th bags of the season, the first coming after he beat out a potential double-play grounder in the third inning. Young raced through three levels of the minors this season before making his big-league debut and went 49-for-56 on the basepaths across all his stops, but his lack of power (just six homers in 143 games) and a .242/.312/.333 slash line through his first 112 plate appearances in the majors makes it unclear whether he'll be in the line for a starting role with the Nats in 2024.... Nationals' Jacob Young: Two hits and a steal in loss
Young went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two stolen bases in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers. Young continues to impress since being called up Aug. 26. The 23-year-old has recorded a hit in 11 straight games and has multiple hits in three of his last five. He's been batting leadoff against lefties and is now a perfect 4-of-4 in stolen base attempts. Young should continue to see a near everyday role down the final stretch of the season with the Nationals having nothing to play for.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Jacob Young: Thrives in leadoff spot
Young went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Tuesday's 11-5 loss to the Mets. With Lane Thomas (back) sidelined and lefty Jose Quintana on the mound for New York, Young got his first career start as the leadoff hitter and made the most of his opportunity. CJ Abrams will continue to hit atop the order against righties, but Young could become an intriguing DFS option if he keeps this assignment against future southpaws. The 24-year-old rookie has hit safely in seven straight games, batting .333 (8-for-24) over that stretch with three doubles, three runs, three RBI and two steals.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Jacob Young: Nabs first big-league steal
Young went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays. The 24-year-old has started three straight games in center field as the rebuilding Nationals look to the future, and Young collected his first hit and first steal in the majors in the seventh inning. His speed is legit, as the 2021 seventh-round pick swiped 39 bases in 46 attempts across three levels of the minors this year before his promotion to the big-league roster over the weekend, so Young could be a fantasy asset in that category down the stretch if he continues to see regular playing time.... Nationals' Jacob Young: Selected from Rochester
The Nationals selected Young's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. Young began the season with High-A Wilmington and quickly rose through the Nationals' farm system, slashing .305/.377/.418 across three levels. The 24-year-old will provide extra outfield depth while Stone Garrett (lower leg) moves to the 60-day injured list. Jeter Downs was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.... See More ...
