The Brewers recalled Junk from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday. With the Brewers down another starting pitcher following the news that Wade Miley (elbow) will need to undergo Tommy John surgery, Junk will come up from the minors to presumably fill the open spot in Milwaukee's rotation. His time in the majors will likely be brief, as Jakob Junis (shoulder/head) and DL Hall (knee) are both projected to return from the injured list within the next couple of weeks. Jared Koenig was optioned to Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less

Brewers' Janson Junk: Sent packing to Triple-A
The Brewers optioned Junk to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Junk had appeared headed overseas earlier this offseason, but he wound up sticking in the Brewers organization and will report to Nashville to begin the season. The 28-year-old should be part of Nashville's rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Janson Junk: Back in big leagues
Junk was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Sunday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Junk made his lone big-league appearance of the season in April and allowed five runs (four earned) over 4.2 frames in a start at Arizona. He also underwhelmed at Triple-A with a 4.18 ERA over 140 innings but will rejoin the big club for the final game of the regular season.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Janson Junk: Optioned out to Triple-A
Junk was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday. Junk was lit up for five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in a spot start Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. Colin Rea has been recalled in a corresponding move and is starting Thursday night in San Diego.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Janson Junk: Gives up five runs in spot start
Junk (0-1) took the loss Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings during a 7-3 loss to Arizona. He struck out two. Junk was just called up from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday and filled in for Brandon Woodruff, who was recently moved to the 15-day injured list with a shoulder injury. The young right-hander struggled early and often, but his biggest blemish came on a three-run homer by Lourdes Gurriel in the third, which gave Arizona a 4-0 lead. Junk figures to remain in the rotation for another turn or two, but he's currently not an attractive streaming option.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Janson Junk: Confirmed to start Wednesday
Brewers manager Craig Counsell confirmed after Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks that Junk will start the series finale in Arizona on Wednesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. As expected after he was called up from Triple-A Nashville earlier Tuesday, Junk will be filling the rotation spot of Brandon Woodruff (shoulder), who was moved to the 15-day injured list. Junk had turned in a pair of five-inning outings over his first two appearances at Nashville, striking out seven while allowing just eight baserunners.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Janson Junk: Called up, possibly starting
The Brewers recalled Junk from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, and he could be a candidate to start Wednesday's game in Arizona, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports. Unless he's needed out of the bullpen in Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Junk will be joining the rotation as a replacement for Brandon Woodruff, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. Over his first two outings at Nashville, Junk has turned in a 0.90 ERA and 0.80 WHIP across 10 innings. Junk should be reasonably stretched out for Wednesday's start, but his poor track record in a limited sample of big-league action with the Angels in 2021 and 2022 makes him a risky streaming option.... Brewers' Janson Junk: Heads to minor-league camp
Junk was optioned Monday to Triple-A Nashville by the Brewers, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Acquired by the Brewers in the Hunter Renfroe deal over the winter, Junk allowed six runs in 8.1 innings for the Angels prior to being dealt and spent most of last season at the Triple-A level. The right-hander will likely be an up-and-down option for the Brewers in the 2023 season.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Janson Junk: Returns to minors
Junk was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Junk made two starts in his latest stint with the team, tossing five scoreless innings against the Royals in late July before getting knocked around for six runs in 2.1 frames Thursday against Oakland. Mike Mayers had his contract selected to replace Junk on the roster.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Janson Junk: Roughed up by Athletics
Junk (1-1) allowed six earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two across 2.1 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Athletics. Junk got through two innings without any trouble, but he allowed six of the first seven batters he faced to reach base to begin the third frame to sour his outing quickly. He could remain in the rotation moving forward if the team opts for a six-man rotation, even after the Angles recently promoted Touki Toussaint and acquired Tucker Davidson at the trade deadline. Junk has pitched primarily at Triple-A Salt Late this season and has maintained an impressive 3.88 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 40:11 K:BB across 48.2 innings at the level.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Janson Junk: Draws another start
