  • Orioles' J.D. Davis: Inks minors deal with Baltimore

Davis agreed to a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Davis became a free agent last week after being released by the Yankees. He's slashed just .218/.293/.338 through 157 plate appearances at the big-league level this season with the Athletics and Yankees, and it's difficult to envision him earning a role with Baltimore unless the club loses a player or two to injury. Davis is expected to report to Triple-A Norfolk with his new organization.

  • J.D. Davis: Reaches free agency

The Yankees released Davis on Friday. Davis was removed from the Yankees' 40-man roster this past weekend and is now officially a free agent after clearing waivers. The 31-year-old has batted only .218/.293/.338 through 157 plate appearances this season, but with a career .764 OPS he should draw some interest on the open market.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Placed on outright waivers

The Yankees placed Davis on outright waivers Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Davis passed through waivers unclaimed after being DFA'd by the Yankees on Sunday. Assuming he clears waivers again, he will enter free agency and attempt to latch on with another team. The 31-year-old has slashed .218/.293/.338 through 157 plate appearances this season, but he went just 2-for-19 (.105) with one RBI and nine strikeouts over seven games during his time in New York.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Removed from 40-man roster

The Yankees designated Davis for assignment Sunday. The 31-year-old will lose his roster spot to create space for trade acquisition Jazz Chisholm. Davis played in just seven games after being acquired by the Yankees in late June and has a .631 OPS this season between his time in New York and Oakland.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Back from injured list

The Yankees activated Davis (illness) from the 10-day injured list Friday. Davis had battled a stomach bug prior to the All-Star break but is feeling well enough to suit up for the start of the second half. Ben Rice has been great against righties (.887 OPS) but hasn't done much versus lefties (.593 OPS), so the 31-year-old Davis will provide the Yankees with another option at first base against left-handed pitching.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Hits IL with stomach flu

The Yankees placed Davis on the 10-day injured list Friday due to the stomach flu. Davis hadn't appeared in a game since July 4 and is battling a stomach bug. The veteran infielder will be eligible for reinstatement shortly after the All-Star break, though he's only started four games since being acquired by the Yankees on June 23. Jorbit Vivas will take Davis' place on the active roster.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: IL move coming

The Yankees are expected to place Davis on the injured list Friday with an undisclosed injury, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports. It's unclear when Davis suffered the injury, but he has played in just five contests since being acquired by the Yankees on June 23. Davis will be eligible to return early in the second half, although a timeline for his return hasn't yet been provided by the club.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Late scratch Sunday

Davis was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Blue Jays. The 31-year-old probably is perfectly healthy, but Juan Soto's (hand) late addition to the starting nine will bump Davis from the lineup. He's gone 1-for-9 with a double, two walks, an RBI and a run in three games since being acquired by the Yankees last weekend.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Expected to platoon at first base

Davis is expected to be used in a platoon at first base with the Yankees, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports. Davis was traded to New York on Sunday after being designated for assignment by the Athletics earlier in the week. Manager Aaron Boone said that Davis will be used in a timeshare at first base with Ben Rice while Anthony Rizzo (arm) is unavailable, entering the lineup when the Yankees face left-handers. The 31-year-old has produced a .265 average with a .795 OPS over 37 plate appearances against southpaws this season.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Acquired by Yankees

The Yankees acquired Davis and cash considerations from the Athletics on Sunday in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans. After seeing his playing time steadily decrease, Davis was DFA'd by the Athletics on Monday. The Yankees will make room on the 40-man roster for Davis, marking the third organization he's been with since the start of spring training after the Athletics previously signed him following his release from the Giants in March. He appeared in 39 games for the Athletics before losing his roster spot, slashing .236/.304/.366 with four home runs and five RBI over 135 plate appearances. To make room for Davis on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred right-hander Nick Burdi (hip) to the 60-day injured list.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Designated for assignment

Davis was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Davis will now be available to be claimed off waivers and if he has no takers, Oakland is expected to release the 31-year-old. After being released by the Giants in March, Davis compiled a .236 average with four home runs, five RBI and 12 runs scored over 123 at-bats in 39 games with the Athletics this season.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: On base three times in loss

Davis went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run during a loss to the Twins in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday. Davis drew an increasingly rare start at third base and delivered his first multi-hit effort since May 24. The veteran has been displaced from the starting nine more often than not since late May, logging a total of just 17 plate appearances across six games since the calendar flipped to June. Davis is capable of playing both corner infield spots in addition to serving as the designated hitter, but younger assets Tyler Soderstrom, Abraham Toro and Brent Rooker are currently the preferred options at those respective positions.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Sitting again Friday

Davis is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Toronto. The righty-hitting Davis will sit for a second straight game as the Blue Jays send right-hander Chris Bassitt to the mound Friday. Over his last 15 games, Davis has slashed .250/.298/.386 with two home runs and three RBI over 44 at-bats. Tyler Soderstrom will start at first base and bat seventh in the series opener.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Back to bench Thursday

Davis is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners. Davis had started at first base in both of the Athletics' previous two matchups with right-handed pitchers, going 2-for-7 with a pair of singles. Though the Mariners are bringing another righty (Bryan Woo) to the hill for Thursday's series finale, Davis will cede his spot in the lineup to Tyler Soderstrom. The Athletics could elect to rotate Davis, Soderstrom and Aledmys Diaz at first base until one of the three begins performing well enough to take control of an everyday role.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Remains on bench

Davis is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup with Atlanta. Davis will remain on the bench for the fourth consecutive contest Saturday. He appears to have fallen out of favor as the primary option at first base with Oakland. Aledmys Diaz will draw the start first and bat eighth against Atlanta.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Sitting again

Davis is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta. Davis will miss a third consecutive game Friday -- each of which has come against right-handed pitching. Considering the 31-year-old has been significantly better against southpaws, he could slip into the short side of a platoon. Tyler Soderstrom will fill in at the cold corner and bat eighth.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Not in Thursday's lineup

Davis is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Tampa Bay. Davis is on the bench for a second straight day. The Rays are using a right-handed opener in Shawn Armstrong, so it's possible Davis enters mid-game if Tampa Bay eventually turns to a lefty. Davis has a .776 OPS against southpaws this season versus just a .581 OPS versus righties. Aledmys Diaz will start at first base Thursday.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Getting Wednesday off

Davis is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays. Davis will hit the bench after he went 1-for-6 at the dish while starting in both of the past two games. Tyler Soderstrom will step in for Davis at first base.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Getting breather Saturday

Davis is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros. He will begin Saturday's game on the bench after four consecutive starts. Davis recorded a hit in each of those four games, going 7-for-16 with two home runs and three RBI over that span. Brent Rooker will serve as the designated hitter Saturday while Tyler Soderstrom starts at first base against right-hander Spencer Arrighetti.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Racks up three hits in loss

Davis went 3-for-4 in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Astros. Davis has gone 7-for-16 with three RBI over his last four games, though that followed a rough 1-for-17 stretch over seven contests. The 31-year-old is slashing .229/.270/.381 with four home runs, five RBI and 11 runs scored over 31 games this season. Davis should continue to see steady playing time versus southpaws, but the Athletics' outfield has gotten even more crowded by the activation of Miguel Andujar (knee) and the promotion of Daz Cameron, and that could spill over into the designated hitter spot.
