  • Rangers' Marcus Semien: Hitting well this spring

Semien went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Friday's spring game against the Athletics. Semien is batting .320 (8-for-25) with six runs scored over nine Cactus League contests. He fell off in all the major hitting categories in 2022, his first year with the Rangers, and he needs to bounce back in 2023 to justify the seven-year, $175 million investment Texas has in him.

  • Rangers' Marcus Semien: Swipes bag No. 25

Semien went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees. After going 0-for-5 in the matinee, Semien got the Rangers on the board in the bottom of the first inning of the nightcap, coming home on an Adolis Garcia single after stealing his 25th base of the year. Semien's prior career high in that category was only 15, but his power numbers took a major step backward from his massive 2021 performance with Toronto. With another six years and $150 million left on his contract with Texas, he'll get plenty of chances to try and put it all together.

Semien went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in Thursday's 10-9 extra-innings loss to the Mariners. Semien accounted for two of the Rangers' five homers in the game, and he was one of three players across both teams to leave the yard twice. The infielder hit a two-run blast in the third inning, a solo shot in the seventh and a sacrifice fly in the 11th to account for his four RBI. He's up to 26 homers, 82 RBI, 99 runs scored, 24 stolen bases and a .255/.311/.444 slash line through 154 contests. Semien has hit safely in five straight games, going 7-for-20 with three homers in that span.

The second baseman has posted consecutive three-hit games, raising his slash line to .248/.305/.428 with 22 home runs, 72 RBI, 89 runs scored, 24 stolen bases and 28 doubles through 141 games.

  • Rangers' Marcus Semien: Goes deep in nightcap

Semien went 3-for-4 with a triple, a two-run home run and an additional run and RBI in a 10-6 loss to the Marlins in the second game of Monday's doubleheader. Semien gave the Rangers a brief 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning with his 22nd homer, but Texas relievers gave it all back and then some in the bottom of the frame. The second baseman endured a rough couple of months to start his career in Texas (.524 OPS through June 1), but Semien has an .825 OPS over 92 games since June 2, bashing 21 of his 22 home runs since then.

  • Rangers' Marcus Semien: Provides late offense

Semien went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Red Sox. The Rangers were held in check through seven innings, before Semien's two-run blast in the eighth brought life to the team. Nathaniel Lowe homered two batters later, and Texas loaded the bases in the ninth but couldn't finish the comeback. The homer extended Semien's hitting streak to seven games (11-for-29, .379), and he has posted a .345/.383/.618 line with eight extra-base hits, nine RBI and 14 runs in 13 contests over the last two weeks.

  • Rangers' Marcus Semien: Joins 20-20 club

Semien went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to Houston. Semien's steal was his 20th and placed him in the 20-20 club (20 home runs, 20 steals) for the first time of his career. He joins outfielder Adolis Garcia as the second Rangers this year to achieve that feat. Semien topped his previous career high in steals (15 in 2021) earlier this season, which is due in part to the Rangers' philosophy of aggressiveness on the base paths, a benefit he talked about with Kennedi Landry of MLB.com in June.

  • Rangers' Marcus Semien: Homers and triples in loss

Semien went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI triple and an additional run in a 7-6 loss to the Rockies on Tuesday. Semien has struggled to hit for average and reach base recently, as evidenced by his .211 average and .267 on-base percentage in August. However, Semien has shown some pop and now has six home runs this month, pushing his season total to 20. However, his overall production is down dramatically from his career-best 2021, as he's still sporting a middling .236/.295/.411 slash line.

  • Rangers' Marcus Semien: Homers, swipes 17th bag

Semien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in a 6-2 loss to the Mariners on Sunday. After not hitting his first home run of the year until May 28, Semien is looking much more like his usual self. The veteran right-handed bat now has five home runs in July to give him 13 on the season. He also easily stole second off Chris Flexen in the bottom of the first for his 17th stolen base of the year. The number marks a new career-high. If Semien can continue to play the way he has in June and July, then he should be in line for another high-powered second half to complement his new propensity for steals.

Semien went 0-for-3 with a walk, a run and two stolen bases in a 5-2 win against Oakland on Wednesday. He has a team-leading and career-high 16 steals on the campaign, but this was the first time he's picked up more than one in a game. Semien is one of only six major-leaguers with at least 10 homers and at least 15 steals so far this season.
