Player Outlook
Wes Parsons returned to MLB after spending the prior two seasons with the NC Dinos in the Korea Baseball Organization. He signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays in May, ostensibly to provide organizational depth. Parsons started 17 games for Triple-A Buffalo, recording a 4.52 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. He was rewarded for his efforts with a start against the Rays on the last day of the season. Parsons took one for the team, absorbing nine runs in four innings. He may latch on with another organization, but Parsons has never shown any indication that he can succeed at the major league level.

  • Guardians' Wes Parsons: Back in Columbus

The Guardians optioned Parsons to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday. Parsons was pushed off the big-league roster in order to make room for Pedro Avila, who was acquired from San Diego on Wednesday. Parsons has given up six earned runs in nine innings this season between the Guardians and Blue Jays, and he may return to Cleveland later in the year as a multi-inning relief option.

  • Guardians' Wes Parsons: Called up from Triple-A

The Guardians recalled Parsons from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. After serving as the 27th man for the Guardians' doubleheader with the Yankees this past Saturday, Parsons was returned to Columbus a day later. He'll be eligible to rejoin the Guardians ahead of Wednesday's game in Boston because Cleveland placed fellow reliever Eli Morgan (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Parsons has covered at least two innings in all three of his MLB appearances this season between the Blue Jays and Guardians and should serve as a long reliever/mop-up man during his upcoming stint in the Cleveland bullpen.

  • Guardians' Wes Parsons: Called up for doubleheader

The Guardians will recall Parsons from Triple-A Columbus and designate him as their 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader versus the Yankees, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Parsons will be available only for the second game of the twin bill and is expected to be returned to Columbus immediately after the doubleheader concludes. If Parsons pitches in Game 2, it would mark his Guardians debut after Cleveland acquired him from Toronto on Wednesday.

  • Guardians' Wes Parsons: Traded to Cleveland

The Guardians acquired Parsons from the Blue Jays on Wednesday in exchange for $250,000 in international bonus pool money. Toronto had recently designated Parsons for assignment, but he'll regain a spot on Cleveland's 40-man roster as he heads to his new organization. The Guardians have optioned Parsons to Triple-A Columbus, where he could either join the rotation or bullpen.

  • Blue Jays' Wes Parsons: DFA'd by Toronto

The Blue Jays designated Parsons for assignment Friday. The right-hander earned a place on Toronto's Opening Day roster but surrendered six runs over five frames in two appearances. Parsons had a 4.52 ERA in 17 starts at Triple-A Buffalo last season, so he seems unlikely to generate significant interest on waivers.

  • Blue Jays' Wes Parsons: Clinches roster spot

Manager John Schneider confirmed Wednesday that Parsons will be part of the Blue Jays' Opening Day bullpen, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports. Parsons and Nate Pearson appear to have won the final two spots in Toronto's Opening Day bullpen with the team optioning Zach Pop and Yariel Rodriguez to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday and with Jordan Romano (elbow) and Erik Swanson (forearm) set to go on the injured list Thursday. Though he made just one appearance for the big club in 2023 -- his first in the majors since 2019 -- Parsons was able to secure his place in the bullpen to begin the upcoming season after striking out eight batters while posting a 4.22 ERA over 10.2 innings in Grapefruit League play. He'll likely be ticketed for a low-leverage role.

  • Blue Jays' Wes Parsons: Gets stretched out Thursday

Parsons walked two and struck out one over three no-hit, scoreless innings of relief during Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins. The 31-year-old right-hander worked his longest outing of the spring, and it's perhaps not a coincidence it came just before Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reported that Blue Jays manager John Schneider was hinting that Kevin Gausman (shoulder) wouldn't be ready for Opening Day. Parsons likely isn't in the mix for a rotation spot, but Schneider is comfortable patching together a bullpen day when needed. Should the team decide none of the candidates for a temporary assignment as the fifth starter are up for the job, Parsons could win a spot on the 26-man roster as a long reliever instead.

  • Blue Jays' Wes Parsons: Hit hard in spot start

Parsons (0-1) took the loss Sunday against the Rays after allowing nine runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings. Parsons allowed a run in the opening frame before the Rays tagged him for seven more in the second, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Jonathan Aranda. He wound up surrendering a second home run to Manuel Margot in the fourth before his day was done. Parsons has struggled with every major league opportunity he's received since debuting in 2018 and did not fare well at Triple-A Buffalo this year either, posting a 4.52 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 98:45 K:BB over 81.2 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Wes Parsons: Called up to start Sunday

Parsons' contract was selected from Triple-A Buffalo and he will start Sunday's game against the Rays. This would have been Kevin Gausman's turn in the rotation, but the Jays will save him for the postseason. Parsons has logged five-plus innings in 11 of his last 14 starts at Triple-A, posting a 4.15 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 82 strikeouts in 69.1 innings over that stretch.

