  The Guardians recalled Parsons from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. After serving as the 27th man for the Guardians' doubleheader with the Yankees this past Saturday, Parsons was returned to Columbus a day later. He'll be eligible to rejoin the Guardians ahead of Wednesday's game in Boston because Cleveland placed fellow reliever Eli Morgan (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Parsons has covered at least two innings in all three of his MLB appearances this season between the Blue Jays and Guardians and should serve as a long reliever/mop-up man during his upcoming stint in the Cleveland bullpen.

Parsons and Nate Pearson appear to have won the final two spots in Toronto's Opening Day bullpen with the team optioning Zach Pop and Yariel Rodriguez to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday and with Jordan Romano (elbow) and Erik Swanson (forearm) set to go on the injured list Thursday. Though he made just one appearance for the big club in 2023 -- his first in the majors since 2019 -- Parsons was able to secure his place in the bullpen to begin the upcoming season after striking out eight batters while posting a 4.22 ERA over 10.2 innings in Grapefruit League play. He'll likely be ticketed for a low-leverage role.

The 31-year-old right-hander worked his longest outing of the spring, and it's perhaps not a coincidence it came just before Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reported that Blue Jays manager John Schneider was hinting that Kevin Gausman (shoulder) wouldn't be ready for Opening Day. Parsons likely isn't in the mix for a rotation spot, but Schneider is comfortable patching together a bullpen day when needed. Should the team decide none of the candidates for a temporary assignment as the fifth starter are up for the job, Parsons could win a spot on the 26-man roster as a long reliever instead.

Parsons got his biggest taste of major-league experience in 2019 as he logged 34.2 innings with the Braves and Rockies, but he stumbled to a 5.45 ERA with a 26:29 K:BB. The bulk of his work will likely come at the Triple-A level next season, where he's been more effective over the past two seasons with a 3.11 ERA and 130:46 K:BB.