Junk is slated to start Thursday's game against the Athletics in Anaheim. With Michael Lorenzen (shoulder) on the injured list and Noah Syndergaard having recently been dealt to the Phillies, Junk looks as though he could have a decent amount of leash in the Angels' six-man rotation if he continues to perform well. The right-hander impressed in his first start of the season with the Halos last week in Kansas City, spinning five shutout innings and striking out eight while allowing four hits and one walk.... Angels' Janson Junk: Fans eight in first MLB win
Junk (1-0) picked up the win Wednesday, scattering four hits and a walk over five-plus scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the Royals. He struck out eight. In his fifth career big-league start and first of the year, Junk put together an impressive performance as he didn't allow a Kansas City baserunner past second base while setting a career high in Ks and racking up his first MLB win. The right-hander only got the hook after walking Whit Merrifield to begin the sixth inning. Junk hasn't posted huge strikeout numbers in the minors, but this effort was likely good enough to keep him in the rotation for now, especially if the Angels trade away veteran arms like Noah Syndergaard by the deadline.... Angels' Janson Junk: Called up prior to start
Junk was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. Junk has served exclusively as a starter in the minors this year, posting a 3.88 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 48.2 innings over 10 starts. He made four major-league starts in 2021 and recorded a 3.86 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 16.1 innings, and he'll make a spot start for the Angels during Wednesday's series finale in Kansas City.... Angels' Janson Junk: Draws spot start
Junk will be recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Wednesday's game against Kansas City, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Junk's last appearance for the Angels lasted just one inning, tossing a scoreless frame while striking out one May 28 against the Blue Jays. The right-hander owns a 3.88 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with a 40:11 K:BB across 48.2 innings at Triple-A so far in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Janson Junk: Returned to Triple-A
The Angels optioned Junk to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday. He was sent out to clear room on the 26-man active roster for lefty Jose Suarez, who is expected to be deployed as the Angels' primary pitcher in Sunday's game against the Mariners. Junk was up with the big club for just under a week and didn't make any appearances out of the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Janson Junk: Returns to minors
Junk was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday. Junk was recalled from Salt Lake on Saturday and delivered a scoreless frame, but he'll quickly head back to the minors. Jose Quijada (oblique) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Janson Junk: Joins big-league roster
Junk was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Junk made his major-league debut last season, posting a 3.86 ERA in four starts as his 2.8 percent walk rate largely overcame a poor 14.1 percent strikeout rate. He'll get another chance despite his unimpressive 4.94 ERA in five Triple-A starts this season, though he appears to be ticketed for a relief role, as the Angels don't have a gap in the rotation at the moment.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Janson Junk: Optioned to Triple-A
Junk was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. Junk made two appearances (one start) in Cactus League action this spring and allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four in five innings. He made four starts for the major-league club last year but will begin the 2022 campaign in the minors.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Janson Junk: Solid against Rangers
Junk allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks with five strikeouts through 4.1 innings, taking a no-decision in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Rangers. Junk entered play with as many strikeouts as home runs allowed (five of each) on the season. He flipped that ratio in his favor Wednesday night, striking out a career-high five batters while keeping the ball in the ballpark for all 4.1 of his innings. While he has had trouble with the homer in his three previous starts, his K:BB of 10:2 is pretty solid for a young pitcher. He'll take what he can from this cup of coffee in the majors and vie for a roster spot next season.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Janson Junk: Surrenders three runs Wednesday
Junk allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out one across four-plus innings in a no-decision versus Houston on Wednesday. The rookie fell behind early, as Yordan Alvarez tagged him for a first-inning two-run home run. Junk recovered with three consecutive scoreless frames, but he departed after giving up a pair of hits -- including a solo home run -- to begin the fifth. This was certainly a step back after the right-hander allowed just two combined earned runs in his first two starts, though he was far from dominant in either outing. He has registered an equal number of strikeouts (five) as home runs allowed through 12 big-league innings, which isn't exactly a ringing endorsement for his fantasy viability moving forward. Junk's next start is tentatively slated for Wednesday at Texas.... See More ... See Less