  • Rockies' Wes Parsons: Converting back to starting

Parsons will pitch as a starter this season after spending last season in a relief role, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. All of Parsons' 33 big-league appearances to date have come out of the bullpen. He hasn't had much success, struggling to a 5.67 ERA and an awful 29:32 K:BB. It's hard to see him making much of an impact in the Rockies' rotation this season, and harder still to see a pitcher with his shaky track record becoming a viable fantasy option at Coors Field.

  • Rockies' Wes Parsons: Re-signs with Rockies

Parsons signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Saturday, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. Parsons got his biggest taste of major-league experience in 2019 as he logged 34.2 innings with the Braves and Rockies, but he stumbled to a 5.45 ERA with a 26:29 K:BB. The bulk of his work will likely come at the Triple-A level next season, where he's been more effective over the past two seasons with a 3.11 ERA and 130:46 K:BB. The report doesn't explicitly say so, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the right-hander in major-league camp for spring training as a non-roster invitee.

  • Rockies' Wes Parsons: Bumped from 40-man roster

Parsons was designated for assignment by the Rockies on Wednesday. Parsons was claimed off waivers from the Braves in August and once again gets exposed to the waiver wire. The 27-year-old posted a 3.52 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 17 outings for Atlanta, but he struggled even more in Colorado with a 6.98 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in 15 appearances.

  • Rockies' Wes Parsons: Claimed by Rockies

Parsons was claimed off waivers by the Rockies on Monday. Parsons has spent most of the season with Triple-A Gwinnett, posting a 2.86 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 54:21 K:BB across 56.2 innings with the Stripers. The right-hander has made 17 appearances in the majors, compiling a 3.52 ERA despite his 1.57 WHIP and 12:13 K:BB. Scott Oberg (blood clot) was moved to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster for Parsons, who will report to Triple-A Albuquerque..

  • Braves' Wes Parsons: Returning to Triple-A

Parsons was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett following Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Royals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Parsons recorded one out and wasn't charged with any runs Tuesday, but he didn't pitch well as he allowed two inherited runners to score via two walks and a hit by pitch. The Braves are likely to call up another reliever to bolster their bullpen depth Wednesday.

  • Braves' Wes Parsons: Returns to majors

Parsons was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. The 26-year-old began 2019 with the major-league club, but was optioned after recording an ERA of 3.77 and a 12:11 K:BB over 14.1 innings. Since being optioned to Triple-A, he's amassed an ERA of 2.08 with a 41:15 K:BB over 43.1 innings. The right-hander should claim a place in the bullpen for now after Kyle Wright and Touki Toussaint were optioned to Triple-A in corresponding moves.

  • Braves' Wes Parsons: Heading back to minors

Parsons was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. Parsons will head back to the minors to free up a roster spot for Anthony Swarzak, who was acquired from the Mariners on Monday in exchange for Arodys Vizcaino (shoulder) and Jesse Biddle. During his most recent stint with the big club, Parsons allowed one run on four hits and three walks across three appearances (four innings).

  • Braves' Wes Parsons: Recalled from Triple-A

Parson was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Parsons started the season in Atlanta but was sent down after recording a poor 10:8 K:BB and a mediocre 4.35 ERA in 10.1 innings. He's back up after throwing seven scoreless innings for Gwinnett and will likely fill a low-leverage role.

  • Braves' Wes Parsons: Sent to Triple-A

Parsons was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. Parsons has a mediocre 4.35 ERA and a poor 10:8 K:BB in 10.1 frames of relief this season. He'll make way for new acquisition Jonny Venters, acquired in a trade from Oakland earlier in the day.

  • Braves' Wes Parsons: Walks piling up

Parsons walked three batters and allowed one run in two innings of relief during Thursday's loss to the Reds. After a promising start to the season, Parsons has had trouble finding the plate in recent outings. He's issued six free passes in 2.2 innings over his last three appearances, and his 4.35 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 10:8 K:BB through 10.1 frames on the year could have the right-hander on shaky ground the next time Atlanta needs to add fresh arms to its bullpen.

  • Braves' Wes Parsons: Notches first hold

Parsons struck out one in a scoreless inning of relief to record his first hold of the season in Sunday's win over the Marlins. Entering the game in the eighth inning with two on and none out to protect a one-run lead, Parsons needed only eight pitches to punch out the first batter he faced and then induce a double play. The 26-year-old is quickly earning manager Brian Snitker's trust, and Parsons' 6:1 K:BB through 5.1 innings suggests he's capable of handling a high-leverage set-up role for Atlanta.
