Player Outlook
In a time of statistical volatility, it sure is nice to be able to count on the volume Jose Ramirez produces despite the lack of supporting talent around him. Ramirez and Mike Trout lead all active players with five 20-20 seasons as Ramirez has achieved those marks in each of the past five full seasons while both accepting his walks and eschewing striking out. His 2022 and 2023 seasons by batting average and OBP were practically identical, but there was a significant dropoff in RBI as the lineup around Ramirez struggled to get runners into scoring position. Cleveland did not help that cause by focusing on slappy contact hitters and trading away Nolan Jones, but we digress. The 100-RBI plateau may be tough for Ramirez to get to once again if the lineup around him is not improved, but the volume is money in the bank as the hamate bone injury of 2019 is the only injury he has incurred in recent years.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Three homers in spring

Ramirez has gone 6-for-33 (.182) with three home runs over 12 Cactus League games. Ramirez is as much of a lock as anyone in the Guardians' lineup, with the third baseman expected to hit either second or third most of the time. While he hasn't hit well in spring, there's no reason to worry about his playing time -- he should be an everyday player between the hot corner and designated hitter.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Could bat second at times

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt has talked to Ramirez about being used at both the second and third spots in the lineup at times this season, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Ramirez has typically been the three-hole hitter for Cleveland, although he did bat second down the stretch last season. Andres Gimenez would seem to be the most likely candidate to hit second on days when Ramirez is batting third, while Josh Naylor should regularly follow Ramirez in the batting order.

He's hit well in September, batting .304 (28-for-92) with five stolen bases, three home runs and nine RBI over 23 games. For the season, the 31-year-old is up to a .281/.355/.481 slash line with 24 homers, 80 RBI, 86 runs scored, 27 stolen bases, 36 doubles and five triples through 151 contests.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Nabs steal Thursday

Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Orioles. Ramirez has multiple hits in seven of his last 14 games, going 20-for-56 (.357) while adding three home runs and five steals in that span as he continues to be a true five-category contributor. The third baseman is slashing .279/.354/.481 with 24 homers, 27 thefts, 79 RBI and 84 runs scored across 148 games this season, numbers that represent a bit of a down year for the 31-year-old.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Collects three hits

Ramirez went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Angels. Ramirez had been in a slump, going just 3-for-26 over his previous seven games. His power's also been down lately -- the third baseman hasn't hit a home run since Aug. 27, a span of 10 contests. For the season, he's at a .273/.347/.474 slash line with 21 homers, 33 doubles, 72 RBI, 78 runs scored and 22 stolen bases through 135 games. While Ramirez has been a little quiet, the dry spell isn't going to jeopardize his near-everyday role in the lineup as the Guardians try to catch the Twins in the AL Central.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Socks homer No. 20

Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Blue Jays. He opened the scoring in the top of the first inning by crushing a Hyun Jin Ryu fastball deep to left field, but it was the last lead the Guardians would have on the afternoon. Since returning from his two-game suspension, Ramirez is slashing a tepid .233/.298/.442 over 11 contests, but his two homers during that stretch have gotten him to 20 on the year -- the third straight season, and the sixth time in his career, he's reached that mark.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Shines in Wednesday's game

Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two stolen bases in a 6-1 loss to the Dodgers in Wednesday's suspended game. Ramirez was about the only bright spot for the Guardians in the contest, which was suspended due to rain after two innings Wednesday before finishing Thursday. The third baseman then went 0-for-4 with a walk in the nightcap, ending the day at a .278/.350/.472 slash line through 122 contests overall. He's up to 19 home runs, 18 steals, 68 RBI and 72 runs scored, and he's gone 8-for-36 (.222) over nine games since returning from a suspension stemming from an incident versus the White Sox earlier in the month.

He'll miss both weekend contests against the Rays but will be available when the Guardians head to Cincinnati on Tuesday.

The third baseman has a .283/.356/.487 slash line with 18 home runs, 65 RBI and 67 runs scored through 112 contests. His appeal of a three-game suspension stemming from an incident Saturday versus the White Sox is still pending.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Gets three-game ban, will appeal

Ramirez received a three-game suspension Monday for his role in an on-field brawl that occurred in Saturday's game against the White Sox, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. He's appealing the suspension and will start at third base and bat third in Monday's game against the Blue Jays, according to Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Major League Baseball issued suspensions for three players for their roles in the brawl, with Ramirez and Chicago's Tim Anderson (six games) getting bans for throwing punches, while Cleveland reliever Emmanuel Clase drew a one-game ban. It's unclear when Ramirez's appeal will be heard or if he'll drop the appeal at any point, so the 30-year-old could still be at risk of missing time during the Guardians' seven-game week.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Swipes two bags Sunday

Ramirez went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the White Sox. Ramirez is now 16-for-20 on stolen-base attempts this season, with six steals coming in his last 16 games. The 30-year-old third-baseman has swung the bat well recently, boosting his slash line to .289/.361/.500 with 18 home runs, 67 runs scored and 65 RBI through 479 plate appearances this season. Though Ramirez is a must-start player even when he's in the midst of a slump, fantasy managers will have to keep close tabs on his status ahead of the Guardians' series opener with the Blue Jays on Monday. In Saturday's loss to the White Sox, Ramirez was ejected for exchanging punches with shortstop Tim Anderson, and both players seem likely to face suspensions as a result of the incident. Major League Baseball is expected to levy punishment at some point Monday.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Homers twice Sunday

Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two homers, a walk and three RBI in Sunday's win over the White Sox. Ramirez went deep in the fifth and seven innings to stretch the Guardians' lead to 5-0. It's his second time in the last week he's had multiple home runs in a game, and he's also recorded three multi-hit efforts in his last five games. Ramirez hasn't struck out more than once in a game since July 16 and is one of three players who are currently striking out less than 10 percent of the time. The 30-year-old is enjoying another productive campaign, as he's slashing .292/.361/.510 with 18 homers, 63 RBI, 67 runs and a 46:45 BB:K over 457 plate appearances.
